***The Official HTC One Thread***

Disturbing, too many faults from the sound of it. I dont understand it, I had a HTC hero that went on for years.

Build quality of second htc manufactured 14th May:

I still don't understand how a "hairline" gap can be considered to be a "serious" issue and mean poor build quality.........

If that is an issue, then every single tech/phone device out there has it and is even worse due to there being more and longer/bigger gaps as I have shown with pics of the GS 3, GS 4 and even the one S phones.

The speakers are not part of the "zero gap" machined body, they are stuck on.

As for the screen not being exactly flush, I will just say that to me it looks like it is only something you really notice when "looking" for it and at very close range, I have looked at a number of display models of the one in a number of phone shops and none of these "issues" stand out with normal usage and this is under very bright conditions....

QC is the only reason I wouldn't buy an HTC and most of my info has come from ocuk I don't look at HTC forums on xda, I don't care what the reason is I wouldn't put up with shoddy stuff, look at the nightmares of momo and stoosh, on paper there's a lot to like with the One but I'm not prepared to play roulette when buying a phone, sorry to all the fans who identify with their phone manufacturer but that is how it is and going by sales figures I'm not alone.

It does seem to be mostly the One which has received so may reports of poor QC.... or is it just those purchased through the 3 or EE networks?

If there is a real problem here, then surely HTC must have realised it by now, and taken steps to improve the situation, if indeed it is having an effect on their sales figures.

I have seen several HTC 8X windows phones, all of which which appear to be constructed to very high standards... and I do consider myself to be a very 'fussy' person, but perhaps these are manufactured elsewhere, or in another 'plant'!

If QC is so important to you then why did you buy a GS 4 with all its issues?

- over heating
- screen issues (screen smearing, pink/purple tint, red pixels, AMOLED itself cracking with very little pressure +there at least another 5 big threads about that specific issue)
- the gaps it has
- audio issues

+ all the "huge" threads on XDA back that up

Granted some of those have been fixed/improved now (screen smearing issue hasn't actually been fixed) but originally, no one was exactly sure if it could be fixed with an update and most thought they were related to hardware.

What about the sudden death issue that affected pretty much every note II and GS 3 owner?

What about the "nightmare" issues that ManCuBuS, mrk, e36Adz etc. had with their GS 3/note II's and Samsungs customer service when it came to the sudden death issue?

And then what about the likes of jono8 and some other guy (will look for his posts) who had to go through 3 or 4 GS 4's and still didn't get a "good" one?

The reason for Samsung's huge sales figures is not purely down to QC quality........Even a number of sites have recently done an article on why the HTC one might not be enough despite being an excellent phone as shown by most of the reviews etc. and they have all listed it is "largely" down to the marketing, brand presence and until HTC have the money that Samsung has and the brand presence, they will never match their sales, even if the phone was 100 times better than Samsung's and was £100 cheaper and had no issues at all.

You have to remember that these "issues" (i.e. the hairline gap, screen not being exactly flush) which are being reported would not bother the majority of people, if it does then why don't they also complain about every other device as well? The only devices where the screen is flush is when the entire front is glass i.e. GS 3, GS 4, nexus 4 etc.

You also have to remember, most people only ever post the bad things online (plus a lot of the stuff has been "faked" too, remember Samsung have been paying people to trash talk the HTC one???), hardly anyone comments/posts if they have a perfect/good unit.

EDIT:

Here are the GS 4 gaps:

EDIT:

And for the record, I have intention of buying a HTC one, in fact, I am very strongly considering buying the GS 4 at the minute as "for me", it is a better device overall now (due to the extra MP since I am editing my photos a lot now, SAMOLED screen, easy to root and flash stuff etc.)

This is just hilarious. 5th replacement (handset number 6) came today. They got the colour wrong. Sent me a black instead of silver.

Here's hoping 7 is my lucky number. :o

@ Nexus, I haven't got the s4, still on the Nexus 4, I'm prob gona get an s3lte as a temp then get a Note 3, your list of issues, though most are apparently getting sorted now, is part of the reason I didn't buy the s4 straight away, now it seems better than its competition but with only 20odd weeks till Note 3 and the fact that my current phone is 6 months old I think I'll hold off for the big boy :D

For a few weeks the One was at the top of my list of potentials I'm not prejudiced but I pay attention to user reports not PR dreams.

This x10000000000000000.

Whenever you go near a phone shop - or hear someone who has - they instantly knew about the S4. And it's not for the looks.

Many with an iPhone have said the One is a very nice looking phone, and is very well made, but I've heard none of them even say a nice word about any of the Galaxy range for their looks/quality.

The case issues can be expected (but not accepted) when looking at the HTC One, due to the way it has been made.

As another little aspect my mate who bought the One, loves it, sold his desire z to another mate for £80, who hates it but that's another story, anyway most folk think his One is a refurb it's so poorly put together and that he only likes the one because he came from the desire z, I agree re the z but know he didn't buy a refurb and that's HTC build quality.

I had advised the buying mate to get a huawei y300.

When things are mass produced of course you are going to get quality issues along the way. I see it every day at my work place.

The hairline gap thing is such a cop out of an excuse to replace a phone, It isn't even that bad! As me & Nexus said earlier in the thread people are just being too anal.

I wouldn't say HTC's QC is any worse than Samsung or even Apple. Some people have just got unlucky or as said being far too anal.

I will swap your black one for my silver one by the way :p I wanted black but couldn't get it with Three :P

Did you mention they were being anal, I'd hate to have a sub par device that cost £500 just to be called anal if I complained, the fact that many/some??? are perfect would compound my anger as it would prove that mine was indeed worthy of the status of second or b grade and should therefore have been cheaper.

For me, some are being anal, where as others have got something to complain about. Such as the focusing issue posted by AndyCr15.

Three really are taking it when it comes to software updates. Not even 1.29 yet...

Hey tell that to the complainants not me I'm merely commenting on their complaints but IMHO perfect is perfect and b grade is cheaper.

I was replying to your post which looked like it was aimed towards me.

I know some people have genuine problems, But that happens with a lot of other devices also which Nexus also pointed out.

I love mine, it's fantastic, think i've been lucky with no issues, there may be a gap here or there, there may not be I didn't look and don't care, I have a poetic case on it and just use it.
