*** The Official iPad (Early 2012) Thread ***

lol - slower, hotter, heavier, thicker, less battery, 4G that can't be used.

Awesome!
Slower how?
Keep your hands warm, I've noticed mine get quite warm from what I remember my ipad 1 to be, it will be in a case anyway.

For me it's lighter and thinner, either way it's not heavy or thick.. I thought the battery was the same. And hardly Apples fault that UK is behind on 4G ;)

Its the sheep following the flock :D

Happy with my unsluggish ipad 2 and my rooted xoom with ICS!! :D

It says a lot about someone if they are happy with a Xoom. :p

How is it useless? I'd have thought people would want to know the short-comings of the product.

I've actually got one thanks - waiting at home for when I get out of work. :o

Don't you think people are aware of those things? All you seem to do is complain about everything, and then you've still bought one (so you say).

I was using Mocha RDP and 1280 x 1024 was an improvement, just been using Splashtop though which allows higher resolutions
Ummm, I use Splashtop.

800*600, 1024*768 (default) or use computer's native display settings (this didn't really work, when remoting into my 1920*1080 monitor)

Also just noticed a small chip in the aluminium on the top corner near the power button. I haven't done it so it must have been there when it arrived. Looks in worse condition than my 11 month old iPad 2!

Not sure whether to take it to Apple and have it swapped for another.

If you paid 100% of the price, then why wouldn't you want 100% of the product. When you think that after a full week after the pre-order date they still have plenty in stock, they must have been going full belt in the factory. Maybe a few will slip past apples QA

Looks like some online stores are having issues, I'd be a bit annoyed if I ordered an iPad and this turned up:

One thing I've found so far... after using the iPad for a bit and then using my 4S, it feels absolutely tiny! I never felt it was small until today, and I guess it's due to the way iOS, bar the layout within apps is the same across the two devices.

The weight and thickness are non-issues given I haven't had a tablet before, and it's lighter and thinner than the first iPad so people upgrading from that wouldn't notice either. Given the battery is about 70% bigger or something, ultimately it's down to battery tech. They've crammed the great whopping screen in, all the added graphics power and it should make it through the day as well as the previous iterations.

Already decided I need a stand too - specifically something that can work on a desk or on my lap lol.

Got mine about 3 hours ago, restore my settings and did some quick tests.

Took my iPad 2 and iPad Gen 3 to the office next door, had 5 members of staff around the table and asked them......spot the difference.......and you know what….they couldn’t tell. They said the iPad 2 and iPad Gen 3 looked the same. Which is true, until I pointed out to them, if they looked closely at the number 16 on the calendar, the iPad Gen 3 displays the number clearer and less pixelated.

My verdict along with the other members of staff about this “Super High Res Screen” Apple bang on about. Yes the screen is better but you should be able to clearly tell the difference between the current iPad and previous iPad screen without someone else having to point it out to you. Its not like you are going from at SD TV to HD TV, the difference isn’t big enough.

Second quick test was the camera. Clearly we could see a difference there without a doubt. Fair play, can’t knock Apple for the camera for those who use it. Photo quality is great!

Finally, I tried Sonic Racing for gaming. Not the best game to try but might aswell. Ran side by side on the iPad 2 and iPad Gen 3. It played exactly the same on both devices, loading times, performance in speed all the same. The only difference was the iPad Gen 3 contrast was brighter, obviously due to the newly designed screen. I will try Infinity Blade 2 later when I get back home but I expect the same.

So if anyone is on iPad 2 and thinking about upgrading, don’t bother is not worth it, unless devs starting doing major upgrades to their applications to show what the iPad Gen 3 can really do. Even then, I’m sure it will only been shown in application which render 3D due to the dual core graphics chip.

I only paid £315 new for my iPad 2 before Christmas plus got £15 cash back and it’s sold now for £245. So buying the iPad Gen 3 for £400 doesn’t bother me as I didn’t folk out loads for it the iPad 2 and put toward the 3, otherwise I would be disappointed.

Final note, its not that much heavier than the iPad 2, only slightly but not arm tiring heavy.

People must have poor eyesight! Obviously 2ft away it looks the same but when held at a typical distance, the difference between the updated and non-updated apps isn't subtle at all.

Quite tempted to repalce my ipad2 with one of these as use it a fair amount for web browsing and can see the screen resolution icrease making that so much better.

Will have a walk in the purple place on the way home and have a play methinks.

Sat on the bog using the eBay app to find some bits for my bike whilst listening to some Belinda Carlisle. Does life get any better?
