*** The official HTC One S thread ***

Has anyones HTC One S managed to NOT chip?

I got a replacement one from Carphone Warehouse just over a week ago which looks like it's one of the new designs with a smoother edges and the beveled usb port (s/n starting sh26r) but I've got a chip on the usb port and another small chip on the side., haven't dropped it either.

Mine is still in good condition (had it since April), only area that I have chipping is on the USB port edges. I have the old design. My phone has been in a case for the majority of the time though, before I got the diztronic, it only ever had a case on when I was going out somewhere and no case on when back home.

Stoosh also has one where it hasn't chipped at all, he went through 3 or 4 S devices to get a good one (his current one is also the old design iirc)

I guess I could wait for the iphone 5 ;)

Could do :)

But from all the latest leaks, it doesn't look like it is going to be anything special regarding the design (again) :p

And loads of other websites showing similar stuff :(

I am hoping that those aren't true though!

Although the display should be the best there is (as long as they have the 4" screen, it should do), latest rumour, is that it apparently is the thinnest & lightest screen ever

Another factor for me whilst I remember is - the iPhone 4s has infinitely better signal than the GS3 at home. o2 network signal isn't the best here but its excellent everywhere else I travel so I don't really want to switch networks!

The original sensation if I held it like a phone would lose signal at home.

My sensation would get no signal at home whatsoever!

Don't get the One S! It has the same problem as the Sensation, you won't get a signal at home.

I guess I could wait for the iphone 5 ;)

Good idea, hopefully we'll get a nice 4.3" Nexus later in the year too (in my dreams :D)

Just a small one chip at the top ...but it doesn't concern me in the slightest.

Sarge I don't have the signal drop issue if I hold my phone normally. Can only manage to get it to drop (and even still it doesn't cut out completely) if I fully grip the top of the handset with my entire hand.

Both Nexus18 and I haven't suffered from the chipping problem on our respective HOS and we've had them for quite a while.

It's a shame if the chipping problem also is evident on the new designed HOS, I really hope it isn't the case.

I haven't had the signal drop issue either and I hold the phone as normal

Yeah, I don't think you would have any better luck with the S if the GS 3 had 17% of the time without signal :(

You could be lucky and not experience any problems though....

Let's hope that HTC will fix the signal issue soon!

Yup, I do around the USB port :p

Although I am not careful when plugging/pulling the cable out so :p :o

Not too bothered about that area as I never see it, but it is rather annoying that it happens anyway.

Just glad that I don't have it on the other usual spot, the top edge and sides, that would really **** me off :(

Using a case largely due to that issue as Robbo said, but also largely due to how the mobile would look/dent if dropped on concrete and to give some protection overall.

EDIT:

It is only chipping on the inside part of the USB port and edges, not the outside surrounding area.

Top tip! A good black permanent marker pen will cover up any chipping :)
Fingerprints and dust stand out more than the chips anyway, it's a "Tom_D" issue ;):p

The One S attenuates badly, you only need to touch the bottom left corner to reduce signal quality. It effects everyone, the variability is in how strong of a signal you have to begin with.
I think people in low coverage areas are better off with a plastic body phone that has the antenna located in fairly thick (~10mm) section. That's my theory anyway :D

Aye I worked that out to be almost ten hours! Let me know if your signal does get fixed with an update?! I'm guessing though, by the time they do fix it, they won't have the fabled S4 cpu that everyone wants?

I wouldn't classify that as chipping Mate, I also have that same thing that you describe but nothing around the outside or the edges.

I had to swap out 4 phones before I got the HOS now that hasn't chipped. HTC state that not all HOS suffer from the chipping issue but its all down to luck.

@Robbo Ah yes so he did! I really should stop scan reading just to catch up with the thread LOL!

That is my only complaint with the ceramic back, fingerprints and sweat patches!!!!

I just tried that and funnily enough, my signal went up a tiny bit :p :D

Dropped a wee bit after a second though, throughout that test after the raise and drop I tried gripping everywhere, however, it didn't fluctuate at all until near the end as I took the SS (then went back up after that :p)

Last time I did that test and posted a screenshot, it was no where as consistent........

Quite surprising as today it is pretty cloudy here and raining.

The signal should be much stronger for me though and I think I should be getting better speeds/ping, unfortunately I can't test that out on another mobile as all the other mobiles are locked to 3 :(

With you on that theory as well :)

My signal is pretty much fine (as in it doesn't cut out at all or drop to stupid low levels), so I may not notice much of a difference if/when it does get released, although I think it should be more consistent (as in pretty much 4-5 bars all the time instead of one day being 2-3 bars then later on or on another day 4-5 bars) and better mobile data speeds/ping.

Will let you know though, if I do notice any changes :)

Although not holding my breath for an update any time soon as it has been awfully quite lately concerning updates, not just for the S but also the X, hoping this is a good sign though and that HTC are working hard on jellybean and fixes/improvements......... :p

That's it...my time with the One S has sadly come to an abrupt end. Due to unforeseen circumstances which needed extra cash I've had to part with with my beloved One S. :(

It was a choice between the One S and Galaxy S3 and the latter won out.

I'll be sad to see the phone go as it really is an amazing phone and has so much going for it.

All you peeps out there with the One S (S4) version enjoy using the best 4.3 inch phone out there
