***The Official HTC One Thread***

Anyone moved from a Nexus 4 to the HTC one?

Didn't move from a Nexus 4 but I did compare my HO with my friend's N4 as soon as I got it. Is there anything specific you wanted know know between the two devices? Because personally I feel it's not really a big difference between the two apart from the nicer screen and more premium feel.

Did the move from the N4 to the One.

I personally think the camera is a lot better in every aspect. Making the phone a GE device & still being able to use the sense camera app means I get the best of both worlds.

That sounds to me like a 'pressure' problem, which is probably internal.

There are a number of similar apps entitled 'Dead Pixel Test' which I have found useful, but personally I would be returning mine if I found so much as one single dead pixel, as we are looking at a very expensive top of the range phone here.

You don't say how long you have had your phone, or if you have had a chat with the supplier yet, but if you got it from one of the 'big boys' then I think you should definitely be looking at a repair, or more hopefully be asking for a direct exchange.

I tried the dead pixel restorer thing, but no luck :( it had about 5 or 6 dead pixels at least before the purple smudge appeared. I took the contract out in early April but had to return the first phone because of a dodgy volume rocker about 2 weeks later. Bought it from Dial a Phone and since I'm out of the 28day no quibble exchange (which I used for the volume rocker) DAP will have to send it to HTC I imagine for fixing. :(

I wonder how long I'm going to be without a phone.

You'll probably be best off dealing with HTC direct, skipping out on the sending to and from dialaphone.

Also keep a track of all your communication with HTC just incase they mess you around. This gives you some ammo incase you need to complain.

I've found the turn around with HTC to be around 3-5 working days if they know what the problem is. Otherwise it can be a bit of a nightmare. Hopefully it's a straight forward repair without any cost to you. Good luck mate!

Yeh I thought about doing that, but got worried that HTC would say it was accidental damage and not covered by the warranty and charge me £25 to return it.

I can't really see how they can say that a purple smudge on the screen was caused by accidental damage, unless of cause there are other external signs, such as scratches etc... and I would consider 5 or 6 dead pixels to be unacceptable anyway, and again not something you could have instigated.

Hopefully they will just send you a nice shiny new phone, which would be great, providing of course you could survive for a few days without a phone!

Good Luck anyway! :)

Hopefully!

Cheers - i'll update the thread as it progresses! The phone is in very good condition and has a couple of minor paint fleck removals about it. Nothing that's consistent with being dropped though, just nearly 4 months of being in a pocket.

And does anyone know if HTC charge £25 to return the phone if they say it is not a warranty claim/accidentally damaged? I've heard a lot of bad things about HTC warranty claims and just trying to make sure there are not surprises.

For reference - this is it. Any LCD pro's know what it might be?

I'm reasonably sure they'll tell you that's a stress fracture. If you take any LCD type screen and press it you get all those wonderful colours, sometimes it stays like it. That's what that looks like to me.

Now I'm sure you're going to say it's never had any pressure applied which may well be true but I'd guess that's not how HTC are going to see it.

Seems the update broke the google keyboard on the htc, if I root it would I have to run a different ROM to get it to work or would rooting alone work?

does it just flat refuse to install? Or if you can install it is it all messed up and super basic?

I ask because I had the exact same thing with my S4 on a recent wanamlite rom update.

For what its worth there's a free app called jellybean keyboard which is identical other than the swiping feature. I was using that for ages before the official keyboard was released and now I'm back to it.

I need the swiping unfortunately, godsend :p

It can install, I can boot the app, but the 'select keyboard' bit only has Google Voice, HTC, SwiftKey.
