*** The official HTC One X thread ***

I've just had a play with both the S and the X, and disliked both of them!
The ICS key configuration they've used for the hardware buttons looks awful, and other than the gorgeous screen I can't find a thing that would persuade me from my Sensation.
Maybe I've been spoiled by AOSP though

Stunning screen. Great performance. Loved sense 4.

But the phone felt cheap and light in a similar way that the Galaxy S2 did :(

Really disappointed as I loved the rest of it and can't see anything else on the market. Why didn't they stick with the metal case instead of polycarbonate :( the rubbery finish was ok but.. sigh.

Didn't try the One S then?

Had a play with one in the Vodafone store earlier today and was very impressed with the screen and the quality of the finish on the Polycarbonate. Didn't really like Sense though, the app draw looked cluttered with the options at the bottom; I mean if I wanted to access a favourite app, I would just put it on my home screen...

I might get one is XDA have some fully working AOSP builds that still take advantage of the image chip and other proprietary features.

Damn, I hated the S2 as it felt cheap...Will have to get to a shop and check the One X out in the flesh.

Not sure if i should hold out and see what the Galaxy S3 has to offer, I'm due an early upgrade from Orange, but they never give out any good deals or loyalty discounts on the early upgrades...

I have been tracking this thread for a good few days now, as well as other sources of info about the one s and one x. I have been awaiting these phones ever since they had code names, Edge/endevour for the one x and codename Ville for the one s (codenames should sound cooler). For months i have been contemplating which to get, in the end I did some haggling with o2 and ordered the one s (black), i was told tuesday delivery.

12 month contract @ £42 per month
600 mins
750 data
unlimited texts

£70 upfront for the phone, they initially quoted me £150.

Reason i chose the one s?

well as i said it was a tough delibiration between the two, both seem like great handsets, but in the end i sacrificed a better screen and bigger internal memory for slightly better battery life and better build quality. and thanks to my 12 month contract I can re-evaluate things about 9 months from now ( i thnk i can upgrade 3 months early :-D )

See loads of people going for thisd phone in "iPhone White". Really had no intention of getting anything that resembled such a "product" so how is it looking in Grey?

You're saying you'd resist getting any phone in white purely because iPhones come in that colour?

Seriously, get a grip

Where's the cheapest place to get this simfree unlocked then? 3 have it for £449 PAYG but I'm guessing that might be locked.

it looks to be going for about £479 sim free instore at CPW - which is really tempting me to trade in my iPhone and pick it up. Wish S3 info would even come out

^^^ not great to show a white phone on a white background for size comparison :p

While you're right about that the X is surprisingly small... It's only slightly bigger (couple of mm wider and about 5mm longer) than my Omnia 7 with 4" screen, the S is almost identical in size. It's practically identical in size to the GS2 as well.

I tried a real one yesterday (thanks for those shops that now have real phones on display!) and it was nothing like the GS2. The GS2 looks like loads of bits of plastic stuck together while the X feels light but solid, just a single piece of plastic (obviously). The S looked and feeled worse IMO because of the plastic bits at either end. Not sure about the faded black look both are carrying though.:(

There was a post a few pages back that said there was a contract phone that could be had for about £380 all in. May be worth a look as well as it appears cheaper than sim free/payg.

EDIT:

If you want to jump through a hoop or two to reduce cost.

I'm not really interested in this phone but for those who want it sim free, here is one option which I assume is cheaper then buying it on payg:

Go to o2 site through quidco for £50 cashback.
Find HTC One X, 24 months, 100mb data, £13.50 /month and buy for £180.
Cancel data bolt-on brings it down to £10.50 per month.

Total Cost = £180 - £50 + (24 x £10.50) = £382

Obviously throw away the sim and use your own.

And a question about this. If you cancel your contract and pay it off (can you do this straight away?) would it not be even cheaper due to paying no VAT on the contract? If so that would work out at around £330-340...
