***The Official LG Nexus 4 Thread***

Wonder how other iPhone convertors have found it - Im far more impressed with the phone itself than Android so far (though battery life is awful in comparison) - still appears to lack quite a lot of polish to aid addition of features to my mind, though Ive only used the first party apps mostly so far.

Best I can say its different and thats what I was primarily after. I do think Ill start to embrace it more once I start trying to do things I wouldnt even considered on iOS I guess...

As another iphone converter I'd say I'm really happy. Everything just works well, it all zips along nicely and is really comfortable to use. I've still not really installed much or customised much, but its nice to know I can when I feel like it. I'm loving something new as well, I'd become so bored of iOS.

With regards to your battery comments. I've also come from an iPhone4 and this seems much better. However its been pretty bad the last few days after I turned on Google now to see what that was like, so I think you'll see a decent improvement if you try it without that. I find the battery takes longer to charge, but I guess that makes sense as the capacity is higher.

Ahhh I do think Ive got Google Now on so that might explain that - but the battery breakdown doesnt show much GPS activity? would that be hidden if its a non-user request for GPS localisation? Ill post a screenshot in a sec:

i dont get why everyone butchers their sims? just go into a local store and get a new one in 5mins FREE of charge. Also its good to get a new sim every now and then for various reasons.

Some providers likw Orange won't allow people to do that they have to be ordered over the phone.

I think you have wait till the next iteration, I don't remember Google just releasing a kernel update... I could be wrong.

I used most of the custom Kernels. Francos new R28 release seems to be getting good feedback. Using a custom Kernel is are pretty much guaranteed to get better battery life. But performance "might" not seem as smooth as stock because MPdecision has been turned off. Which is basically project butter (each time you touch the screen the CPU will jump to 1000mhz)

If it's a really bad bug they will rush out a fix which will be the same version of android just a different build.

maybe the policy has changed now its EE.

also it depends what you tell them ;)

i know o2 and voda will swap there and then, just walk into EE and say customer service said i need a new sim as im getting weird drop outs.

Got mine last night for £270. Chuffed to bits with it. It really is an awesome device!
Not sure I'm going to go messing with custom kernals as they always seemed to bugger my Galaxy S up in some way so will stick to vanilla JB for now!

Guy I bought it off had a SIM cutter handy too so no messing around butchering it myself!

One of the few things stopping me pulling the trigger on the 16GB from CPW is the reviews almost all slating the camera as poor, and the 1080p video recording as choppy, full of artefacts and low bitrate.

A decent camera is important to me tbh and I'm also looking at the S3 LTE, but having played with the Nexus in store a few times I've fallen in love with the device itself! It's hard to test a camera when the phones tied to a table against a wall so would anyone care to help me out? I'm on mobile broadband on a tablet so reviewer's posted pics are little use... real life experience would be appreciated! It doesn't have to be pro but clear and sharp for social media and websites etc is a must. Anyone fancy helping me make up my mind? :-)

I can forgive non-expandable storage due to my 7" tablet going everywhere with me, but a rubbish camera not so much...

Someone on here posted about an app that lets you set the LED to whatever colour you want when you're charging it, can't remember where the post was, been back a few pages does anyone know?

Any other decent little apps I should get?

I'm trying to decide to weather get the nexus 4 or htc one x plus, the only real downside i can see to the nexus 4 is just having 16gb where as the HTC has 64gig , have anybody found this a problem???

I walked into an EE store (it used to be an Orange store) and they just gave me a Orange micro SIM. Also customer services offered to send me one for free when I called them, but I didn't want to wait 3-4 days for delivery.

I have both the S3 LTE and Nexus 4 and if a camera is important to you I would definitely go for the S3 LTE. Not to say that the Nexus 4 camera is terrible but compared with the S3 it does suffer.

I was a die hard S3 user and still am however the more I have been using the Nexus 4 the more I have come to like it and have started to prefer it over the S3 (don't know how long it will last though!) Everything is far more smoother and just that little bit quicker, it's very hard to choose between the two phones, both are extremely good.

However if you prefer deep blacks and slightly more saturated colours then the S3 is to go for, however if you like the look of LCD screens and can't stand what some people call the "cartoony" look of the S3 screen then the Nexus 4 wins out.

Where the S3 (lte) has an advantage is

Better camera (still and video)
Removable battery
Memory expansion
SAMOLED screen (this is debatable)
Samsung Apps backed into Touchwiz (Smart stay, multi window) - again this is debatable
LTE speeds

N4 advantage over S3

Latest and greatest Android software updates will be from Google
Premium look and feel
LCD screen (again debatable)

Both phones are too close to call and if I had to chose one over the other, I honestly couldn't...however if camera is important to you the S3 would take it solely for that reason

You understand my dilemma then! Thanks very much for that helpful post, it's helped make up my mind. I prefer almost everything on the N4 tbh, but the sAMOLED has really grown on me with playing around on one, and the camera is a pretty big deal breaker tbh. S3 LTE it is, it seems. Just need to find one cheap enough haha

I sure do! :D

It's hard choice to make, both phones bring different strengths to the table.

Have a look on ebay or even Gumtree. I bought mine from the latter from a seller who was registered for a fair amount of time and was able to produce a receipt as proof of purchase.

Retailers on the internet are selling the phone for £490 upwards, you could go the PAYG route via Orange / T Mobile which will set you back £460

Ebay / Gumtree the S3 LTE is going around £350-£400

Amazon, ee and (I believe) Asda were selling around the £350/360 mark until recently, so I think I'll hold out a couple of weeks and see if anything 'legit' turns up before I resort to Gumtree and eBay. :)

I was playing with my phone for quite a while last night and had loads of stuff turned on, downloaded GTA Vice City in like 20 minutes and was playing that.

Anyway as I was doing all this with the phone I noticed the back of it got really hot, not too hot to hold but it was really really warm, like how a laptop gets.

Is this a problem? Will a case or bumper or whatever exacerbate it? I don't want it to overheat or anything.

Quality, that's a result! I believe EE's offer was for a limited period but that has now expired. However if you can pick one up on Amazon or even Asda, you won't be disappointed.

Speedwise I regularly hit around 21-24 mg and that's using a Three sim card!
