***The Official HTC One Thread***

I just checked the shop here and the release date has changed to: 01.05.2013

They got the One X and S out slightly earlier than the UK too so that's a concern.

:eek::eek: so if Samsung have no delays the SIV should be out first, wasn't mid April its expected arrival in the shops.

Didn't the GS 3 arrive very late for you though robbo? And iirc the iphone 5 too?

Either way regardless of where abouts you live, there does seem to be shortage/delays, so HTC have lost, complete and utterly ****ed up big time. although they were always going to loose anyway against Samsung in terms of sales/popularity anyway due to their crappy marketing/advertising etc.! :p

The GS3 was the same release date as the UK and the iPhone was 2 weeks behind, so not what I'd call late! :p

I bought the GS3 in England hence why I was a bit slow getting one, I also wasn't sure I wanted one at first either.

Google still aren't selling the Nexus 4 here which is a bit stupid. Then again the demand probably isn't all that great as it's 80% Apple and 20% Samsung.

It's obviously all different supply chains though so I wouldn't worry too much yet, but it's odd.

Yup because 100% totally proven beyond a doubt that marketing is the only reason Samsung out sell HTC, nothing to do with specs, quality, earned brand loyalty or fulfilled customers glad that potentially half a years disposable income wasn't wasted on a tech turkey telling their mates.

@Robbo

Ah ok :)

I wasn't 100% sure but thought I remembered you saying something about it being delayed in Norway, perhaps it was just with regards to the pebble blue version then as that was delayed everywhere by a good few weeks iirc?

Obviously specs etc. are good and I have said the galaxy phones are great, but they aren't that much "better", if any better than the other phones (depending on what is important) especially when it comes to "average joes"

- CPU/GPU, the snapdragon CPU is superb, average joes aren't going to know anything about tegra 3 except "quad"
- screen, personal preference, many sights still rate the X screen as the best
- battery GS 3 is much better than the X but not the XL/S
- software, personal preference

etc.

Explain to me where the exynos CPU etc. is very noticeable that allows Samsung to sell many more units? Does it loads web pages/apps etc. 10 seconds faster, does the camera take far better photos in every condition, is the audio crystal clear compared to the one phones etc.

Plenty of satisfied customers with HTC, sony etc. phones. I could go through the GS 3, note II thread and pick out a ton of users who haven't been happy with their GS 3 etc. not to mention all the users who experienced the sudden death issue.....

Again if marketing etc. wasn't so important then why would Samsung be making such a big deal about it and putting so much money into it and plan to do the exact same again for the GS 4 etc.?

http://www.phonearena.com/news/Mark...-is-the-mind-boggling-amount-it-spent_id40543

“Samsung’s focus on marketing was the main reason the company was so successful last year,” an anonymous source inside Samsung said.

“With its strategic Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note smartphones selling tens of millions, the company doesn’t care too much about allocating a gigantic marketing budget," the Samsung source added.

If it wasn't the reason for being so successful then they could save themselves a **** load of money.

I know you are a big fan of Samsung devices but you can't deny that the "main" reason they sell a ton of devices is due to their marketing/advertising and not just how many ads etc. there are but the way they "execute" the ads compared to HTC.

Lets put it this way, if Samsung's marketing/ads were much the same as HTC, do you still think they would be selling as many units as what they are currently?

Also lets hear why you think the RAZR HD/MAXX didn't do well? As the only disadvantage of it compared to the GS 3 is the camera.

There is nothing wrong with the way Samsung market their devices, HTC etc. need to learn from them and it is their fault that they are doing so bad, but to make it out like that isn't the reason why they are largely so successful is mind boggling.

I agree with their success with the GS 2 (much deserved!) as that was miles ahead of every phone, but not with the GS 3.

Hm, maybe. I can't remember, you must have a better memory than me. I'll look in the thread. :p

You're right: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=22021808&postcount=5330

It was just the blue one though, I don't think it was for that long, maybe a couple of weeks.

Getting old! :p :D

Yeah iirc there was some issue with the blue one, something to do with the colour not being the right "colour" iirc the first PB version was too blue and then the next one was darker.

And the majority of people just went for the white GS 3 due to that and then where trying to "convince" themselves that white was better than PB :D

Well done HTC, masters of there own demise. I need a phone on the 16th, preferably to pick it up from a shop. Getting tempted to go for the Z now.

Exactly I wouldn't be too pleased if I had sold a phone to get the HO, still the delay gives me a chance to weigh up the pros and cons between this and the S4 and make a solid decision.

I like that phrasing. Yes indeed HTC are masters of their own demise. They always make some kind of mistake which is hard for them to recover.

You could always consider the N4 if its available in the Play store. The last time I checked it shipped within a week. Failing that and you're willing to pay a little more try Handtec or even CPW on PAYG. That's if you can live with a mediocre camera.

Sticking the best possible components into a phone thats technically brilliant then wrapping it in cheap nasty plastic is many things but 'quality' is not one of them.

Loving the feel of my glass N4 but if I drop it without its Nilkin flip case I will wish it was made of plastic, it's swings and roundabouts but ultimately my phone is a functional tool and I want shock absorption so to me plaky is good :)

A couple of weeks ago iirc cnbc covered the Taiwanese minister of trade was extolling HTC to work as hard as they could and the people of Taiwan to buy HTC stuff or the Co was in trouble, I wonder what he knew.

CNBC is ace for tech news, today Sam up apple down and yday Samy became the largest mobile seller in China overtaking Lenovo, BB Z10 released today in the US so it's getting loads of coverage today.

Apple have been talked down all day in relation to Sammy and BB, incidentally lots of talk today of BB being sold still doing sw but possibly Lenovo making their phones, apparently AT&T pay BB $600 per BBz10.

Had the S3 before I lost it, now when I return home ill have an ancient htc hero that barely works apart from the hard buttons (due to my daughter eating it..).

Love the looks of this and the speakers would be a bonus, dont mind average camera have a d3100 and the wife has a xperia s which is good enough for most things. The Z is tempting but had a few minor niggles, will have to check in store if I can live with the viewing angles plus xperias are a bit laggy normally hope they've fixed it.

N4 is very tempting due to the price but don't want to really downgrade from the S3 plus no LTE, 720 screen and its LG?! :P

S4 will be great I guess but fugly too plus want a bit of change after having the S3.

Just out of curiosity, why do the speakers matter so much to people considering this phone.

On any phone I have owned I have only ever used them to show someone a quick video I may have taken on the phone or sharing a quick youtube clip. Not the kind of scenarios where sound or video quality needs to be great.

The only people I ever see using loud speakers are annoying youngsters on London buses!! If anyone is serious about wanting to listen to their phone (movies, videos, music) surely they use headphones (to be considerate)?

Edit: I like the idea of them being stereo speakers (I think very few phones have this) but question their usefulness in practice.

Makes it stand out from the others, at my work I cant use headphones so rely on speakers for songs and videos, the gs3 was a bit quiet for videos.

I like to listen/watch yt Vids while I wash up or work on a PC or multitask while I do other stuff at night tbh the only time I use my earphones is when I'm out by myself on foot, hardly ever, each to their own.

The speakers are one of the Ho's many good points iyam, they'd be ideal for me, despite what some folk are obviously thinking of my perceived negativity the Ho is still well in the running to be my No one phone with the SIV and Note 3.
