***The Official LG Nexus 4 Thread***

The Nexus 4 screen has slighly yellow whites. Definitly not super white like I've seen on some LCD's.

Whites bother me a lot less than blacks unless they are really bad.

Also Pentile at high PPI (300+) is ok by me, tiny text isn't as sharp as RGB your right but I don't read much tiny text.

I can read the forum in portrait with small text below without issues.

Yellow whites and no real blacks :(, it can't be as bad as my S2 though was actual looking forward to real whites. 300+ ppi is great, use my dads s3 from time to time and its perfect but I was just saying the N4 is still sharper and just makes text generally easier to read, for me sharp text is a big deal too so it is something I am looking forward too.

Anyone here on one of the Three 'Essential Internet Sims'???

Their site is useless and doens't confirm in the pricing pdf if voicemail is free. Am I right that voicemail is free and comes out of your minutes?

Been using the voicemail for awhile and never been charged for it yet, so I would think its free and just takes your minutes.

Blacks might not be black as the ace of spades.... However my whites are as snow & that's fresh snow ... Not peed on snow!

100% no yellow at all.

Been looking at the 'Ultimate Internet SIM 200 1 month' for when my Nexus 4 arrives, would like to know this too.

Well from looking at forums then general replies are as below from Fallen god.

Three don't mention it's free, but just say what the cost of voicemail is out of allowance.

Cheers.

Tempted to go for the Essenial 200 Internet Sim (12month) @ ~£8.30pcm (+£5 for AYCE data and inc TCB ~£45).

But might just get the £15.90 deal with 600mins and ultd data, which is about £11.80 when you factor in TCB ~£45. Bargain!

I got £75 for the £15.90 on Quidco but it seems its dropped to £45 too which sucks.

As for the voicemail I used to use Hullo mail for awhile and its awesome, just need to keep sync on and it worked perfect everytime.

Sigh, this screen discussion is getting boring and quite frankly it's needless.

It's similar to people in the Nexus 10 thread who are saying "I have light bleed if I turn the brightness up to 100% whilst looking at a completely black imagine, in a completely dark room".

Now correct me if I'm wrong (and you won't, as I'm not) but auto brightness lowers the back light when the ambient light from the environment you're in gets lower. So unless you like your retinas smoked, you're not going to be using the device on 100% brightness in a dark room.

It's similar in the way that in 99% of usage, the Nexus 4 screen will be looked at directly by you whilst you're using it and very rarely is there going to be a situation where you need to look at the device at angles which are causing an issue.

Yellow whites was a bit of an exaggertaion on my part - off white would be more accurate for the N4.
example of what I noticed is in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?featur...HQE5EZpZpP9Il64YrblgJk5L&v=MIWYp6ZXe-s#t=361s

Viewing angles and contrast shift - IP5 VS N4:

Who cares, if you don't like the screen, your loss (not you kona, just in general). Choose a different phone. Simples.

Anywho, anyone found a ROM that combines, PA, CM and AOKP for this?

what's special about AOKP? Never used it. :)

Has so many customisation options.

Look it up on YouTube :)

I believe Codename Android on the Galaxy Nexus did all 3, but I can't find anything for this. Probably due to the infancy of development, which in turn is due to low amount of these available.

In regards to the blacks/contrast/viewing angles and to a much lesser extent colours:

For me it's like getting used to 100Mb Broadband, and then all of a sudden saying now you can only have 5Mb

The ip5 screen is LCD and I'm pretty sure it's quite an improvement in terms of the above over the N4 screen.

EDIT: I should have added that like Jimlad said, a lot of people will find the N4 screen great and after having it a week without comparing it to SAMOLED etc they will just get used to the screen.

Most people it seems just don't care about the absolutes as long as it's a decent screen all-round.

I'll bet when you want a new TV, you go to Currys and buy the one that looks the brightest too amirite?

Just because a screen is bright, doesn't make it right. I've you've ever seen a ISF calibrated TV the last thing the colours look is saturated.

Erm - remind me where I said anything about a bright screen?

Just because I like my phone saturated and high contrast you reckon I like everything else that way?

No. Lesson of today - assumptions are the mother of all ****-ups.

My monitor is a U2711 and my TV is a Panny plasma.

If you have a correctly calibrated TV, you'd realise how inaccurate the S3 screen is... Its levels are just ramped up to clueless Currys tv buyers levels, and whites just look blue.

I have a S3 by the way.... Can't wait to get rid of it.

I know calibrated colours. I like my phone screen to 'pop'.

The only thing wrong with SAMOLED for me is it's a bit too saturated. However I'll overlook that as I prefer over to under saturated. And perfect black, insane contrast and viewing angles mean that I prefer this type of screen on my phone.

Good day.

Not that it was ever 5 star, but the quality of this thread has gone downhill something terrible, mindless bickering like school kids in the playground.
