***The Official HTC One Thread***

To be honest, after using the One for a few days, even though there are some apps that have the black bar (really BBC news? You already have a bloody menu button!), it doesn't really bother me that much. Then again, i'm coming from a 4" device, so I'm still getting a bigger size to view content with :p.

After using the One for a few days, I've fallen in love even more with it, I'm suprised how I'm enjoying some of the Sense 5.0 elements. There are a couple of things that bug me however:

1) Power saver notification, there's no way to remove this without root is there? :(.
2) Always going into USB debugging mode when plugging PC in when I have developer settings turned on. All I'm using it is for the force GPU 2D rendering option, which I feel makes some things smoother. Disabling USB debugging works for a while but then when I reboot the device...
3) Custom launcher sometimes appearing in Recent Apps, which makes me accidently swipe them away, making me go back to the Sense launcher.

Any other niggles I've had with the device, has been sorted with a couple of app downloads. Hopefully these things will be fixed over time with updates, the 4.2.2 ones looks pretty promising.

Spit which phone do you prefer. And how do the battery life's compare

I have had more time with the One than the S4 but after a full days usage I definitely prefer the One. Main reason is the One is best at the things I care about:

Design: The One just looks and feels better than the S4. The S4 feels a bit slimy!

Speakers: I listen to a lot of podcasts and the One makes them sound like the people are in the room. It really is quite incredible the difference. The S4 just sounds like all the other phones, a bit scratchy.

Speed: This one shocked me but the S4 stutters quite often. It might just be TouchWiz as I have not got round to installing Nova Launcher yet. The One is buttery smooth.

Screen: One hands down for me. I have excellent vision and I would say the One's screen looks near perfect. I immediately noticed the pentile effect on the S4 which shocked me. The colours, contrast and sharpness look great on the One. Don't get me wrong the S4 has an amazing screen but put them side by side and the One wins hands down.

Battery: Not had long enough yet but I came from a Note 2 so I had braced myself for the worst. Actually in reality its been fine. I am a power user and I have not run out of battery yet in a day on the One. The S4 seems just as good but I have not had much time.

Camera: The camera is faster on the One, seems to be instant where there is a slight delay on the S4. For me the One is the best trade off as I really do not need 13MPixel images from my phone, I have a proper camera for that. I mostly take quick shots to send via email or whatsapp so the One is great in that respect. I took the same scene in my back garden and the file was 1.2Mb on the One and 6.9Mb on the S4. I would not want to send a 6.9Mb image via email over the data connection.

Misc: Expandable storage is not an issue as 32Gb is plenty for me. The removable battery is also not an issue as I am never that far from a charger. The black bar at the bottom of some apps due to the 2 button setup is very annoying on the One.

Hope that helps but it is such a subjective thing. The One just feels a more thought out and professional device.

I hadn't realised that this thread had grown to quite so many pages, and it is going to take me a while to separate the wheat from the chaff, as it were.

I am very attracted to this particular phone though, which may well be my next upgrade, in a few months time! :)

Sorry if this has already been discussed, but I seem to be having issues with people hearing me on a call.

I've been told it sounds as though I'm distant or there's something covering the mic up - which there's not, it's not in a case.

Also, the in call sound seems odd, a little muffled?

Has anyone else experienced this?

Tried turning the speaker volume up? :p :D

I would get a replacement as most reviewers have reported the one to have excellent call quality.

If I turn the speaker up (full volume) it sounds as though its on loud speaker :s lol.

I think theres something wrong with it. I'm going to take it into the Orange shop at the weekend and test it compared to a demo one and see.

haha :D

Regardless of your end sounding a bit muffled and turning volume up etc., definitely get it checked out for the mic. alone, as people should be hearing you nice and clearly.

Check to see if there's anything clogging up the mic holes. The main important one to check is the bottom mic next to the USB port. The HTC flip case was covering mine and it took me a damn while to wonder why no one could hear me properly...

I have an HTC One X on 1 year contract which finishes next week. Is it worth getting an HTC One and selling the One X (should get about £200?) or will I not notice much difference between them?

Sorry but you won't see £200 for a pre owned One X closer to £120 - 140 but sell it anyway and get a One, amazing phone.
Fair enough, just had a quick look on the bay and reconditioned were going for £200 so I assumed.
Anyway, I've had a look and I can get a One for 12 months at a total cost of £615, or 18 months for a total of £500. Minus the sale of the One X, that's about £500 or just under £400 respectively. hmmm.

I sold my One X (32gb black) to one of the phone recycle places just a few days ago for £167 :p
Had it for about a year, also, and needed a new shiny thing!

So a couple of days on and I'm starting to love this phone.

The brightness in the sun was down to power saving mode being on (turned that off and it's clear as day :p).
I would still prefer the capacitive buttons to turn on when the screen wakes up but as my fingers are now remembering where they are it's not a massive problem.

It's just individual app problems now.
Music unlimited giving me that weird message and HSBC quick balance not allowing me to connect to the server but I know this is more than likely down to the apps themselves. I'll give the devs an email.

I really really want the firmware update before I start messing with the camera but I can't blame that on the phone (stupid three).

Quick question about google music - I tried to use it yesterday but the quality was rubbish (even though I've set it to play at the highest quality). Could this be down to my connection at the time? Does it improve as the connection improves in real time?

Does anyone know if there is a way to remove the facebook links etc in the gallery, please? All I'm wanting to show there is my local pictures/camera shots. Ta :)
