***The Official HTC One Thread***

Yes, I S-OFF'ed, unlocked bootloader, changed CID then relocked bootloader, S-ON'ed & flashed HTC_001 1.28 RUU then OTA updated to 1.29. Nothing to show anything has been tampered with.

S-OFF = the phones NAND security is turned off
CID = Carrier Identification, the thing that let's the phone hardware know if it's branded or not
OTA = Over the Air update

In the end I ended up flashing Android Revolution HD (so no OTA). It's the same as stock but faster (which is impressive considering stock is already very fast).

I used s-off to unlock the bootloader so I don't have to worry about warranty (I'm still s-off and the bootloader is still unlocked. I guess there's no point locking it then s-on unless I need to).

I believe even if you used the original process to unlock the bootloader and have "Tampered" you can still use s-off to remove this and lock it back up.

I am hoping to be offered an early upgrade from Vodafone, but am curious just how much 'customisation' Vodafone make to the firmware, or whether they do in fact just use 'stock' ROM's.

What are other members experiences here... assuming of course that some folk have actually received their HTC One's directly from Vodafone?

Vodafone splash screen on boot and a couple of apps I think on the one I got though it was through our business contract at work. It was 1.29.something, but I'm using my Orange SIM so put Android Revolution on anyway :).

Is there a guide for changing your CID?

I just realised updating the ROM didn't actually update my firmware. I need to go back to stock, OTA then reflash the custom rom.

*edit - I found one. :)

Thanks Andrew... I appreciate your reply!

I assume the retail ones will be the same, but it would be good if anyone could kindly confirm that.

Cheers! :)

I would love to get an unlocked, unbranded one, and then go onto a 'SIM only' tariff, but £490 (or thereabouts) is a lot of dosh to find upfront!

Google edition is on the Play store (will only appear for those in the US though).

Overall it seems both the HO and S4 runs stock Android, but with a touch of Sense/Touchwiz respectively.

Focusing on the HTC One, the main features that are missing is Blinkfeed, Car mode, HTC's extra camera features + Zoe and IR. Unfortunately it seems the "wonderful" black bar with the menu button will appear, without the option to map the home button as the menu button. It seems they are smoother though thanks to less bloat.

Now HTC... there's 4.2.2 stock for the HO.... where's 4.2.2 Sense :p?

EDIT: HTC also released the soource code for the Google Edition as well, this should really help developers basing off AOSP: http://www.htcdev.com/DevCenter/downloads

meh

Biggest advantage has been lost imo, google aren't providing the updates/software according to a few sites, means software won't come as soon as it does for the true nexus devices and the phones might not get all the new android updates either since it is back into HTC and Samsung's hands.... :o

Good look at both devices and what is there and isn't there.

Thanks, RUU?

I always thought it was Rom Update Utility

Yeah that's correct to the best of my knowledge.

yeah basically the RUU using a stock HTC ROM will allow you to reset all the flags so that it relocks the bootloader and doesn't show anywhere that it's been unlocked and flashed etc.

I guess the difference between that and the S-Off version is that to unlock the bootloader normally you have to register your IMEI with HTC meaning whist the device itself gives off no signal that it's been unlocked you've still registered with HTC that the warranty for that IMEI is void whereas doing the S-off thing sidesteps HTC altogether.

I have a HTC One on a domestic contract, has same boot screen as business, but it does not have any apps.

Not sure if thats because I'm using it with my SFR sim in france.

I picked mine up as a upgrade from P4U and it's got no branding or anything.

The SIM won't make a difference. Did you buy the device from Vodafone direct or via a different channel like Carphone?

They still can't prove you've done anything with your phone just because you've registered on a website if you use s-off to reset the tamper flag.

Anyway, I've update my firmware to 1.29 and have the Android Revolution HD ROM on my phone.

It's all good but the camera is a lot worse (which is the main reason I went through the hassle of updating everything).

Think I'm going to reset it all and try and get three to send me a replacement.

I'm pretty sure it said you were invalidating your warranty simply by unlocking the bootloader using the tools provided by the HTC dev website?

As in the site knew you'd done it?

I mean to be fair I doubt very much that HTC or anyone for that matter is so joined up to know or even so motivated to care, I don't recall ever seeing someone getting refused warranty service due to rooting/flashing etc.
