***The Official LG Nexus 4 Thread***

Is there any reason at all not to sell my s3 to get this? Something i have missed? Only got s3 a few months ago am on the one plan on three so its a 2 year contract. Figure selling s3 to get this gives me a newer phone to go the two years? :|

If storage is important then stick with GS 3, if not go for this. And also if you prefer SAMOLED to IPS.

Aside from possibly audio and camera quality everything else is better on the N4.

LG 4XHD is a cruddy phone and a total flop - avoid at all costs :D

It isn't a bad phone at all. Everything looks very good and mostly better than the one series and GS 3 etc. apart from LG software, although I prefer the looks and features of it to touchwiz but it seems to be poorly optimised with regards to battery life and performance in benchmarks (but in the videos it looks very quick and smooth) and not to mention probably zero support :p And the camera doesn't look as good either, audio seems to be on par with the S/GS 3, battery life seems to be as good if not better than the GS 3/S, need to see users opinions first though.

Yeah i've had french and german too:D

I wonder if this will be priced similarly? (pretty much the same device) http://www.lg.com/uk/mobile-phones/lg-P880

I prefer how it looks, no wasted space near the buttons at the bottom..

you're missing the point, having a "pure" android device like the nexus is soooooo much better, no crappy overlay and you get all the updates asap

Better than the One series and S3? Are you feeling unwell? oh - you may have meant aesthetics which is purely your choice.

This is the 4XHD (Tergra 3) crud phone with LG software and crappy camera).

No software updates is like 3 legged race horse - this phone is carp.

Storage doesnt bother me in the slightest, i use google music so my space on phone is only for apps n photos. Might try to recycle my s3 then can potentially get a free upgrade if i do. Can you recycle locked phones does it alter the price of them? Dont know whether to do it now before nexus hits incase the prices drop.

Just for three I think?

http://blog.three.co.uk/2012/02/29/leading-edge-3g-service/

It's 'DC-HSDPA' and I think only three are in the process of rolling it out. It should provide three customers with 42mbps instead of the standard 3g speed of 21mbps for the same prices as 3g!

Best of all the nexus 4 supports it. Glad I'm on three! :)

+1 for that, thanks for the linkage. Very glad I'm on three now, who needs LTE :D

The problem with this approach is that it prices other manufacturers out of the market who can't afford to prop up their hardware business with revenue from other sources. Amazon and Google need to be careful they aren't too successful with this approach because they could face an anti-trust case.

Yeah it's a real problem for them. I don't think it's an anti-trust issue because it's an open platform and an unlocked handset - you don't have to buy ANYTHING from the Play store and they don't stop you buying from Amazon's or anyone else's apps and media outlets, but it WILL give them trouble with their OEMs, which is why I imagine they had to give LG a crack at making a Nexus handset. Expect Sony to be next, and then HTC might get another go.

Is this sustainable in the long run though? What's keeping other companies making Android handsets if they're constantly afraid of being undercut by Google selling handsets at a loss? How long can they keep them happy by alternating between them when they're looking for Nexus device manufacturers?

I'm absolutely amazed that nobody tried to buy WebOS off HP to keep as a backup to be honest. I suppose there's nothing to stop them using it now that it's been open-sourced, but having their own proprietary OS as a backup sounds like an attractive proposition to me if you're relying on Google and Microsoft! Samsung are still keeping Bada on life support but HTC have nothing to fall back on.

TBPH, I would be very happy if it did force Samsung etc. out of the android business with regards to their own devices with custom skins because it would solve my main hate with android, fragmentation! :p

Would be more than happy with a motorola, sony Ericsson, LG and motorola nexus device to choose from every year rather than having the android market saturated with new devices every month and thus getting left behind with old software and the majority of devices not even getting updates.

The unrealistic situation that would please me greatly would be to find a provider bundling the Nexus 4 and 3G 7 (ideally the 4 and any sort of 10) for a monthly fee which includes the usual minutes and data.

At the moment I'm after a Note 2 (a £500 phone) which can be had free on a £31/month with plenty of minutes, texts and data. I'd happily pay £35-ish per month for a bundle of Nexus 4 and 10 (with a combined value of £560-ish)

Make it happen someone!

I'm torn. I have my iPhone 5, and really love it. Display is the right size, build is awesome, iOS suits me best, blah blah blah...but...

For the first time, we have a true no-compromise, dirt cheap Android device.

Help! :(

Why change? I love my android, its the phone OS for me. However if I have learnt anything from my time making recommendations on the OS it is to never try and convince an iphone user to switch.

You seem more then happy with your iphone, seems a no brainer to keep it.

Some quick questions

1: Is the quality of the display any good?
(I also don't like how the screen doesn't fill the entire face)

2: Will this phone be rootable?

3: Is it coming to Three?

The display is equals with iphone5 and htc oneX as the best displays on the market. It will be rootable from day 1.

Also there's no phone in existence where the screen fills the entire face is there? :o
