Nexus what's the deal with the day light issue? Only about half way through the review above and he seems to think it doesn't exist. Different lens? Software update?
HTC have supposedly confirmed that there is a problem with the ISO not being correctly adjusted/set (discovered by some german review site iirc), good article on what ISO is and the difference it can make:

I also think there could be other problems with the software/drivers as the lumia 920 and other phones had similar problems with images looking to soft/not detailed/sharp before a software update, stoosh posted some photos before and after the update on his gs 3 in the one s thread.
There also seems to be some problem with the camera hardware itself, I think the lens alignment (either that or htc are using good and bad lenses), as sarge pointed out, when you look at some photos, the right hand side is a blurry mess, followed by the left side and then the centre is the sharpest/most detailed e.g.

And lastly, another possible cause, the conflict with the dedicated image chip that HTC use and possibly their settings i.e. the one S/X are often regarded as over sharpening photos too much.
A lot of sites are putting the loss of detail/sharpness down to the lack of MP, however, it is nothing to do with that unless you crop/zoom in, print photos out on large paper, viewing a photo on a monitor with a res. like the dell 30" or retina mackbook pro etc. as has been shown, cameras with 3MP etc. can capture more detail etc. than 8-13MP cameras.
When you look at the specs, the one matches the lumia 920 (except the MP count) and even exceeds it in a few areas i.e. pixel size.
EDIT:
they also probably need to adjust the shutter speed as from what I have seen, the one has a VERY quick shutter and there is no way to adjust it afaik
