*** The Official iPad (Early 2012) Thread ***

Won't put them in tags as they are big pics but here's a nice comparison of the screens.

Nice pic :) I'm so excited to see this in real life :)

I take it then, that current iPad 2 screen protectors will be fine for the new iPad?

I shall have to order some then.

To be totally honest beasty, they look pretty much the same or have I got poor vision?

The iPad 3 is sharper. I don't have problems reading on the iPad 2 at the moment. I think this may be one of those things you only realise once you can see both side by side.

The new iPad... not iPad 3..? Hrhrhr.

C'mon Apple raise the bar, it's an original iPad with a better processor, screen and camera. iPad 3D would have been pretty cool with a 3DS style lenticular display.

As an Apple user I'm getting increasingly sick of their product updates. I bought an iPhone 4 last year, still really happy with it, would I buy a 4S, not a chance. I have a 2008 MBP which I adore, though I'm not getting on with Lion (had it installed a month or so now).

I consider myself a Pro user (C4D, After Effects, Premiere, Logic etc) but the delayed arrival of the new Mac Pro, extortionate prices for the MBP I want and my experiences with Lion are all pushing me away from the brand I used to once love.

Do you need the latest iteration though?
I think with the iPhone and iPad it makes most sense to upgrade every other new product. That way you are getting a greater array of new features and it doesn't leave your product starting to loose support. Of course people will still upgrade because they want to, but I'm sure they could also survive without.

This has probably been said a million times but how come we pay £399 ($630) and the yanks pay $499 for the base model? It's exactly the same thing and we pay $130 more. Gotta love that price structure!

You're probably right with regards to upgrade, but I have to disagree with your features comment. Ultimately all the iPad and iPhone products have largely exactly the same features, the only difference being the specs they carry them out with.

I can't think of many different features between the iPhone range... perhaps the compass and Siri...

As for iPad, I've never owned one, but I'd imagine it's the same story.

Import taxes and VAT will be a big portion of that... it's the same for all tech.

I wouldn't be surprised if Apple made less money on the ipads in the UK to get it *down* to that price :o

don't they have to pay state tax though?

Plus our VAT is now 20% not apples fault, they make the same margins in every country IIRC. It's the government.

Agreed, people need to exercise self control. The iPad and iPhone really only deserve to be upgraded once every two years. The annual jump is never big enough to warrant the upgrade.

iPad to iPad 3 makes sense
iPhone 3gs to iPhone 4s makes sense
etc.

I have a 2011 13" macbook pro (feb) upgraded to 8gb and 500gb momentus XT. I was thinking about selling in anticipation of a new line, but then i though about it and really...CS5 Premiere and After Effects run sweetly and I just sat and re evaluated upgrade reasoning. Unless my needs change, I shouldn't upgrade.... hence why I still have a Samsung Galaxy S (1) mobile phone tech hasn't moved on enough to justify the upgrade....(but i will buy the next iPhone) :)
