***The Official LG Nexus 4 Thread***

Yeah but you have to reduce from 8MP, surely the quality of the photo will be worse by quite a bit then?

Although saying that, MP doesn't mean everything and there wasn't a huge difference between the LG optimus G 8MP and 13MP devices (iirc)

My understanding is (and I could be wrong) the sensor itself is a certain size and shape, so it's impossible to have a different format (16:9, 14:3) with the same amount of megapixels.

When you switch to widescreen, effectively it just doesn't use the top and bottom area of the sensor. Someone please enlighten us if that isn't the case though :)

My 8GB N4 arrived this morning. I didn't get a shipping email before it arrived and still haven't. It's still sealed in its box and after seeing the prices on eBay I'm tempted to sell it and buy another one later. Anyone here want it for £480 with RMSD? :D

Just kidding...

I think that's correct, my normal camera is the same but the other way around, less mega pixels if I switch to 4:3.

Just to let you guys know that after a bit of pushing, Google have finally given me the solution that I've requested. RMA the phone as a 16GB model, they'll send out a 16GB model when it comes back in stock in a couple of weeks (for those of you who missed out, that's when you need to start looking again!), and return through TNT. In other words, exactly the same method that Apple use with their advanced CRU replacements (for those of you who have had replacement Macs and boxed iPhones).

No refund on postage, but that's fine, considering that they said they don't mind me using this phone anyway.

Very happy. Now I can use this gorgeous device properly!

Love it so far:)
Love how screen rounds on edges making swipe real pleasure :)
Fast, much smoother than Gnex.
Screen is lovely.
Feels better than gnex.
Camera is fine for myself.
Louder than gnex.
Even headphone speaker is better.

That's it so far.

Just took a photo on my S with the 16.9 aspect ratio enabled and disabled (8MP for both):

4.3 - 3264 x 2448
16.9 - 3264 x 1840

Clearly one is less pixels. As I said, they just chop off the top and bottom, you've just proved it.

16.9 = 3264 times 2448 = 7.99MP
4.3 = 3264 times 1840 = 6MP

I know, that is why I posted it, to prove what you said is right! :p (by the "8MP" preset comment in the brackets, that is all, which is shown on the S, it doesn't change the MP to the proper one when you have 16.9 selected)

I think you have that mixed up :p :o

You've got those the wrong way round, 3264*1840 is 16:9 (6MP), 3264*2448 is 4:3 (8MP) :).

Oh yes, they're the wrong way round. Either way, one is 8MP and one is 6MP.

Whoops, sorry my bad! :o

Posting all this from my phone whilst in a rush :p

Supplied headphones have always been diabolical.

Suddenly people are missing having them on a heavily subsidized product?

My old GN still has the headphones in their original packaging.
