***The Official HTC One Thread***

Anyone rooted yet?

Rooting my Desire way back when was easy enough and rooting Samsung phones is easier still. Looking through XDA though it doesn't seem quite so straightforward for the One. Would appreciate any comments from those that have done it yet. Being able to root and install custom ROMs is my #1 priority when buying a phone, it's just as much a hobby for me as a communication device!

Yeah it's relatively straight forward - obviously not as much as the Nexus line of devices but still relatively painless.

I'm not running a custom ROM yet, just the standard 1.28 with SU and CWM.

I'm planning to root but I'm not sure if I want to yet, due to some stock apps in the data partition, which gets wiped when you unlock the bootloader. Quite silly HTC not making these apps part of the /system folder instead.

The APK's are available to download over at XDA and can just be re-installed. Most custom ROMs will start to bake them in I would imagine.

I'm using the TrickDriod Rom and I like it. It gives you options to remove apps you don't need before installing like google plus, facebook, remove Sense 5 etc and also many mod options like:

*removing the 3 dot menu at the top
*enabling hold back for menu in settings so the 3 dot menu does not appear at the bottom of your screen anymore.
*Disable Fast Dormacy
*use volume control to wake the up the phone instead of using the power button
*adjust brightness by swiping your finger on the top statusbar
* 5x6 grid option when viewing your apps
*I think its improved the battery life on my phone as well.

I especially like the quick settings

Word of warning Unlocking Your Bootloader voids your warranty, but you should be able to relock it later on.

@Wingz, I really like the quick settings looks fantastic. So Trickdroid would be the ROM to use :D

On another note some more delays from various retailers on the internet. I wonder if it's still attributable to the camera?

Clove:

First stock of silver units delayed until 3rd April. Black units due 10th April. Orders placed on or after 26/3/13 expected to ship late April.

Handtec:

Stock Update: Further delay from HTC, stock expected early April 2013. First batch expected 3rd April.

Rainforest

This item is due to be released on April 12, 2013.

It moves the HO even closer to the S4 release date!

Looks like we will have to wait till next week for the sim free version :(

"Thank you for your purchase of the HTC One.

We have received information from HTC today indicating a further delay with the Sim-free launch of the HTC One in the UK.

Handtec expect the first batch of the HTC One Silver on the 3rd April 2013 and the Black version on the 10th April 2013.

We have also been informed that stock will now be provided In smaller batches with the exact quantities still to be confirmed"

Not good news to see the words "smaller batches" Will htc ever learn and get a launch right.
At this rate the SG4 will be out first!

That's one of the downsides with being a smaller company and using a complex and slower manufacturing process for that vaunted premium look and feel... you can't produce them quick enough or in great enough quantity. Samsung on the other hand can pump out their plastic parts by the truckload per hour. :)

Premium materials vs Plastic fantastic it seems that the plastic will always win out, as Samsung have recently said they'll stick to the materials because they can make thousands of phones and get them out to the public ASAP.

That's where HTC loses out to Samsung and are in trouble...it's so close to the S4 I can see people just waiting for the S4 instead and get that.

HTC botch up comes to mind...

Yep saw it after I posted, not good news is it.
As you say stoosh, another royal mess by htc.

No it's not good news at all in fact it's extremely annoying especially for the likes of you and I who have been waiting ages for the phone, it's quite disheartening :(

Fingers crossed whatever manufacturing issue they have with the phone will be sorted out.

So will you be switching to the dark side (S4)? :p or will you wait it out? (seeing that the 3rd April isn't too far away)

My fav piece from that article...

Haha, I was sitting through some presentations today, some of which were computational simulation projects. One of the people mentioned that their calculations took several months so I asked about the computer he was running them on.

"It's ridiculously powerful, it has about 32GB of RAM so it's at least 32 times faster than your home computer for example."

No, I'll stick it out and wait. I'm not in to plastic phones, gave up playing with them when I left infants :D

On a more serious note I just read on handtec bolg - We have received confirmation that the UK SIM Free version Samsung Galaxy S4 will come with a 1.9 GHz Quad-Core Processor instead of the Octa-Core.

The mobile world seem to have gone to pot at the moment.

LOL! Nice one! :D

Yep it seems that Samsung are also having problems ramping up supply for the Exynos chip and will switch to a snapdragon processor for 70% of all S4 phones supplied.

It isn't a bad thing TBH as the Snapdragon S600 more than holds its own against the Exynos Octa core.

I personally think it is due to camera problems as well, not "just" due to the time it takes to make the casing etc. as HTC have never had problems in the past before with delays like this.

Some people will get fed up and just get the GS 4 but the ones who want this phone for its unique features i.e. front speakers, sense or/and design/build/perceived quality will wait as there is no other phone that can compete in two of those areas.

And TBF, for all we know the gs 4 could end up being delayed or have problems when it first comes out just like any other phone out there i.e. the gs 3 pb version was delayed due to some problem with the colour/finish and people got fed waiting so just went with white.

Besides I rather they delay the phones rather than rush them out just to beat the gs 4 as if they did rush them out then it means QC will be bad and there will be a ton of problems in which case every one will be going "omg, phone is so faulty, zOMG!" :p i.e. one S, X

The HTC One will be worth the wait! I would rather a short delay and them get the gremlins out than just push them out the door anyway....

I'm sure your right. After all no one has managed to make the perfect phone yet. htc usually manage to build a quality device, some may moan about software or battery but the build quality is usually spot on. Let's just hope there are no more delays other wise I might just ask for my £503 back and stick with my One X+ for now.

These delays won't help sales as HTC have a shaky reputation in the UK market. For some reason people seem to think their build quality/reliability is poor compared to other phones. This coupled with almost 0 marketing in UK retail (Hardly any reps in stores compared to Samsung/Apple) will impact the sales of what is an amazing phone.

I hope HTC get these issues sorted asap, I for one want to move away from going towards a S4.

one looks a lot better, not just for smoothness but also colours (gs 4 looks washed out) and detail. Although the GS 4 could improve with a software update.......

Not 'too' bothered about 1080P recording anyway, slow motion recording is what wins me over! :p

Depending on how you paid doggo Handtec won't take the money until the order is despatched. So if I were you I'd keep the order, as the only time they take money prior to sending out the phone is via Google Wallet and Paypal.

Probably best to all order online to keep dsr at your side just incase..... :o

Exactly! That's what I did and used DSR to return my HO, am still waiting for the refund, although P4U have been very excellent thus far and I'm impressed with the way they have been keeping me informed.

Still all these delays won't stop me putting in another order somewhere once I know for sure that the production problems have been sorted out.
