*** The official HTC One X thread ***

I would actually say that sense V4 is more consistent/unified than stock ICS (IMO)

What do you mean by the settings menu, app drawer etc.?

They are more or less the same (especially the settings menu), just a different colour scheme and slight change in the UI.

Besides apex and nova are pretty much exactly the same as the stock launcher but are far better overall anyway.

The majority of the stock apps etc. for HTC sense and Samsung touchwiz, usually have every feature that stock android has and then a few more features on top as well.

Cm10 for this is so amazing, seriously screw android skins unless the next nexus is total fail I don't want to deal with either touchwizz or sense . Jelly bean is at the level of iOS in terms of fluidity and feel imo

I've had both phones and ultimately kept my HOX and sent back both my SGS3s both were plagued with black crushing and blue tint on any angle it became apparent and highly frustrating but that's the nature of an AMOLED screen. The HOX still satisfies my daily needs, the screen is just awesome even in this sun we've had the outdoor visibility is excellent, even when I was on holiday in Turkey last month the visibility was fine in direct sunshine and it even got heated up in the sun but no ill effects.

Sense is just excellent I know stock android is good but I like the social network integration and contact management which is the best on an UI. I don't care for any of the widgets its just little features that make Sense better than the likes of TouchWiz but this is truly subjective.

My only gripe would be battery life but I get a full working day out of it anyway.

Waiting for Jelly Bean to see how that pans out, and waiting for the Note 2 and next Nexus device before I make any jumps.

For now I'm still happy with the HOX and glad I chose to keep it over the SGS3 making a loss wasn't worth it for me as they are generally on par.

HOS boys in the house!

Pfft, the stock ICS/JB launcher is as useful as a waterproof teabag. Why have the widgets in the app draw? It makes no Sense©
I'm not a huge fan but Sense 4 is WAY more useful than stock still. Esp now you can turn most of the extra features/bloat off, like the Skydrive integration.

Can't wait for this 4.0.4 update, any HOX owners got a OTA yet?

;)
it's just the actual shell more than anything else. I suppose you could call it the 'industrial design' if you wanted to be all precious about it :) That's why I liked the One X - it feels sturdy and more premium than your average Samsung jobby. The HD7 was the same.

Just say it! The SGS3 is just nasty to look at and touch, yuck! :D (The HD7 was fairly bad tbh, newer HTC aluminium designs like the Titan and HOS are miles better)

Is the One X a big enough jump from the Sensation for me to want to jump into an 18 month contract with one in October, or should I just GiffGaff it up for a few months and wait for the next 'big thing'?

Wait a until the end of the year, there's some monster phones around the corner!
All quad core A9 phones feel so slow compared to the Krait powered One S. It loads/views OS tiles in viewranger like a desktop, the others still perform like decent phones. Personally I'd never go back to something slow like the SGS3

It's actually quite nice to touch, not slippery and sits nicely in the hand.

It's not going to win any awards for looks, but it's easy to look past some aesthetic flaws when you consider how much better the rest of it is.

Not sure if serious when you say it's slow... it's just as quick as the S, if not quicker.

(If all of your posts were tongue in cheek, then ignore all of that. :p)

Lol Sarge :D

@Broken Hope

Yeah the stock sense launcher app drawer is a fair bit different, you don't have the widgets stuff like stock but apex and nova is all you need ;) Should give it a try, exactly the same as stock but way more features, you can't add widgets from the app drawer from the drawer though unless rooted (agree with sarge on this though, think it is rather pointless :p)

The settings menu is pretty much exactly the same same as sense/touchwiz, just different colour scheme and the accounts isn't quite the same either.

I do love the colour scheme/theme of stock ICS

I think sense looks more "pretty" though :o :p

I do actually use Nova and with Jelly Bean I can add widgets from the app drawer.

Most of it was tongue in cheek :p ...but the ViewRanger example is true. It runs like a laptop on the One S, over twice as fast compared to phones like the Exynos SGS3.
(fingers crossed for cortex A15, 1GB and a bigger screen in the new iPhone. It runs slightly better on iOS last time I checked)

^
Of course! I've still got my first gen, use iTunes and own quite a few iOS apps :o
Apple really needs to improve value for money for me to switch back. At least iOS 6 includes free sat nav... maybe add two years free 20GB iCloud/iTunes match with 16-32GB extra internal storage for the same price?

Right.....

This radio problem that we've been on about on and off both here and XDA....

I've had all sorts of ROMs on the One X over the last few weeks, and I'm currently running an AOSP 4.1.1 release which is pretty awesome, it has to be said. Anyway, I've got a stretch of road between my house and the local Asda that always caused the app I use to monitor signal to have a fit. Some ROMs would report that the phone was in 'emergency only' mode and other ROMs would simply report no signal. Always on this stretch of road. Always.

Anyway, tonight I got bored and set off on the same journey but placed a call beforehand. I wanted to see if that call dropped as I drove along, to see if it was actually dropping the signal or not.

To cut a long story mildly shorter, the call worked fine. It didn't drop at all.

So, I'm now wondering whether the thing is reporting its radio state incorrectly, which would explain why I get different errors depending on the ROM I use.

Anyone got any thoughts?

These signal problems are really bad now, tempted to go back to my HTC Sensation.

I've tried a different rom (ARHD on the 2.05 base) and it's the same, switching to E and 3G, data cutting out completely at times, just unreliable.

I have a One X (and a One S still :D ) It's unlocked but I'm on a Three UK contract. On stock I was finding it would drop signal quite often and would sometimes not bother to reconnect? A reboot would sort it. I've since loaded up the ViperX rom and although it still drops signal will always connect again pretty smartish and never reboot or airplane mode to reconnect. Does it when signal is good outside. Sometimes keeps connection but drops data. I sometimes go to make a call and there is no signal (Emergancy calls only - how does that work with no connection  ) though give it 30secs and it's good to go. Never seem to miss any calls?

I recently acquired a PAYG T-Mobile sim. Reception is about the same in the One X as the Three sim but it NEVER seems to drop connection??? Both sims generally sit on around 2 bars in the house, the Three signal if anything is stronger of the two. Other thing I've noticed indoors with One X and Three is that it drops signal a lot less when wifi is disconnected. It's as if as long as data is in use then signal will not drop. I've found the same for voice calls and have taken 30min + calls in the house and never dropped connection, infact never dropped a call. None of this helps I guess?

Overall though the One X has better signal reception here, than the One S I originally started the Three contract with. I may have shot myself in the foot moving from T-Mobile to Three but all considered the One X with Three is OK. The signal dropping is an annoyance but not too much of a deal breaker yet. I'll also say signal reception was always a lot better on a Motorola Defy + but not going down that road again :D:D

Is 3G supposed to be really slow? When my data connection switched to 3G it might as well have no connection because nothing loads until it switched back to H.

When I first got my phone I had no problems, tried different roms, different bases, seems like possibly a hardware problem now.
