Ok so this may sound absolute madness.. but I had a blemish on the gold band around my Xs.. (it was a dark ish spot and bugging me)

So decided to try a cape cod polishing cloth  to see if I could get it out with taking the gold colour off. It worked a treat. The cloth not only got rid of the blemish. But it left the colour intact. Happy days. I didn’t apply much pressure though. :p

It will get a bit better over time. You can also disable "Require attention for Face ID" which will make it a bit better at the expense of security. I disabled it on my X and have left it disabled for months, but I guess I might try putting it back on.

Thanks, I’m not sure whether it’s my glasses but it seems that the phone has to be absolutely dead-on straight for it to unlock. Even the slightest angle and it won’t work. Not sure whether that’s normal.

The only thing id wanna change is not have to swipe up to use it once its unlocked, just go to the home screen already xD

I like that when you pick it up it has just has notification headers which then, once faceid recognises you, turn into the actual headlines for them notifications. If you press on the notification, it does take you straight there....so you don’t have to unlock and then navigate yourself

Darn hopefully they will sort that in a future update

We can only hope. I find it very annoying they've limited purely to the messages app, as it means I don't use it. If there was a dedicated Animoji app I'd have tons of vids recorded and shared in What'sApp and online, but because they're so restrictive I've not used it past the first week I owned my X last year. Such a waste :(

Try not to view the unlock and swipe up as two separate actions. Just pick up your phone and swipe up immediately - it will unlock and go to the home screen in 1sec.

The alternative would be for it to unlock and go to the home screen as soon as you pick your phone up and look at it.. that would be really annoying if all you wanted to do was check the time or notifications. Glad it doesn’t do that ;)

Got my XS Max the other day.

First generation release/refresh where I can barely notice any difference to my old phone... the X.

I'm glad I got the big one this time, even though I find it a little bit too big, I really like the extended battery life over the smaller phone... I was finding my X struggling to manage a full day when I was really busy... so the bump in battery will be appreciated & the larger screen can be useful for certain tasks I like to use my phone for.

Other than those basics I expected, I'm really rather underwhelmed with this release, especially at the price they're asking for it.

With volumes produced and surely the price of the OLED screens reducing since last years release, I'd imagine production costs have reduced, rather than increased... so it seems somewhat price gougey, but then so did the latest Macbook Pro release, so I'm not sure why I contemplated any different.

I don't mind paying a bit extra for some nice improvements, but this one really feels like a let down.

Also, is it just me... or do the edges of the back glass of the XS Max feel less fluid with the frame than it did with the X? If I'm the only one noticing that, perhaps I need to check the feeling of someone elses phone to make sure I don't have a small manufacturing defect in mine.

Oh well, still keeping it as I still prefer it to the competitors phones... just would like to notice more from my change. Usually I notice the speed bumps from new processors and even though I know this one is quicker & in the odd scenario it does feel marginally quicker... it's minimal... but then as I didn't try iOS 12 on my X, perhaps that has something to do with it as newer iOS releases sometimes slow certain phones down a little... maybe they're a bit more resource intensive.

Got mine direct from apple and I have sharp edges around the display rather than the back, as the steel band protrudes slightly, originally brought the 64GB one, but ordered another 256GB one and I’ll be sending the original one back to apple. I’ll see if the new one is the same.

My X was smooth all around the display, if the new one is the same I’m just not going to worry about it.

Edit; just received the new one, perfectly smooth all the way round, much better fit and finish than the last one.

Any way of having animoji effects in the normal camera app ??

I know i can do it in iMessage - but i wanna take a funny animoji selfie but not use iMessage, as i dont want to send that image to anyone, just take the selfie.

Any clue ?

While you can use the screen recording function, the easiest/quickest way is simply to send the iMessage to your own number. You can then press+hold on the message and save it to your camera roll and do whatever you want with it.

I do like the Max and always preferred the plus sized devices.

However, as above, it’s pretty much the same phone as the X, displaying about the same information.

Screen costs did come down, last year they were $110 and this year they are down to $80. Samsung had millions so I doubt the spec changed, more so the configuration of them were optimised a bit better.

Face ID is fab, as someone said above, just lift, swipe up, no pauses, no waiting and 99.9% it will unlock instantly. Mine can sometimes unlock when on the desk and I glance at it.

Is there a big difference between screen protectors? You have the ones O2 and CPW sell for £20 but on Amazon you have some as low as 3 for £5 from other brands. What are other people using for their new phones?

Not really much of a difference to be honest, I’ve found the Anker tempered glass one to be good, the finger print coating lasted ages on the one I had on my X.

I noticed this the other day and thought it was me doing something daft!

Plugged the cable in and expecting to here the charging dong and the screen to wake but it didn't!

Will keep an eye on this (not rebooted yet either since earlier in the week)
