*** The Official iPad (Early 2012) Thread ***

Well, I'll be hitting the sack soon. If its not back up before midnight, I guess I'll be waking up tomorrow to no stock :(

Your line of work sounds quite specialist? I doubt many people would see the benefit in this..?

Maybe, but given what I perceive to be a large part of the demographic, I would think they do.
Anyone who is s in "web" development/requirements/experience design - be it applications accessed via thin client, Websites, Ecommerce and so forth... will mostly welcome better resolutions with open arms.

Seriously though, if you don't have an ipad2. Would be a good buy but those of us who have an ipad2. Really? It's just buying for the sake of having the latest version. Vanity in its finest form. I might pitch that to Apple as their new slogan... :D

So what is a valuable upgrade? Going from an iPad 2 to a '3' would only cost about £120, not the £400 you keep saying.

They've massively improved the the main part of the device, increased the speed and added other bits.

I wonder if YouTube and similar sites like Vimeo will start offering up 1536p videos?

I've seen some 4k videos so they could easily be downsampled if there was the option to.

Even if 1536p isn't considered a standard, it will be interesting to see if 1440p videos start to appear now that more people are going to be getting screens that offer a better resolution than 1080p?

Also having a higher res screen will be nice for remote desktop software such as splashtop.

I've tried to run things like Ableton using a 1024x768 display, and while it's functional, it's far from ideal...

from my view they just done maxs as i know hardware very well

oced cpu maybe 1.5 best option in my opinion as quad core a9 will need to much battery a15 (28nm) soc is not ready yet

second they got sgx 543mp4 gpu its quad core and used by ps vita

third retina is just brilliant

and ram of course 1gb

that is maxs

as battery they needed more battery power so increased it to 43mw

this is just beginig of new era

if u can wait one year i will say what ipad 4 will get.

it will get 4 core a15 soc

it will get powerVR rogue gpu which is 20 times faster tham mp4

i can guaratee that ipad 4 will have console like graphics

personally me i have the money so just sold ipad 2 and get ipad 3 after year i will sell ipad 3 and get ipad 4

what android has nothing to compare they will never get powerVR chips and always use tegra 3 which even loosing on sgx543mp2

so androzavrs andro dinosaurs just calm down

Good thing the store hasn’t worked tonight because in the cold light of day I’ve talked myself out of buying one. :p:D

I think what people have to understand, which is probably more aimed at those who don't currently own an iPad, is that the iPad 2 screen is good, the fact that there is a new better screen doesn't suddenly make it somehow useless. It will still do what it has done for the past year, which I've never once looked at and thought was bad, quite the opposite, it's been fantastic.

I'm quite happy to use mine for another year, when we all know that this time next year they will be announcing a better one.

Unlike some people on here, I'm not going to judge somebody if they decide to upgrade though, it's your money, spend it how you want to.

The majority of the users aren't going to be getting the benefits you do from the upgrade. Most of its users will be using it purely for surfing the interweb and watching the odd movie on it.

If its going to be used for work then yeah an upgrade would be worth it. If you are buying one for the first time, then yes it would be worth it.

If you have an ipad2 that you use to surf the interweb...really do I need to justify it any further?

Its like advising someone to upgrade their home computer to the latest all singing and dancing CPU's and graphics cards for using word and excel.

I am not knocking the quality of Apple as I own them myself but this release should be called ipad2s ;)

1440p and 1600p make up a tiny % of monitors in people's homes - it's still all about 1080p for the forseeable future, until 4k TV starts rolling out. Vast majority of video is just going to be 1080p 16:9 or one of the widescreen movie ratios for the time being. Until then it's big black borders. 2k monitors have been out for ages and bar games you don't really see anything for them. Even when Apple start doing 4k res macs (retina at typical viewing distance!) it'll still be TV dictating the resolution of video.

Exactly, someone who sees sense. Completely agree.

Get the ipad2s or wait for the ipad4? I know what I would do.

I don't think this is all about video. You're telling me you can tell the difference between a 720p video and a 1536p video on a 9.7-inch screen?

This is all about sharpness of text, line art (e.g. games, models) and UI elements.

Like the iPad 2 should have been called the iPad 1.5 ;)

Think its fairly obvious if you miss a apple cycle of said product its worth the upgrade if you upgrade every time on said product well its your money :p

Not going to happen.
1080p is the maximum HD resolution now and for the foreseeable future.

You've got to remember it's governed largely by what people can shoot with, which for 99% of people is a maximum of 1080, and while computer screens have always offered huge resolutions, televisions are still a maximum of 1080.

I don't believe that on a technology forum people are trying to play down the importance of the screen on tablet, a device which is all about the screen.

The fact you think this is a small upgrade is strange, why is it small? What could have made it a 'worthy' upgrade?

Nobody has answered that question which means people are either trolling or trying to play down the importance of it as they can't justify getting one. Simple.
