*** The official HTC One S thread ***

I can't say I'm surprised, but I'm really hacked off! If I'd have got 4.2.2 on my HOS then I could see me sticking with it for another year or so. Its a very capable phone and does everything I need. Now I'm quite tempted by a nexus which is stupid- because in my mind it is technically an inferior phone!

I personally don't care about android 4.2.2 itself as it brings nothing ground breaking or of use to me, badly wanted sense V5 though, it is more the principle of it!

I was expecting the one S to get some form of an update i.e. not the full sense 5 features etc. but to completely abandon it, is a bit shocking.

Funny thing is that we are still stuck on 4.1.1 as well, not 4.1.2

If the N4 had a better camera, I would have swapped to one months ago :(

HTC are broke, they can't afford it :D

Anyway they've never fully supported products past a year, the HOS was never going to be any different. We all made our purchase knowing that right? (It's a shame we won't be getting Sense 5 though)

Yeah, bring on a proper Nexus with great camera! (Or a decent subsidised Amazon phone, most of my apps come from them these days anyway :p)

@Nexus I understand your frustration and anger. For HTC to ditch a perfectly capable phone which has had only one update firmware wise is extremely poor. No wonder users posting on various tech sites are slating HTC and quite rightly so. I would think twice getting a HTC phone, with their shoddy QC, poor customer service and now weak shoddy update cycle I'd give HTC a wide birth.

I very much doubt that HTC will change their minds, they don't seem in tune with their loyal consumers, after all they're very quick to throw them to the lions by bringing out an updated phone only months after releasing a flagship device (Sensation and HOX) are prime examples there.

Interesting news re the X phone - that could be the ideal replacement for your HOS?

4.2.2 isn't exactly ground breaking anyway and it doesn't blow my socks off having used it on my Nexus 4. It's what OEM's bring to the table in terms of the extra features which adds value to Android.

I recall switching from my S2 to the Galaxy Nexus at the time and took for granted all the extras that Samsung had baked into the ROM and was mortified to find that the latest version of Android was extremely basic.

Unfortunately rooting and flashing ROMs is a massive culture in Android and that's what people do almost as a given. I haven't had one Android phone which I haven't flashed a custom ROM and rooted, it's the way it goes. People jailbreak their iphones to get extra features and install apps that normally Apple has prohibited, but it's not as prevalent as it is on Android.

Wow that seems unfortunate. Seems like a silly decision by HTC there. Screwing over loyal customers isn't the best move...

They are really getting slated in comment sections of tech sites though, typical stupid HTC move. Their own worst enemy they are.

Absolutely crazy decision by HTC and yes it serves HTC right for all the abuse they're getting and they wonder why they can't compete with the likes of Samsung. They might take their time but at least Samsung update their older phones (S2) to a version of Android which has seen a few cycle upgrades in it's time. My friend's S2 on Three has seen an update from ICS to JB. I don't see if Samsung can spend time and money on updates for its older phones then why can't HTC follow suit?

Dude, is it wise just to move to a technically inferior phone just for the latest version of Android? The HOS IMO is the better phone, 4.2.2. isn't that great. Hell I've even rooted and flashed a custom ROM on my Nexus 4 just to make the experience better.

Have to wait and see about the motorola phone(s), don't read too much into all of these articles ;)

But if it is just running stock android then I might not be so tempted.....

Just have to wait and see what reviews are like!

I just can not be assed with rooting and flashing stuff these days, don't want to waste time trying various things out only to encounter annoying niggles, not knowing if it is the ROM's/tweak fault or an apps fault etc. thus having to re flash, wipe stuff etc. One of the reasons why I love the one S so much as everything just works out of the box and it is extremely stable i.e. you don't get slow downs, battery drain (only had a couple of problems with this in the past), no force closes etc.

But unfortunately, I will have to root the one S once sense V5 rom is fully working as I badly want it and don't want to be left behind on out dated software! :(

This is the exact reason I'll never leave the Nexus range of phones; the One S isn't even that old of a device, hasn't the Galaxy SII also got official 4.1.2 firmware too?

Once Google improve the stock Android post image processing and camera hardware (OIS and low light performance), there will be no denying the attraction of Nexus devices.

does anyone know about this RUU and s off stuff?

I was having troubles with mine so i flashed the RUU and its back to default then i rooted it......But have been told to change the cid and all sorts of scary stuff,..

All i know is how to flash a custom rom

Going to spend the next few days reading and watching root etc. guides again.

BTW, if you have twitter etc. send them a tweet telling them how disappointed you are etc. and also sign this, probably not do anything at all but worth a try!

Also, would be great even if the non-one s owners could sign the petition etc. the more people the better! :) Don't have to lie by saying you have the one s, just tell them that this decision has put you of getting a HTC one etc.

I am hoping that google are well aware of what has happened and will have words with HTC....... :(

It is purely the principle of it for me (as we all know, we can get sense v5 etc. easily):

- zero support after 7-8months! (I have received a total of 3-4 updates and only two of them have been "big" updates)
- not even stuck on the newest ICS update = 4.1.2
- HTC said as soon as sense V5 came out with the HTC one that the ONE S, one x, xl etc. WOULD receive the sense V5 update
- no good/reasonable excuse at all for leaving it behind especially when the one XL is the exact same phone except for screen res.!

Your never going to find your next phone are you Nexus :p?

At this rate Sony may look like the better of the big three when it comes to updates.......a shudder when I typed that.

Dick move by HTC...I am still contract locked until next year (!), so rooting is an option. One thing for sure is that HTC will not be the next phone I look at, so well done, you just cost yourself a customer :/

you know how many times i've heard this from random people? about samsung, htc, sony etc... yet they still buy a phone that suits them the most when they need it.. ;)

I don't know yet, no one phone suits my needs :o :(

android - fragmentation problems except for nexus devices but they always lack in one area and stock android is just so plain especially in the camera area :( (it isn't just because a lot of phones don't get the updates but also the time frame, such a joke that most phones are still not updated to 4.2.2). Sense skin is more or less perfect for me out of the box.

windows - lack of customisation, lack of apps

iOS - lack of customisation, really like the look of iOS7

I quite like the windows lumia phones, hardware is great (for windows), decent design, superb camera etc. but the lack of apps is the big deal breaker.

Wish google or/and samsung/HTC would confirm what is happening about the GPE one and GS 4 i.e. is there a contract between them stating that they MUST release every update for as long as possible and within a timely manner etc.

You would think that HTC would have learnt by now after the mess with the desire and 2.3, sensation and 4.1, desire hd etc. Especially when they badly need to do well this year.....

Will post this again! Sign this petition even if you don't have a one S and please see if friends etc. will too :)
