*** The official HTC One X thread ***

There's nothing that makes use of 4xA9 cores better than 2xKrait cores. The difference between A9 and Krait is relatively massive (much bigger than krait vs A15).

And the Adreno 225 is substantially more power than Geforce ULP.

I don't think the IPC improvement from A9 to Krait is as big as we have seen. Linpack and like are showing massive improvements bordering 100% gains. We stopped using such benchmarks on PCs a long time ago as they are notoriously unreliable.

225 substantially better than Geforce ULP? It's better I agree but for gpu accelerated UI both are adequate. So depends on how much weight you want to give that aspect.

Then we have the much bigger memory bandwidth and more superior Video encoder.

Why is Krait's MPE better? I'd bet Tegra 3 can push higher bitrate video in a non hardware accelerated mode. Should be easy to test actually.

To top it off its 45nm vs 28nm.

You just cannot compare current Gen to next Gen ARM processor/SoC - much different to Intels incremental yearly updates.

The PC processor market has a lot of history and the way the chips work is ultimately very similar and current desktop computing is what mobiles are gradually reaching towards. The performance questions are similar and software development will be similar (well actually I'd have thought it'll have a head start on smartphones).

I'm talking from a programming point of view. While I may not be anal like you about phone technology I certainly know about multi threaded programming.

Your point earlier was that Tegra 3 would last the test of time better than the S4?

Which is totally wrong. End of story.

There's no anal-ness here, just facts - and facts cut through BS.

Had my One X for a couple of days, pleased so far.
But, tonight I've started seeing visual artefacts - brightness changing when loading web pages, and lots of small lines leading in from the left edge of the screen when navigating between tasks on the Recent Apps browser and right now actually all the time on the left of the quick post message box :(

Anyone had or heard of anything similar? Screen's been on for an hour and a half but I would expect it to.cope with that.

Developing fault worth getting a replacement for?

Sorry missed your post completely.

Better GPU for better 3D games - edit: depending if they use the same clock speed as in the asus transformer prime the GPU's will be pretty equal

Better video encoder for better Videocamera performance - the compression on the One X is horrid - so it the stutters and shakiness.

There's just no way Tegra 3 is better than the S4.

Like I said it's is a subjective point about how much weight you give it and it is the only point I concede.

Well the video camera in the One X and One S are using their own chips I believe. I know the still shots are offloaded and I suspect the video is as well.

Better video encoder? Poor compression? The hardware encoder on Tegra 3 (if it isn't being bypassed by the "imagesense" chip) will not be at fault for the poor video on the One X as it is supposed to be twice as good as in Tegra 2 and that did 1080p video in base profile fine. It is very likely a software problem.

you can use some stickers, like these, or the tags that come with the xperia and using an app, program them to make certain actions happen. You can also use it to send files, and read information from NFC enabled items, for example, you can read NFC ID cards such as those provided by my uni.

That looks good, how do i program the tags? For example to add one in the car to switch to blackbox software and mute calls?

All this arguing about internals is going a bit far now!

The One X has plenty of power, okay, for some things it may not have been the optimal choice but any lag and slow down is going to come from software optimisation failure and not a lack of hardware power.

It's honestly not an issue (for 99.9% of folk). I'd like it to have cutting edge internals but it is almost irrelevant when they are this good anyway.

I took a video pages back using ICS Camera+ from the market and the video was fine, much better than using the htc camera interface and I even doubled the bit rate using it, I think its just a software fix that will be sorted easily.
