*** The Official iPad (Early 2012) Thread ***

Yeah I'm the same I think these devices are frankly crap for gaming unless it's a tower defence type of game or strategy, board games etc. I've bought and tried loads of driving and shooters and it just doesn't work for me.

I'm not the only one then!
I think the game I've played the most on mine is some Tower Defence game that was free. The graphics are rubbish, but it's great.

I actually found that I sort of dropped off playing games on it once the 'honeymoon period' was over. I only tend to play them now when I go travelling.

Infinity Blade, which is the one Apple like to tout certainly looks great, but it's not got much substance, you just randomly flick the screen like a nutter.

It's certainly the 3D games that are where the extra power will be of main use, that's pretty much what Engadget's hands-on concluded too.

2048 x 1536 is wasteful for that size screen?

No it's required to be classed as a 'Retina Display'. It has so many pixels crammed into such a small place that you can't physically see a pixel (Unless you held it up close, and even then you'd probably have trouble :p). It makes for very easy reading :)

I just don't get it.

I've always been a geek when it comes to gadgets but I couldn't care less about this. I felt the same when the 4S came out. There's not really anything new, is there? It's more of an upgrade. Sure, I bet the retina display is absolutely stunning but Apple's releases in the past year or so have just lacked the 'Wow' factor that we're used to. When the iPhone 4 came out, everyone was blown away. I'm not feeling it with the new iPad.

I'll probably wait another year. For me an iPad is completely unnecessary and more of a toy to play with and before I can justify spending a good £500 on one I want to be completely blown away by it.

The "it's because you can't afford it" comments are almost as cringe inducing as the trolling. I keep seeing that Harry Enfield character, "I'm considerably richer than you!" ;)

Possible, but not probable. simply because 95% of the arguments against are based neither on facts nor experiences; i.e. trolling.

How can one argue about the screen, if they have not seen it yet?

How can one argue about the processor, if they have not used it yet?

When you take facts (things that are always truth) and experiences (things that you observe to be true) out of the equation all that is left is emotions.

Human beings tend to "rationalise" emotions to create a "reality" they are "happy with", so "I cannot afford this" becomes "There has to be a reason I do not need to afford this".

Harsh, but this is what I observe is happening.

I will be getting the black 32gb model but still unsure on networking version.

Any thoughts?

Guess i'll get a smart cover along with it too.

For those who have an iPad/iPad 2 16gb

I can't decide between the 16gb and 32gb and the last thing I want to do a couple of months down the line is regret not getting the 32.

Have you found 16gb to be adequate? I filled my iPhone 16gb quite easily, but having never had an iPad I don't know whether I will use it in the same way.

I was thinking the extra 16gb would be useful for movies as well.

Not sure what to do tbh.

I've never had an iPad before either but I do have a 64gb iPhone

I like having a large selection of music on my phone but thinking that with iTunes in the Cloud I can just stream whatever music I want onto the iPad so don;t need to actually store it all on there so I think the 32gb will be best for me over the 64. I do like to ahve movies and photos on my device though

When I got my ipad I just about stopped using the phone for anything other than audio books and the odd app. The space on the pad is much more valuable to me than the space on the phone. I could get away with a 8gb phone but couldn't get away with a 16gb ipad, especially not one that will play higher res. With films, music and apps I'd be forever deleting stuff with 16gb personally.

Everyone will be different, my pad made my phone more redundant. For you it might not be the same :)

Get the biggest you can afford.

I can fill my 64GB iPad 2 pretty easily.
Apps take up a fair chunk, as do videos if you put a good few on for a trip or whatever.

I'd also add that I'd echo a lot of what Danny says above.
With my iPhone, I tend to carry music I really like or listen to regularly.
Apps that I know I use and games I play. I don't bother with videos on it anymore.

With the iPad I could hold my entire music collection if I need too.

I filled my 32gb iPhone 3gs no problem which is why I got the 64gb 4s when that was released.

I think 32gb will be fine for an iPad for me

I've had 16 gb iPad and iPhone never filled them.

I just filled my pants:rolleyes:, plugged mrs ipad 2 in and it updated to 5.1 then bricked:mad:, praise be it had backed up to cloud and worked second time around.
I am still not sure if i am going to bother with a 3, might just pick up a cheap 2 32Gb as not sure it is that big a jump, especially as i would not play games on it.

Well I've budgeted for the 16gb, but could stretch to the 32gb. I could always stream all my music through iCloud though... hmm, decisions.

I think that 32GB is the 'safe bet' iPad and 16GB is the one to get if you know it's just for browsing and so forth.

As people have said, you should aim to get the best one you can afford but generally 32GB should suffice for most people.
