***The Official LG Nexus 4 Thread***

Ordered my 8gb at 17:06 on the 4th.

I received my shipping email at 00:30 this morning and it looks like it will be delivered today or tomorrow (arrived at destinationdepot at 06:30).

Edit: it is out for delivery today!

Delivered by TNT about 13:00. All i can say is....WOW! This is an upgrade to my wife's 2 year old wildfire!

I wanted to give her a great smartphone experience with a low cost of ownership. She only uses 250 minutes a month and i do not want to pay > £30 a month. The cost of the N4 with a Three sim ticks all the right boxes!

I just need to get work to replace my Blackberry Torch now :p

Im not shooting it down. I know the N4 is a great phone but not for my needs. My last post said "as good as the Nexus is, it would be useless after the battery had run out 3 hours into my walk". That is probably when I rely on my phone being awake. The N4 would not be suitable in that situation. I have also lost count of the number of times my S2 ran out of battery, usually when I really needed it, before I started carrying a spare battery in my wallet.

Did you have an S2? What did you think of it when you first bought it? It was the best thing ever and had a good feel to it. Nothing anyone could say would put you off it and you would defend and insult everyone who had an older phone would be my guess. Jump forward 18 months. What will you be saying about your N4.

yeah owned it before my galaxy nexus, it was a good phone, bit cheap and nasty on the feel, but good runner

You guys are mad, a flagship phone from last year can still hold its own (assuming it ha dual core/1GB RAM) in terms of every day usage. I'm still on a SGS i9000. Plan was for me to give it to my sister as a Christmas present as I'll have a Nexus 4... don't think it'll happen now.

Ordered at 5.09pm and 1 to 2 week delivery...could still happen but I think they've already shifted a lot of stock to late orders.

They all look pretty good and you can easily get used to any of them, I doubt in reality there is anyone who finds themselves upset that the black levels of their phone screen aren't quite as good as they could be. If you have this problem then you've got some serious issues. :p

In regards to the blacks/contrast/viewing angles and to a much lesser extent colours:

For me it's like getting used to 100Mb Broadband, and then all of a sudden saying now you can only have 5Mb

The ip5 screen is LCD and I'm pretty sure it's quite an improvement in terms of the above over the N4 screen.

EDIT: I should have added that like Jimlad said, a lot of people will find the N4 screen great and after having it a week without comparing it to SAMOLED etc they will just get used to the screen.

Most people it seems just don't care about the absolutes as long as it's a decent screen all-round.

5.06 order here. 1 week to go to maintain 1-2 week estimate ( like many others). Then it'll likely be a massive delay due to lots of bank holidays.

I must say a lot of these new LCD screens are much much better, but the blacks just arnt as good. Its not a big deal but it something I noticed right away, even with better screens like the HTC one X, overall most things are better then my S2 screen but I will miss the blacks on it, and also the huge contrast shift you get with some LCD screens, I have read reviews about the S2 going blue when you tilt it but I never really see it, however on most LCDs its kinda of bad.

On the other hand the whites suck on the S2, more so at low brightness, when I turn it to 0% while reading in bed the whites look slightly orange/yellow and its very very bad, this is something that I will see a huge improvement in. Point is right now their is no perfect screen, but personally I feel the Nexus 4 will be a step forward compared to the S2 or even the S3 as it is still not using a Full RGB and text does suffer for it.

I used to have the S2, I am now using an iPhone 4S till the Nexus 4 arrives. tbh I noticed the colour difference instantly. The colours on the iPhone just seem "duller" and certain album art I am used to seeing on my S2 when playing music (I used the S2 and iPhone as music players a lot) looks "weird". But within a week or two I got used to the iPhone 4S screen as the "norm" as I see it everyday.

I don't understand why this is an issue to anyone? Unless you carry round a SAMOLED phone and an LCD one together you will forget the difference within a week (I did).

It's the same with anything different, within a week or so you accept it as the norm unless you constantly look at another device that reminds you of the difference. Most people just carry 1 phone at a time so they should adjust very quickly.

The Nexus 4 screen has slighly yellow whites. Definitly not super white like I've seen on some LCD's.

Whites bother me a lot less than blacks unless they are really bad.

Also Pentile at high PPI (300+) is ok by me, tiny text isn't as sharp as RGB your right but I don't read much tiny text.

I can read the forum in portrait with small text below without issues.

after few weeks with N4, I have to say I am really enjoying this device.
with giffgaff in it, my battery at work doesnt drop as fast as with other networks. when sometimes I managed to be left with 40% after work, now I can get 60-70% left even after morning google music on commute.
on average, I use google music for 1 hour a day.
today, after 17 hours off charge, with 2,5h screen time I still have 21% left.

over weekend, after almost 2 days off charge and over 3h screen time, I had over 20% battery left - most of time indoors and on wifi.

Anyone here on one of the Three 'Essential Internet Sims'???

Their site is useless and doens't confirm in the pricing pdf if voicemail is free. Am I right that voicemail is free and comes out of your minutes?

Been looking at the 'Ultimate Internet SIM 200 1 month' for when my Nexus 4 arrives, would like to know this too.
