That's always the case though. The price you pay isn't going to be the price the product costs to make because there's so many other factors involved beyond simply the price of materials - R&D, cost of manufacture, packaging, marketing, shipping etc and of course, the market sets the price too.

Despite that there's no doubt they're making a hefty profit on each one, but they're selling so you can't argue the business sense there.

I'd be interested to know the cost of simple raw materials on something like a CPU. I can't imagine there's much in it because surely in its raw state, the cost of a PCB, silicon and heatspreader alone must be quite small. The cost will be (somewhat) justified with R&D etc.

Thats pretty impressive battery life from the max especially when looking at it as an ip7 user :-)
Other than battery life im pretty happy with the 7 but i am tempted to upgrade , not sure how well ill get on with face unlock though

Sounds about right for something as complex as a phone. It doesn’t take into account software, marketing, logistics, retail, wholesale selling price, support, warranty repairs, 5 years of software updates, free apps. I could go on but let’s be realistic they net margin is much lower but still very healthy.

Let’s take an extreme example: how much does it cost MS to produce a retail copy of windows? Probably about £2, it sells for £100...

Has Anyone else had any issues with the phone not outputting in Stereo correctly. I'm having an issue where the top earpiece speaker does not output any sound yet calls work fine albeit at a low volume. Using Apple music for example sound only comes from the bottom firing speaker. If i reboot the device both speakers start to work correctly again.

I have contacted Apple and they want to replace the device but want me to drive to my nearest store which is over an hour away! A simple reboot fixes it until it happens again.

This is on a iPhone XS Max

I was the same. I’m a Face ID convert now. It’s fantastic. :)

I’m getting an XS Max next week. I have an X at the moment.

I have really missed the larger screen of the 7 Plus over the last year. It was the only reason I was never really completely happy with the X.

Although the screen is higher resolution on paper, you get less horizontal screen area in practical terms. I really felt it as I’ve had the plus versions of the 6 and 6S too. So in this sense going to the X after three years of plus sized screens felt like a retrograde step.

I would urge anyone with a plus sized iPhone that they are happy with to reconsider if they are not upgrading to the Max version of the XS.

Roll on Monday and a return to large screen goodness :)

It does make you wonder how a company such as OnePlus/Oppo which by all accounts makes a stonking good phone can retail it for £469 though. They offer updates for 3 years now, by which time most people would like as not be ready for an upgrade.

Mind you I do like getting the dividend on my Apple shares.

Apple are hardly scraping by though are they? Over 38% margins across the whole business for a tech company is huge, of course they over charge, but people will pay it so who really cares? If the iPhone cost less, and they charged for updates, and support they'd just make less money because not everyone would take up these offers. Having updates and support is great, if you care about the updates or use the support, otherwise it just an excuse for larger margins to be added.

For what it is worth, the XS Max felt completely normal after a day or so. I haven't seen a X since but I bet it will feel really small! But I too missed my 7+ after I had my X

Another failed call today, no idea how that even happens when I'm on WiFi using WiFi calling.

Definitely keeping an eye on my 14 days return.

Really disappointing, as I've been on a Pixel 2 for the past year and decided to come back to iOS.

Do people just think that class leading processors just appear out of thin air? That also doesn't include any licencing costs for the modems etc. Pretty sure the margins on just about any consumer item if you account just for the material costs are similar.

Could be a simple software fix. I’d hold off until there’s more info, someone on here I think suggested resetting Network settings. I did it and haven’t had any issues.

EE have changed their back order date to the 15th - 20th of October for my Max :(

Not sure why I can’t just walk into an EE shop that has stock and collect it from there??

Why not pop in to a shop. Show them your order and ask if you can just redeem it in the shop if they have stock rather than wait til the 20th?

Edit. That’s a long wait for a shiny new gadget :p

It also becomes a customer support nightmare having so many OS versions out there. It’s in their best interest to get as many people as possible on the latest and most secure release as soon as possible.

Can anyone feel a slightly rough edge around the screen on the MAX? Specifically the thin black plastic bezel between the screen and the steel band?

When I swipe down my finger when triggering reachability it very slightly catches on the edge of the plastic, not a deal breaker just wondered if everyone’s are the same.

Not overly bothered if they are all like that as can’t be faffed with the hassle sending back, but if it’s meant to be completely smooth may I contact apple re a replacement.
