Fancy WiFi direct/DLNA, like Apple airplay on steroids. (full aspect mirroring, dual display multitasking etc)

Apparently these phones can already be rooted. Makes Sense (ha!) as HTC stated this last year.

Doesn't that mean you can wipe to stock anyway?

Temp root, will need an unlock tool or S-OFF for a perm root. Either if HTC release an official tool or awaiting highly skilled devs.

Without a doubt getting the Media Link HD, can see myself making use of it, sitting in front of the TV and browsing on a bigger screen, viewing back YouTube vids and such, very useful.

Well I have been needing a replacement phone for a while now so it was a toss up between the Gnex, OneX and SGS III. I found a good 12 month deal on dialaphone including the HTC Media Link and as such went with the OneX. If the SGS III turns out to be head and shoulders above the OneX then I shall simply look to upgrade after a year and even then the SGS III will have come down in price by then. I do think tho that the OneX looks pretty damned fantastic and can't wait for it to be delivered :)

Can you post details of the deal you went for??

Model HTC One X Black
Handset Cost £109.99
Contract length 12 months
Tariff Your Plan 36 MI - 300 Anytime Xnet Mins + Unlimited Text Messages + 500MB Mobile Internet
Network Vodafone
Monthly Cost £36

£35 Cashback through my employer's cashback link (which the cashback link would not work so I called them up and to explain that I had to go to their site direct to order it so they raised a BACS credit which was pretty cool of them.)

They also Chuck in the HTC Media Link as a freebie which was a big plus in my opinion.

I already have an o2 contract which I want to keep and wanted to get this deal as it practically pays for itself without having to pay for the phone outright:

£110 (Phone Cost) + £36 x12 Months (£432) = £542 -£35 Cashback = £507 (!!!)

I reckon it is a pretty damned good price!

Alty, any idea if the handset is operator branded, i.e. can you run any sim in it?

The general consensus seems that being a 3rd Party, Dial a Phone seem to release unlocked/operator unbranded handsets. The worst case scenario for me is I simply send it back under their 7 Day Returns Policy if it is operator locked altho there are plenty of people whom have ordered from them previously and claimed that they are not locked so that is a good sign :)

Sigh called up 3 and the best they can offer for the HTC One S is what's on the site to every new customer...great.

Currently paying £15/m for 750m 3000txt 2gb internet on one of their old 12 month tarrifs, normal price was £40/m but i got £20 loyalty discount and another £5 off. A couple of years ago I could still get a new phone, at first it was free, then they started charging me about £100, which I was happy to pay as I was still on a 12 month contract.

Now been told that I will NEVER be able to get a new phone on this tarrif, so Im basically on a sim-only deal..(!) I might as well just get the 3 sim only with 600 mins/3k text/ 1gb data for 12 months for £12/m and only £5/m after cashback, but this 12 month contract Im on ends in July so might as well wait till then.

Told them all this but made no difference, they wouldnt budge, even got my PAC code off them. Currently using OMC which Im happy with but always wanted a HTC..just need to see if its cheaper to buy it sim free and stay on sim only plan or start paying the £33/m they want on a 24 month contract hmm..

Been offered the One S at £28 for 600 mins, unlimited texts and 1gb net. It's alright but I really don't need all those minutes, that was Orange via Dial-A-Phone.

I guess I'll give Orange a call and see if they'll match a new T-Mobile contract @ £21 a month.

Yea its looking like HTC is returning to its better phone design. Nice inudstrial look and feel. Still not happy with Samsungs materials i know its a cliche but mt SGS2 really does feel cack even compared to my mates Desire Z.

Sense i can take or leave , Touchwjz for GB was fine but it looks like they have totaly ruined ICS with Touchqiw as Samsung are too scraed of scaring all there none tech savy customers with a different interface, Ive grown to really hate Touchqiz 2bh

If the SGSIII turns out to be an absolute monster i can justs ell the OneX and buy a sim free SGS3

Just wish they would announce the S3, so I can compare the two. Personally, for all the Sense hate, Touchwiz is a lot worse. Would prefer it this time if I could have a phone which doesn't imediately require a different launcher running over the top.

If there's not too much hardware difference between the S3 and this, I'm definitely getting this.

As people have said above, Sense is a lot better than TouchWiz. And even if I grow to hate sense 4 (impossible, it's so smooth! :D) then I can at least flash Cyanogenmod or MIUI

Can someone please explain to me the whole deal with touchwiz? Is it just a launcher like EX Launcher? so if u install a different one like EX it has no detrimental effect, or is it something thats using up system resources regardless and ur only hiding it by using a diff launcher?

Have never quite gotten my head around the diff launchers, whether you are just hiding one or actually substituting it.

They also all look exactly the same to me, icons along bottom of phone so what is it thats so bad about one vs another? All look the same to me i am missing something fundamental am sure.

Yup you are completely! :p

Firstly it isn't just the launcher/homescreens which is touchwiz, but the entire UI is, you name it, the calendar, the notification bar, the system menus, all the icons are all styled differently to every other skin, but essentially they are all the same regarding their placements.

The same goes for sense, which is obviously used only on HTC mobiles. Same for sony, same for motorola etc.

However, since this is android, you can install 3rd party apps that can be used instead, they don't replace the stock launcher etc. The main thing about these 3rd party apps is choice as to how you want things to be, be it icons, colours of icons, number of homescreens, features like folders for apps (that is all mainly for a launcher) etc. etc.

The stock launcher will not use resources if you don't run it all and have a 3rd party one running instead, same for apps, if you don't use/open them, they won't use any processing power etc. they will only take up the internal storage space.

And some apps are also faster/smoother than others and the stock stuff.

And they don't really look the same at all, they are just similar, just like every other touch device that has icons etc.

Look through this thread and you can do the same on any android device pretty much.
