***The Official HTC One Thread***

I've got the option of swapping my silver One for the black version, can anyone with a black version comment on how it looks?

Particularly interested in if the edges are wearing down and showing the silver underneath.

Looks bloody great, much prefer the black over the silver.

Not got a mark on mine and had it a month now, A decent case is a good idea.

Only problem with a case is that I find it spoils the design :(

Have you had it in a case for the month you've been using the device?

A few photos from last month, pretty good lighting

*edit*NVm those have been compressed to hell on imgur :S
what's the best place to upload uncompressed images for sharing on forums?

I have a fully stock three HTC rom.

How would I go about s-offing (so as to not void my warranty) and sorting it so that I can get OTA updates on stock?

There are guides showing different things on the internet but I don't know exactly what I have to do. What is adb?

Here is a little quick guide to how I managed to put a ROM of my choice onto my HTC One.

Preparation
Download the ROM(s) you are wanting to use. Once downloaded, drop the .zip onto the phone memory, anywhere you wish. Do this first as it makes it much more straight forward for later.

Back-up everything you want. As it will be lost as soon as the bootloader is done.

Unlocking the bootloader
The bootloader. Following his instructions make it simple, and his download is clean. Watch how he starts his phone into bootloader mode, as this is used throughout this process.

Recovery
Then, it is the recovery step. I used the tool you can find here.

On there, you follow the instructions on the right hand side, and I would recommend using CWM (Clock Work Mod) for the recovery step. It is very easy to use.

Installation
Once the recovery is done, you can restart the phone & use recovery mode this time, rather than fastboot as you will have been using previously. Select to load the rom from the internal SD card, and then find the .zip file. Once you have selected it, please be patient. Once this has completed, your phone will load up with its new rom installed.

*This guide is my attempt to help. Follow at your own risk! :)

Cheers Ryan - your recovery link is broken.

So the above is to unlock bootloader and flash a custom recovery? Then install custom ROM?

That is to unlock bootloader, flash custom recovery, then install custom ROM.

Edited the link :) - I also found in 4.2.2 the developer options are hidden, until you press the 'build number' of the android you are using seven times, confirming you are a 'developer'.

About to upload some pictures taken with 2.17!

Cool cheers, when I'm off next I'll give this a whirl on my dads ONE. His is still stuck on ancient 1.28 firmware. He's had it about 2 months and not 1 single FW update has presented itself. How lame.

Mattey1 - did you use the same method as Ryan? Anything you want to add?

I was stuck on 1.28 thanks to Three. Really annoyed me. Make sure you get the 'Odexed' version of the rom I linked earlier, as that allows the OTA updating :)

-->Here are a few shots using 2.17.<---

Quite impressed with the way it can pick all of the dust up well (which I blew about, and forgot about..), as well as the water droplet on the leaf.

I did it the exact same way as Ryan, But I didn't move anything over to the phone until I unlocked the bootloader & installed TWRP recovery. I personally use Trickdroid too which is stock but with some nice addons/tweaks you can install.

Nice little guide that Ryan (thumbs up)

I was under the impression that Ryans method voided your warranty because it shows that the bootloader has been tampered with?

There is a way to use s-off to get round this I think?

I have no idea don't really care about warranty just wanted my phone to be the way I wanted it to be & to get the latest updates cause Three suck :p

Yeah all perfect thanks mate. Can't really see too much difference, then again I've never rooted before so don't know what to expect. I'm hoping for better battery life then stock and camera improvements. Is maxthon browser really any good also?
