Nexus I understand your frustration and anger. For HTC to ditch a perfectly capable phone which has had only one update firmware wise is extremely poor. No wonder users posting on various tech sites are slating HTC and quite rightly so. I would think twice getting a HTC phone, with their shoddy QC, poor customer service and now weak shoddy update cycle I'd give HTC a wide birth.
I very much doubt that HTC will change their minds, they don't seem in tune with their loyal consumers, after all they're very quick to throw them to the lions by bringing out an updated phone only months after releasing a flagship device (Sensation and HOX) are prime examples there.
Interesting news re the X phone - that could be the ideal replacement for your HOS?
4.2.2 isn't exactly ground breaking anyway and it doesn't blow my socks off having used it on my Nexus 4. It's what OEM's bring to the table in terms of the extra features which adds value to Android.
I recall switching from my S2 to the Galaxy Nexus at the time and took for granted all the extras that Samsung had baked into the ROM and was mortified to find that the latest version of Android was extremely basic.
Unfortunately rooting and flashing ROMs is a massive culture in Android and that's what people do almost as a given. I haven't had one Android phone which I haven't flashed a custom ROM and rooted, it's the way it goes. People jailbreak their iphones to get extra features and install apps that normally Apple has prohibited, but it's not as prevalent as it is on Android.
Wow that seems unfortunate. Seems like a silly decision by HTC there. Screwing over loyal customers isn't the best move...
They are really getting slated in comment sections of tech sites though, typical stupid HTC move. Their own worst enemy they are.
Absolutely crazy decision by HTC and yes it serves HTC right for all the abuse they're getting and they wonder why they can't compete with the likes of Samsung. They might take their time but at least Samsung update their older phones (S2) to a version of Android which has seen a few cycle upgrades in it's time. My friend's S2 on Three has seen an update from ICS to JB. I don't see if Samsung can spend time and money on updates for its older phones then why can't HTC follow suit?
I can't say I'm surprised, but I'm really hacked off! If I'd have got 4.2.2 on my HOS then I could see me sticking with it for another year or so. Its a very capable phone and does everything I need. Now I'm quite tempted by a nexus which is stupid- because in my mind it is technically an inferior phone!
Dude, is it wise just to move to a technically inferior phone just for the latest version of Android? The HOS IMO is the better phone, 4.2.2. isn't that great. Hell I've even rooted and flashed a custom ROM on my Nexus 4 just to make the experience better.
