*** The official HTC One S thread ***

shame the camera is so pants on the n4 really

i did like everything else apart from the camera, glass back was a bit stupid

but the software side of things was very good

Yeah that is the only "main" thing that is stopping me from going to the n4 :( Everything else is great, would miss sense but I could fix most problems by rooting and flashing custom etc.

Such a shame if the above turns out to be true and chances are it will.... since that guy has been pretty much spot on about everything else so far........ love HTC devices and really love the one S but this just takes the ****, no reason, hardware is more or less the same as XL and the device isn't "old", only just over a year old now.....

From now on, I am not going to worry about support from the companies when it comes to android devices as they are all ****, will just have to go back to rooting etc., it is the only way you get good, quick etc. support and this is from people who do this in their free time lol.......... only Samsung and nexus devices for me now :(

Samsung aren't much better either :p Especially if it isn't a flagship.

Rooting & Romming is the way to go on any phone older than a year to be honest. You'll never get decent updates like the Nexus devices on anything but.

I know :( Samsung are even worse when it comes to non flagship devices

It seems these days if you want good long term "official" support, you only have the choice of Samsung and HTC's flagship devices.

Reason I put Samsung is because of the rooting and flashing i.e. being easier and better choice of ROMs etc. compared to HTC devices.

It seems like that is the only way to go with android phones :( Shame as I really don't want to faff about with that again but it looks like I/we have no choice unless we are content with being on old firmware.......

I know what you are saying there :(

I am already on the verge of rooting the One I have just so I can get the newest firmware. I have to say out of anything that is what I will miss the most from my N4.

What makes HTC phones harder to root compared to Samsung ones? Haven't looked into doing the One yet & never owned a HTC before.

Those pictures you posted earlier look fab by the way :)

Haven't rooted etc. a HTC device either :p So someone else who has experience with both will give a better answer :p

But.....

That seems to be the general consensus around here and on XDA etc.

From the guides that I have read for the S, desire etc., the whole process just looks a bit more complicated and more steps involved etc. From what I remember with my spica and other Samsung phones, you really only had to use odin to flash a firmware version from sammobile, which involves just loading like 3 files in to the correct boxes and hitting start and then the same with the root file/flash and that was it. Done in like 5-10 minutes (if first time doing it then it took longer! :p :o)

With HTC devices, you have to unlock the boot loader first and iirc someone said that you have to relock it after flashing a ROM and unlock it before flashing a new firmware/ROM.

Saying that, it might be easier than it actually looks as before I rooted my spica, it looked just as complicated but once done, wow was it easy! :p Plus supposedly the HTC one is a bit easier now......

Thanks :) Got to love lightroom, just finished watching & reading a few more guides so have edited some even further with a nice little touch imo! :D

Going to give HTC till the end of June to give some form of an update on what is happening, if nothing is mentioned or it is confirmed that the S isn't getting V5 then going to root my phone with this guide:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1604677

And just flash a sense V5 based ROM like this:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2298253

Hopefully everything will be working by then though.........

Such a shame that is the only way android users can get "proper" support :o :(

I've never been much of an android fan myself but the Wife has bought an HTC One S home for the weekend for me to play with and I'm really impressed with it.

I'm seriously considering picking one up secondhand and giving her my iPhone 5!

Move away from the dark side and into the light! :D :p

Just be warned though, it might not be receiving sense V5 and if it does, there might be quite a bit of a wait. But apart from that, it is excellent and still holds it own very well compared to the current flagships.

Also, if you do decide to get one, make sure you get the S4 chipset (CPU speed of 1.5GHz) as opposed to the inferior powered one (s3 chipset with a speed of 1.7GHz)

Don't do it it looks horrible

hehe :D

I am not fussed on the normal grey version but sarge's version looks so good :p

Plus my wee nicks would be gone then :D

Thanks for the info dude, much appreciated. I know absolutely nothing about android whatsoever… too much time in the dark :D
