*** The official HTC One S thread ***

Just read that the one X will be getting zoe! So hopefully the one S will be as well since both have the same camera hardware! (definitely not limited by the chipset since the S4 is actually better than tegra 3 :p)

Well it's only taken me a year and after iPhone 4,iphone 4s,samsung s3 (twice), RAZR I, HTC one s, nexus 4,xperia t, HTC one X I have finally found my perfect phone

The extra res on the screen is very noticeable compared to my mates one s

The finish and build and weight are absolutely perfect

Camera is the same as the one s, one X so very good and I love the extras HTC adds

Sense is just so much nicer than touch wiz and I prefer the extras HTC do over stock android

Battery is loads better than the one X and I would say on par if not slightly better than the one s

For the 200 I paid I am over the moon and finally found a phone I am happy with

The screen is gorgeous and you get that lovely floaty look

Sound either using stock player. Power amp or Google music is excellent

This was one of my problems with most of my phones on my list apart from the one s one X and iPhone 4

This is probably the best phone I have had for radio signal at home I have a very poor reception but this phone is normally at 3 bars where as all the others wouldn't even get a signal let alone 1 bar

Glad to hear that you are loving the device emu  Amazing price for an epic phone too!

HTC were incredibly stupid to have used tegra 3 over the S4 chipset for their international flagship, all because of "quad" marketing and being cheaper too probably......

Richy will be glad to hear about the signal! :D :p

No matter - I've found Emu's post. Might be worth a look. Where did you buy it Emu - auction site? I did like the One X just the signal issues were to depressing. Funnily I had chance of a Razr HD last week. Much debate was had with myself. Now Emu throws a hand grenade in:rolleyes:

yes it came from ebay

the other phone i completely forgot about was the htc one x+

would have picked one of those up if i could have found it cheap enough

Don't base too much on reviews "battery benchmarks" richy, they never have any real world relevance i.e. the one X does pretty damn good, in fact better than the one S (and iirc even compared to the GS 3) in their benchmarks, however, in real world usage the one X is pretty poor where as the one S is very good.

From reading user opinions, the one XL looks to be just a bit better than the S.

Reviews are very subjective. I watched one on ebay yesterday make £195. Doesn't seem a lot for quite a bit of phone. Can't believe they only gave it 16gb of storage and of course you don't get access to it all. I don't think I'm really in the market for a new phone yet. Nothing really takes my fancy :D Motorola might come up with something in the next 6 months though not really holding my breath. I am interested to see what the HTC M4 might be like.

still only few days in of usage

on monday evening i charged it fully, stuck it in airplane mode overnight and by yesterday evening i had 10 % left

i caned the battery playing csr racing and candy crush yesterday at work and then played music for an hour when i got in

i think i could easily see out the day

to me the phone is just a bigger one s with a better screen , which in my opinion is a very good thing :-)

i would like to have a screen on time in the battery usage

also in my battery graph the network signal is just a constant line , where as my other phones it was dotted all over the place

didnt the htc one x+ have 64gb of storage and a bigger battery?

if i could find one cheap enough i would probably try to get one of them

Indeed! Superb price for a phone that still holds it own very well compared to the current flagships.

Likewise for now..... :p

Have a feeling that I will be holding onto the S till next year!

Yup but it still has crappy tegra 3 :p Also has a better front camera too.

IIRC, the battery life is pretty similar to the one XL, maybe a bit worse when it comes to heavier usage.

I'll admit I did give the One XL a thought after Emu's report on signal. Personally though I'd have preferred 32gigs and a bigger battery. That said when I used the One X it wasn't that often I had to do a top up charge to get through the day. Though the X screen is nice I personally prefer the SAMOLED of Razr i and One S (One S is SAMOLED isn't it?).

Well, I say I gave it a thought but certainly don't need to swap my phone as the Razr i does the job very well without any problems. The occasional not charging issue may be rectified with a reset of the phone which I've not got done. Short term a reboot sorts it.

It would also have signal issues for Emu going on the list of phones he's gone through. Don't think there was any improvement in the radio department when upgraded from the X?

like ive had my s2 for nearly 2 years! it just works and takes the beating and i find it hard to replace :/ nothing tempts me..

@Richy

Yup, one S is SAMOLED and a superb display panel regardless of what most of the reviews say! Still can't get over the way a lot of them really slated the display, I was seriously expecting the display to be terrible going by what they said, yes it wasn't as sharp as the GS 3 nor the one X (also preferred the one S screen to the one x screen) but everything else about it is very good and in some areas better than the GS 3 panel.

What Brian from anandtech (top reviewer of all the major phones for that site) recently wrote about the one screen:

Display was awesome I thought, the One S was objectively the best tuned SAMOLED to date, better than Samsung (their panel too)

Kind of reminds me of the one camera situation currently, most reviews look at the one camera and then try to zoom/crop in and of course the results are terrible and the bright landscape conditions aren't as good as the GS 4 etc. and therefore pretty much think the camera is crap purely because of those 2 things.....

Hopefully HTC will use the new SAMOLED panel for the mini.....

Haven't seen a razr i myself, but iirc someone here (think it was emu) said it looked really well calibrated and had great whites.

Yeah, it would most likely have been the same as the original X, although I don't understand why he finds the XL signal better than the X as I would have thought that both used the same antenna etc. perhaps it is related to the chipset and driver/software optimisation as the chipset plays a crucial part in more areas than just the CPU, GPU.

the GS 2 was way ahead of its time and still holds it own very well today, I also would have a bit of a hard time justifying upgrading it too especially when it will be getting the new version of touchwiz iirc.

Whilst the newest handsets are nice upgrades "overall", they just aren't £450+ better imo.

Generally it is always best to skip a gen or two for every hardware equipment these days.
