Hmm, not liking the sound of the new lock screen. I like mine - I have the standard time/weather/quicklaunch at the bottom. Will this change in the new version?

It will still look the same. It's just using it that feels different. I use to be able to swipe anywhere to unlock... now I have to make the extra effort to make sure my thumb is on the clock/lockpad icon .

Gave 3DMark a run, scores jumped a bit.

Ice Storm Extreme:
6944 -> 7008

Ice Storm Unlimited:
10615 -> 11029

It could be me just imagining things but the phone does feel more smoother.

Got a small bug fix update first before the main big update on my HTC_001. Wow that was quick, I was still expecting a couple more weeks :p. Hopefully 4.4 will roll out really fast then...

I'm tempted to jump to the GE ROM however depending on how good it's IR support is.

What do you mean depending on how good IR support is? IR works as far as I am aware you just have to get one of the apps from the store.

The only thing i am sad about really is that since 4.3 you can no longer use the sense camera on the GE Roms :| It was complete like that for me. If only HTC could put the ability back in to use the sense camera i'd be in my element.

Well it depends on if the IR support will be enabled on the GE ROM. I guess that's up to HTC to decide though.

Another little niggle is, Google's implementation is only sending signals, not receiving/learning like in Sense. I have a really annoying TV that doesn't seem to be in the standard list and learning the signal from the remote is the only way.

Just updated both our O2 branded phones here. I'm not sure if its in the mind but I think it's a bit smoother.
I think Google did some under the hood tweaks to 4.3 which is probably what you are experiencing.

Something called TRIM? I'm quite new to Android so no 100% sure what it is.

4.4 is even smoother on the Nexus 5, HTC have pledged it is coming to the HTC One so be interesting to see what happens :)

Look for the 3 dot menu to the right of the "alphabetical" filter option. Press that and you'll get the menu up, press the grid size option. In the screen shot the 3 dot menu is highlighted in blue.

doh!!!!!!! I was swiping down from the top of the screen now sorted thanks Guys :D

4.3 all installed and seemingly everything OK - seems slightly zippier to me, but nothing empirical to back that up.....

is anyone else getting major color balance and purple fringing issues in low light now?

low light

Yup, A LOT of people are suffering with this. It looks like a hardware issue, the sensor needs to be replaced.

Mine is doing this (even worse than yours). I'll send it in one day for repair but I can't be bothered with the hassle at the moment.

Is anyone else having a problem with the default SMS app when using Swype in landscape mode? Once I've entered some text the send button is no longer visible, only the attachment button. It seems the only way to get the send button back is to open and close the keyboard again in portrait mode...

Mine's gone back to HTC today.

Anyone know what HTC are like turnaround time wise for warranty RMA's?

Not great. People have had quite a lot of hassle with HTC UK. This was at launch though so maybe they've improved by now.

When I do send mine in it will be going back to who I bought it from (three), their turn around is about 3-5 days.

Not sure I could send mine back to vendor. I ordered it from mobilephonesdirect as part of a contract the week it was announced (pre-order) so I think HTC direct was my only option at this stage. I had a dodgy gappy unit from day one but I stuck with it. Camera has gotten worse though and the nexus 5 has spurred me on to getting my One fixed up.

Has anyone's power button got stuck down at all? I try cleaning it with paper but it just seems to happen more and more regularly now and is hard to get back up with short nails

I've bought a second hand HTC One :D I had a Motorola Razr HD but cracked the screen rendering it inoperable and to me it seemed too expensive to repair. Had the Motorola after having both an HTC One S and One X. Both these phones suffered terribly in my locale with signal reception and eventually sold them both and got the Motorola which was fine. I live in the sticks BTW.

I vowed never to buy another HTC phone but read good reports about the HTC One and no one seems to grumble about signal reception. So whilst everyones attention is on the Nexus 5 I bought a second hand HTC One in black.

Turns out I'm very happy with it. Signal reception is great being as good as the Motorola if not better  No loss of signal at all even though today I've been in an area where I know it's terrible and HTC One has hung on regardless. Battery is good too with more than enough left at the end of the day. Screen is excellent as is in call volume and those front speakers are amazing. All this and it cost less than a new Nexus 5 32gb :D though is 3 months old which is hardly old. Leaving it as stock for the time being though just upgraded it to 4.3 and sense 5.5.

Just don't tell Nexus 18

That is the only thing I'm not right keen on. Not sticking down but is taking some getting used to on top of the phone and a fiddly little so and so to use.

Yeah moving from an S3 it has ****ed me off no end, but much happier with the general shape of the phone and its the best looking on the market for me

Mine has not actually stuck down ever, but it does seem to protrude far less now than it did when I first got the phone.

It is still usable though, so doesn't worry me unduly... and I can't think of any other phone I would rather have instead anyway!

I had no idea you could do it without dragging the lock icon, I just tried and you are right :D I'd never noticed that!

I guess that means I will notice zero lockscreen differences with the new firmware?
