*** The official HTC One S thread ***

Can people please test their GPS using GPS Status app and let me know how accurate their GPS is (error (ft)) and how many satellites they lock onto out of how many are available?

The Anandtech review! About time :D http://www.anandtech.com/show/5868/htc-one-s-review-international-and-tmobile

Couldn't agree more! A 60-65mm wide 16:9 phone hits the sweet spot of screen size, portability and usability.

Very in-depth review!

Just had a quick skim through it (will read it thoroughly later), seems pretty good, the display section was very interesting to read!

Agree with them about the in hand feel, it's just a shame some people (Nexus!!) use a case. :(

:p

I really do hate using a case on the S :( Any other mobile couldn't care less really. But don't want to risk it and end up accidentally dropping it and getting a nasty looking dent etc.

Can people please test their GPS using GPS Status app and let me know how accurate their GPS is (error (ft)) and how many satellites they lock onto out of how many are available?

Will give it a shot now :)

Ok, just done a quick test (indoors), however, it is very cloudy here, being ****ing it down for most of the day, got to love the UK :( :p

To give you an idea:

And now the test:

This was left for about 15-20 secs:

Will repeat this test again when the sky is clear to see what the outcome is like then.

Indoors by a window

Just went over to my bro's to cut down his Virgin sim - much better GSM signal now and good HSPA. Before it would only get a very weak 1-2 bar in the back room (no signal elsewhere) - and G speeds.

HOS has GLONASS :p

acronym for Globalnaya Navigatsionnaya Sputnikovaya Sistema or Global Navigation Satellite System, is a radio-based satellite navigation system operated for the Russian government by the Russian Aerospace Defence Forces. It both complements and provides an alternative to the United States' Global Positioning System (GPS) and is currently the only alternative navigational system in operation with global coverage and of comparable precision.

Taken from anandtech review:

I’m starting to sound like a broken record, but just like the One X (AT&T) the One S uses the on-SoC baseband for GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System). In this case, that means GPS with GLONASS, specifically Qualcomm’s gpsOneGen 8A with GLONASS. I have no problems getting a fast lock even indoors or in an urban environment, and like other combos with GLONASS you can see those satellites pop into use when GPS signal is weak.

I don't recall of it being mentioned either (and I have read pretty much every S review there is before I got mine :p :o)

I wasn't exactly sure what GLONASS was (until that explanation above by kona), just knew that it would be better than standard GPS :p :o

Both me and nexus are picking up over 20 sats, a phone without glonass would only see around 10ish. Technically all S2 snapdragon powered phones can use glonass too, depending on oem support.

We should get Galileo soon!!

Here's my old glonass accuracy comparison pic, it does make a difference :)

(ot: really like the ubuntu one android app, nice and simple)

I don't think there is an option for it (well nothing that I can see anyway :p), just your standard location settings:

Maybe you're in an area that isn't well covered? Is it the same for every where you go?
