***The Official HTC One Thread***

For those who can't be bothered faffing around waiting for HTC to get their fingers out of their a***.

The N4 16gb is in stock in the Play store and will be delivered within 3-5 days.

I don't know about you but a total outlay of £289 as opposed to £500 you get a decent phone which isn't a slouch in terms of speed and processing power. Cutting edge latest android AND premium build quality.

That's if you can live with a mediocre camera

Any of you going to get one?.....:D;)

was going too... but 16gb is not enough for me :(

Never used to be for me either and was constantly juggling stuff around when I had the HOS.

I came from a 16Gb S3 with a 64Gb memory card but since I've moved all my music collection to Google Play Music. I have more than enough room for videos and other misc items. :)

Either way regardless of where abouts you live, there does seem to be shortage/delays, so HTC have lost, complete and utterly ****ed up big time. although they were always going to loose anyway against Samsung in terms of sales/popularity anyway due to their crappy marketing/advertising etc.! :p

Even if HTC had the same level of marketing for the One than Samsing will have for the S4, Samung would still sell **** loads more than HTC.

Samsung has massive brand awareness amongst the general public as they sell everything and compete at the top level.

HTC only make phones - not even tablets ffs. 1 out of 10 people would probably pick HTC over Samsung because HTC haven't consistently made competitive phones and no-one really know what HTC are about, the last 2 gens have always missed important specs. HTC is a great OEM but they make silly ****-ups.

Samsung win @ Android as they have the full and most complete ticket. And with every model they just get stronger until eventually the competition catchup just like where Apple were with the iPhone.

I believe the One will do better than last years HOX, but tbh they could have murdered it if they didn't faff around soo much and have the niggly shortcomings.

Just checked my emails and found this from handtec,

"Thank you for placing your pre-order with Handtec for the new HTC One.

We understand you want this brilliant device as soon as possible and we want to get it to you before anybody else!
However we have had some unfortunate news today and it seems there has been a widespread delay straight from HTC, this will affect the release of all HTC One devices resulting in delays for all retailers.
Handtec currently expect stock to arrive week commencing the 25th March 2013.
Rest assured Handtec have been first with all previous HTC launches and will be working with HTC to ensure this launch is no different.
We appreciate that some customers may wish to make changes to their orders and we recommend that all requests are forwarded to the below email address
"

Guess it don't get more official than that, still don't stop me being well p***ed of with htc, as I've said before they don't do themselves any favors with their lunch antics! They really could take some marketing lessons form Apple or Samsung.

Rant over :D

Engadget's One Review is up - seems fairly positive other than some niggles with Sense 5!

Pros

Gorgeous design
Camera does very well in low light
Powerful quad-core Snapdragon 600 chip
Stunning 4.7-inch, 1080p display
Clever features like Zoe Share and Highlight Reel

Cons

A few aspects of the Sense 5 UI feel like a step backward

Bottom Line

HTC's latest flagship is the company's best effort to date. Its beautiful design, great display and solid performance have convinced us that the One is among the finest phones you can buy.

That's a more positive review, still not sure on the camera though by looking at the samples. It'd be good enough for me but in good light I'm not sure it's superior to what we have now.

More good news here:

For basic navigation, Sense 5 devices use two soft keys. This is a huge departure from Sense 4 devices, which use a three-button setup consisting of back, home and recent apps (with the latter being customizable to work as the menu button if desired).

I assume (and pray) that would remove this:

Because Sense 5 eschews a menu key, it means many third-party apps have to throw in the virtual menu key at the bottom of the screen. This feels like a step backward to us, especially after the One X was updated to allow menu functionality on the recent apps soft key.

Good find! :D

A decent review much better than the half-a**d effort from The Verge. Already contradicting their stupid and insane review of the battery!

The One's 2,300mAh battery is a solid improvement in size over previous flagships -- the One X used a 1,800mAh cell, while the One X+'s was beefed up to 2,100 -- so we were hoping to see a measurable boost in how long its battery held up. Now for the moment of truth: in our rundown endurance test, in which we play an HD video on endless loop, the One made it through six and a half hours before all of its juice was sucked dry -- an average result. As a disclaimer, our initial real-world usage tests were conducted on AT&T's 1900MHz network, which admittedly doesn't offer consistent HSPA+ speeds in our area; with this in mind, we got almost nine hours of constant use, which consisted of emailing, social media, taking pictures, making a few calls and an assortment of other random activities. Our UK team just received a unit with full LTE coverage, so expect an update from us as soon as they run through the same battery test.

Decent review am looking forward to actually getting my hands on the device which will probably arrive in the first week of April now. (Dont forget that any shipments that are posted after the 29th March will run into the Easter break!)

Does make you wonder how much/little time there was in planning the One, that they clearly have a poor contingency and poor resources to handle these supply problems. I remember Apple had problems in keeping up the production of their Retina screens when iPhone 4 came out, but they still managed to get things out on time and keep things moving.

Does make me think that the release of the One was probably a bit rushed, in an attempt to gain the initiative on Samsung perhaps. But as Kona says above, I don't think HTC is ever realistically going to compete with Samsung sales wise, it just can't. So did it really matter that they get this out before SGS4? Isn't it common sense for these manufacturers to be more certain about supply at launch before actually announcing their products?

And it's not even like they can rely on their name to carry them- when Apple are in short supply it sort of works in their favour too, that it is in such high demand that it drives the 'must have' factor even further. HTC don't have that, and so it works against them, so being unable to supply will just drive more people towards the SGS4.

@Kona

Personally I don't :p Samsung would still sell more due to things like them being a brand, which you know/recognise straight away etc. but if they both had the same level of marketing/advertising (and htc didn't release loads of devices, only the one), there would definitely not be as huge of a difference in sales as there currently is.

Again, if marketing wasn't the key to their huge success then why would they continue to up their marketing budget each time? If it wasn't they are just wasting money for the sake of it.

Last years HTC phones were very good competitors to the GS 3 and personally I would still take a HOS/XL (and one X now that its main issues are sorted with JB/sense V4+ and new batches) over a GS 3 any day of the week (many people have moved from the GS 3 to the one S etc. for the same reasons I prefer them to the GS 3).

Again I point to the razr HD/MAXX, they are a more complete/better phone than the GS 3 overall aside from the camera mainly yet in the USA, GS 3 has still sold way more. And motorola aren't exactly a brand, which not many people aren't sure about compared to HTC.

The thing is though, their other products aren't really that high end/good, only now are they starting to catch up with the TV tech. but compared to panny etc. they still have a long way to go. Everything else of theirs has always been pretty crap imo i.e. laptops (no idea what they are like these days for that though) etc. the only thing outside of phones that I would consider of theirs are hard drives/SSD's. Maybe they are just concentrating on one market at a time :p as their phones were never that great either until the GS 2.

True they do make stupid mistakes but that is one of my points, how many average joes (the majority of customers) will know about those things i.e. tegra 3, how many will care about having as much storage as possible (a lot of people still use MP3 players/ipods as dedicated music players), RGB NLED (GS 2/GS 1 didn't even have a NLED yet it was still popular, where as the sensation and desire had a great RGB NLED + SD slot, removable battery etc.), removable battery etc.? Not very many. It is only us on these sites that seem to care about "everything" and even then there are people that aren't bothered about minor things like the NLED, removable battery etc. i.e. in my case, SD slot, removable battery means nothing and imo those are the only real advantages of the samsung phones generally.

As I keep saying, I think the galaxy phones are great, there is no denying that, however, imo they are over hyped, over rated and aren't "that much" better than the competition, with the GS 2, no questions, outstanding but with the GS 3 VS the comp. no way imo.

I think the one will do better than last year as well, not so much due to it being a great phone overall but due to HTC marketing/advertising it better, only having the one phone.

edit:

Perfect example, my friends husband got her the GS 3 for the reason "was the most popular device and was always seeing things about it on TV", I was showing her new phones (needs a new one as she broke her GS 3) and telling her about the specs etc. she didn't have a clue and when showing her the nexus 4, she was more impressed with it than the GS 3, however, still wants another GS 3 or is waiting for the GS 4 now and she is not a power user at all....

Guess will just have to agree to disagree on this though! :p

Samsung do make high end products in most markets now, laptops and TV's especially. Their TV's are among some of the best out there.

They've grown as a brand massively over the last 10 years or so.

I have no idea about laptops these days, only remembered when I was checking them out a year or so ago for a friend, they weren't regarded that well. TV are definitely improving and much better but compared to panny's top plasma TVs, they still aren't quite as good. Only big advantage of them is the software/smart stuff and the super thin bezel is great too.
