***The Official HTC One Thread***

I may have gotten you confused with some other XZ owner doohickey :p

Video comparing optimus G, xperia Z and one:

One looks really good although it seems like it is slow for focusing up close. HDR looks fantastic, wouldn't think that it was a dark cloudy/gloomy day with the way it brightens every thing up. Looked the smoothest out of those 3.

Really impressed with the optimus G recording as well.

optimus G looked great on the video recording.. Z not so much :) one was right in the middle.

Very first impressions (while my data is transferring over etc).

The screen is better. I think we're all in agreement here.

I think I prefer the Xperia's default font over HTC's.

Also think I prefer the Xperia keyboard over HTC's.

I prefer the location of the Xperia's power button (and of course similar place on the SGS3/4).

The HO's NLED is in a strange kind of place.

Apart from that, everything else is just wow at the moment. And dare I say, it matches my Macbook Pro quite nicely :D

Edit: Also, meh, the ambient light sensor makes the screen brightness change in steps, looks clunky. It's completely smooth on my old iPhone.

Just looked through the rest of the pocketnow photos and lumia 920 wins in most of them, pretty much more detail being captured most of the time.

edit:

You can probably install the xperia keyboard if you want DH, personally I recommend the JB 4.2 keyboard or swiftkey instead though.

Yeah I agree with the 920 looking superior.

Will look at the 4.2 keyboard and try Swiftkey, although the Xperia keyboard had a really great system, accurate swiping and suggestions, and a nicely spaced layout too.

Heading to work in a bit, will try out the camera in the daytime tomorrow and post some comparisons if I can, I wonder if my results are any different to Elixir's.

If you thought that about the xperia keyboard, you will be blown away by swiftkey then! :p :D

Personally I prefer the 4.2 KB though, nicer looking imo, better layout overall and I find the swype gesture to be more accurate amongst other wee things, this is the one I use. The predictive/auto correct text isn't as good (once SK learns) but it is good enough and don't have any serious problems with it.

I found the htc keyboard to be really good (on sense V4+), gesture swiping was accurate for me and predictive text was good enough.

That would be great if you can, be interesting to see how the photos come out as in the android central comparison, the one looks way better.

The camera on Elixir's One looks dodgy to me. There's something very wrong with this current batch, have HTC messed up big time?

Yeah GS 2 is looking better overall :/

The One has a very wide lens compared to the Samsung, it was never going to be sharper but you get lots more width. (Personally I'd want a super sharp/bright 40-50mm lens and let photosphere take care of the rest. :p)

...and don't forget nothing's really changed since the first 8MP BSI unit for single shots. E.g. my Xperia Arc and HOS are very similar. The key difference is bandwidth and processing power for features.

Those One shots looks too digital, too dated, camera phone-esque from the early phones, if that makes sense.

Yep, HTCs jpg engine is fairly rubbish. Noise reduction/sharpening is especially bad, this is the one area we could see a massive improvement (for all smartphones)

Normally I'd agree but since Samsung put in Low Light mode my feeling has changed somewhat!

That's just with an energy saving 8watt uplighter in the corner and the rest of the light coming from my monitors. In daylight it's ridiculous! S3 would be the same.

^ Actually that's a good point. Samsung seem to be nailing shadow/highlight recovery with nice noise reduction/sharpness.
I bet sticking the RAW through Lightroom 4 would improve things even further though :p

Now you see why I would prefer to stick with Samsung :p

Okay, the camera isn't an integral part of everyone's phone usage habits but I can bet you my fine buttocks that when they do want to take a grand picture that the nicer it looks the more it wows instead of it being "just a picture for the random encounters folder" :)

Can't seem to decide between this and the S4.

Although unless there's decent availability of the 64GB version at roughly the same price as the S4 at the time, I think my choice will be made for me...

So what's the conclusion on the camera? Just skimming everything and seems to be okay in low light but not so good elsewhere?

IMO they made a mistake by trying out "new tech" on the flagship phone that the companies futures are basically pinned on. 4MP simply isn't enough, and they should have waited until the technology allowed 8MP as a minimum before releasing it. Best option would have been an improved and tweaked version of the HTC One X camera with 8MP. This camera will dissappoint a lot of people with (enthusiasts) and without (Joe Public) knowledge of how the technology works.

You cannot attempt to "re-educate people" on something like this unless your market position is strong enough to really take attention away from the big players. And then you have to factor in that most of the people who buy the phones don't want to be re-educated and don't want to learn about why a lower MP camera is better... they just want something that produces good images at good size and detail. Samsung will provide this for them.

If HTC had added a MicroSD slot and regular but improved "non-ultrapixel" camera I think this phone would have been the undisputed sweetheart for the year. Alas, I predict this will not have the impact they were hoping for, despite being an excellent phone in almost all other respects.

Completely agree. Very disappointing. :(
