720p SAMOLED/+ over LCD anyday - unless LCD's can get perfect blacks.

Surely general sharpness and realistic colour quality are more important than perfect blacks? I don't get it. :p

On another note, the early camera samples I've seen don't look great... :(

The new sAMOLED+ will need to be very good to beat LGs AH-IPS overall, typical power consumption is almost half compared to the current sAMOLED range. (another reason I'm gutted the S doesn't come with a low power IPS)

Why won't the new HD sAMOLED/+ be very good? Power consumption is fine on the SGS2 - I can live with that.

If the screen is Pentile it won't be as sharp no - but as seen on the Nexus it's still plenty sharp. Coulours while very saturated - I like it - makes pictures and video look better than they are.

Perfect blacks add a high level of satisfaction to they eye (eye candy) - especially in my phonebook and message app where my backgound is black and the text just looks like its floating and the borders of the screen blend into the phone's black facia. Pure eye candy - that is all.

And when you turn the brightness all they way up on an LCD - the balcks are very grey - not on an OLED screen still perfect black.

It'll be fantastic, all screens are these days! The rest is just armchair one-upmanship :D

It could just be a case of people getting over enthusiastic with the instant capture mode, like early samples from the GN.

More worrying is the current video samples on youtube... they're all utter tripe. I haven't seen judder like that for years!
Let's hope it's software optimisation and not inherent hardware issue with HTCs ImageChip (i.e. lack of bandwidth for smooth, constant bit rates at 1080p)

I expect the S3 to be better but only marginally. This looks like an all round excellent phone. It's not enough to tempt me away from my Note though. :p

Really torn between this and the note. Love size and style of the note but feel.like I should go for the newer tech. Wish was a 5.3 version damn it! Lol

Looks like the waiting is nearly over, I've just looked at the handtec website and they are showing the phone as "in stock - dispatching back orders 3rd April"

Roll on Wednesday I say, I'm looking forward to having a new toy :D

Just upgraded through Phones 4 U :D

Unlimited minutes, unlimited texts and 1gb of data for £36 a month on 02 :D :D

Delivery date is 6th but he said it could come a day either side so here is hoping for 5th :D :D :D

Also told him I wouldn't take the deal unless he threw in the media link you get free with the pre orders and I now have a media link too :D :D :D :D

Hmm, think I'll hold off for a while.

1080p video is confirmed as shocking bad, easily the worst quality output we've seen for a few years! :D Fps/Mbps are all over the shop usually averaging 4.5Mbps and 20fps. The profile is [email protected] too :(

Why did they release this phone now? It's clearly not ready for prime time.

It's a nice phone but it seems HTC have dropped the ball in a few key areas (such as the video recording reports).

The screen seems superb though, so that's good.

Surely some software optimisations would fix that though? HTC probably rushing to get it out before the S3 makes an appearance so they can snaffle a majority of the market, or those looking to upgrade from the desire.

I think the s3 will win out on the whole, no specs, no teasers etc from sammy as of yet but given the level of success the s2 has enjoyed they really will want to push ever further. Gf's contract is up in may think I'll advise her to hold out a little longer.

Amazing looking screen on this though.

I can't see this being that much better then the Note. From these early reports I reckon the Note will have the better camera, video recorder and battery, it also has a memory card slot. Not sure how the gfx or cpus compare but I don't think there will be that much in it. The Note just needs ICS now as the finishing touch to an almost perfect device, imo ofcourse.

When will HTC learn and make the camera good, all this talk of how fast it can take pictures and the video is meant to be average at best.

All that lets the note down is the size its like having a brick in ya pocket, you would almost feel like Don Jolly with his big phone in trigger happy tv.

Yep, just watch all the juddery videos people are uploading to youtube, someone on XDA has posted the output file info too. The ISP chip is powerful enough, even if it can't do high profile entropy encoding like Exynos/OMAP4.
It'll be unfinished firmware, a bad batch or HTC messed up trying to reduce file sizes (The One S only has ~10GB available for storage :()

The 'soft menu button' is a messy solution too, can't they just map it to a capacitive button with a long press?

If the video is as bad as people are making out im going to cancel my order

If you take video regularly then I'd cancel and see what happens, otherwise go ahead and enjoy

I very very rarely record video so I'm still in. That's still assuming t-mobile would like to announce any plans direct with them at some point this century.
