*** The official HTC One S thread ***

Anybody willing to comment on screen quality between the One S and the Desire AMOLED?

On XDA people are saying that the screen in terms of colours, sharpness etc. is better on the one S than the galaxy S SAMOLED (some say better than the S2 in terms of colours as well, along with the sharper display obviously :p) and better than the desire AMOLED :)

If I get the S within the next week, I will be able to compare it to a desire AMOLED.

The SAMOLED screen in the HTC is more than likely made by Samsung - and probably identical to the one in the RAZR.

The OG Desire's AMOLED screen is OLD AMOLED tech and looks very dated now - very noticeable.

The screen in the One S should be compared to the Nexus and SGS2. The One S's pentile matrix means its probable very similar in sharpness to the lower res RGB panel in the SGS2.

SAMOLED+ HD (i.e. 720p RGB) will be the masterpiece.

3hrs screen on time at 80% brightness and still 42% battery left - sounds extraordinary.

Yep very impressive, you'd have carte blanche with a 10-12Whr battery :D
Wonder how it compares to a standard GSM Razr? My Arc usually runs out of juice before the 3 hour mark. 5 or 6 hours with a 4.3 incher would be a welcome upgrade.

Actually the sAMOLED seemed much better and less saturated compared to the Razr when I tried it, fairly decent whites too but obviously the same grainy text. This is defiantly my no.1 fall back if nothing else gets released before the summer. :)

Yeah, some reviews have stated that it is similar to the RAZR (never used a RAZR personally so can't comment) and it is most likely by Samsung, however, tweaks have been made from what I have read, seems lower power consumption (and judging by Raikiri's usage with 80% brightness that does indeed seem to be true :p), better in sunlight etc.

Quite a few people (including myself, I had the GS 2 and S side by side and I found the S screen a good bit sharper and a bit better in web browsing, not as much of a difference now between the GN, X and the GS 2 :p) think the S screen is better in terms of colours, sharpness and just more quality over the GS 2 screen. I really did find the GS 2 screen very "dated" looking compared to the one S :(

I think I posted an article from GSMarena (in the X thread somewhere) that stated the above about tweaks being made to the one S screen and had a comparison pic to the other screen types including a pentile SAMOLED one (the Galaxy s).

I really like the look, feel and design of the One S - I prefer it to the One X I think - feels nicer in the hand - One X screen is awesome though - but I can't go back to LCD - I love a good OLED screen.

Will try and get my sis to upgrade to this come end of May.

It appears that "mirco arc oxidation failure" is pretty wide spread :(

And as someone said, if the phone ends up looking like this after a few days (baring in mind that these people have said that the mobile has been taken care of very well, not in the same pockets as keys etc.), imagine what it will be like in a few months time:

So choices are either:

- get the grey model
- just buy a case

I actually kind of prefer the S overall to the X TBH

- felt quicker/smoother for general usage
- much better battery life
- better/newer components and as someone on XDA said it should be easier for the developers to work with qualcomm than tegra and thus the S will get ROMs that work without many bugs sooner
- feels better in the hand
- blacks are black :p

The only thing, which I really love about the X is the screen and the better camera and not to mention the difference in price between the 2 (contract) isn't worth it IMO :p

I'll have a good go with one on Friday when I go and get my One X.

I really can't see myself preferring the One S though. HTC have been smart releasing two similar yet fairly different devices. It's better than going for a single device approach like Apple and (probably) Samsung.

my one S (from three) is waiting for me at home... bit worried about the paintwork though, almost tempted to take it to the three store and see if they'll switch it for a grey one... but then maybe I'll just keep it :s

Yup it certainly is!

I think you aren't going to like the screen one bit at all since you have the GN, 4s, x to compare it to :p But when the screen is by itself, I think it looks perfectly fine.

I really do think I am more tempted by this more than the one X.

The only problem is I'm a gadget geek and like having the BEST of stuff, but really I think this looks better and 4.3" is pretty big for a phone anyway. The screen to me considering my last decent phone was a Desire.

The biggest thing for me is the battery life, and by the looks of it this is awesome and beats every smartphone on the market for that department.

It's also cheapr.

Nice! They seemed to like audio fidelity, no battery results yet though...

This is a bit worrying.
The display coating is quite reflective and the brightness isn't enough to overcome this on bright sunny days.
Are HTC still skimping on polarizer layers? The 4.3" sAMOLED+ with Nokia clearblack only needs 200Nits for amazing outdoor readability (a big battery life saving)
How does outdoor usability compare to the iP4 Raikiri?

I am sold on the S now! :D Hopefully will have mine within the next week, just need to decide, grey or black now :p

I honestly think that the S is better than the X when you look at the overall picture.

I don't. :p

I think you are trying a bit too hard to sell it to yourself!
