5.1.1 restores straight back over the top of 6, just shift (or alt in OSX) click restore in iTunes and select the IPSW.

Really? I was under the impression you couldn't downgrade iOS at all on any device?

No probs :) To be honest, I don't use the Maps app too much - But it still isn't good enough for the times I do use it... I'm hoping for Google to bring out their own app...

This was a company run by a CEO who had sleepless nights over the fact that the yellow in the original Google icon was the incorrect shade.... what has happened to their attention to detail?

Their attention to detail is still there in other places of the iOS. For example, the new mail refresh animation, and when you're in the music app, as you tilt your phone the shine on the volume knobs move :p

Not everyone is perfect :p

I lost about an hour there at lunchtime.

The amount of epic fail with the mapping data is impressive. Most of the POIs round here are years out of date and the postcode search is returning pushpins that's about quarter of a mile out. Glad I've got CoPilot.

Can someone try and use Genius in the App Store on iPhone?
On both my 4 and my 4S it just crashes the App Store.

Good news folks!

If you’re missing Google Maps after updating to iOS 6 over the past 24-hours, good news may be just around the corner. As previously rumored, The Guardian suggests this afternoon that the folks at Google have built a separate Maps app for iOS 6. The report further adds that the company it will “appear in time”, to which well-known developer Steve Stroughton-Smith seemingly confirmed with a “Yep.”.

based on what i've seen, they could charge and people would still pay for it, especially if they incorporate their own new features now they're not restricted by apple (so to speak)
