***The Official HTC One Thread***

90% of the general phone related comments I see everywhere are very favourable towards HTC, and not overly impressed with Samsung...

Have Samsung blown it with the GS4?! It sounds like they're on the ropes, legs have gone... :p

Indeed! The majority who are siding with Samsung seems to be purely for the SD slot and removable battery i.e. at XDA, imagine if HTC had included a SD slot and had a removable battery like the china version :p

:D

Unfortunately they will still sell far more than the HTC one, Samsung have the upper hand when it comes to marketing/advertising, sales commission, brand presence etc. power, critical part of sales/popularity, whilst the GS 4 might not be impressing "us" as much as the one, the "average joes" will still go for the GS 4 even if the one suited them better.

As long as Samsung make a huge profit, I doubt that they will even give a toss about all the reviews, it is all about the money :( :p

They will need to change their attitude to the design and software UI next year though otherwise the reviews sites will really trash the GS 5.

Regardless of the reviews though, the GS 4 is an excellent phone overall, the reviewers simply "prefer" the one, largely for the design, build/perceived quality, speakers and slicker software/UI, much like last year, they preferred the GS 3 as it was the most "complete package" in comparison to the X and was better in quite a few areas at the beginning.

That hammer, knife, keys test video is interesting nexus, I can tell you for a cold fact it doesn't hold up great to a 3ft drop to pavement though. Not that it's totally ruined either but it does chip and scratch up the chamfering :(

I've now got it in a horribly cheap (but not too awful to look upon) ebay silicone white £2 special. I'd like to get something a bit more premium for it to reside within however.

Any recommendations people?

Yup, it will suffer much worse in the "real world" usage than these "lab tests"

Thought the hammer part was quite good though :p

Only case, I can think of is something like a nillkin super shield case, however, it won't protect the top and bottom of the phone. Unfortunately all the cases that cover every side/edge are your standard gel/rubber cases.

Yup :(

Design wise I'd much rather have the One, but the lack of memory pretty much rules it out for me. If only they'd put in the SD slot, or even bothered to sell the 64GB version over here!

Unable to contact location service.

Constantly. Driving me mad. Google maps works fine so why not the rest?

Having 'My Location' on the lock screen not where I actually am is just crap.

Its an Accuweather thing if I remember correctly when I had it in the past.

I think this can be caused by A-GPS getting in a tiz.....there are some GPS apps on the market, e.g. GPS Test, that allow A-GPS cache to be cleared.....can often be a fix

think I'm now leaning towards getting one of these for my upgrade instead of the Xperia Z, what's the best tariff people have found?

If you go to the home screen, click on the weather icon in the top right and then into settings, theres an option at the bottom to update my location in real time. Mine works fine

Some better deals out there, but that is pretty decent.

Have a look at mobiles.co.uk, dialaphone, buymobilephones and affordablemobiles.

On affordable mobiles, you have this deal:

T mobile
500 minutes
unlimited texts and data
24 months

£26 a month and £30 up front

But.......no stock :p

So I'm one of those special people that failed the mobiles.co.uk internal security check and I'm unable to ever place another order from them in the future - no explanation given either!

Do these idiots work for M15 or something?

Placed another order with chitter chatter - 31pcm, free phone, 1000 mins, unlimited data.

Let's hope their internal security isn't run by muppets too!
