***The Official LG Nexus 4 Thread***

I have to say the more I use my N4 the more it impresses me every day. I am a die hard S3 owner and I never thought that the N4 would sway me but vanilla Android and the sheer speed of the phone is amazing.

I'm finding it hard to move back to the S3 and that's saying something!

Google hit the nail on the head with this phone and I'll admit it I was totally wrong about this phone.

Incredible, well done Google!

I've done the Liquid Armor application easy as pi, if you are capable of cleaning your screen you can apply this as to how protective it is I haven't a clue beyond the youtube vids.
Cheers for that mate - you dont have any pics of the application before or after? Trying to gauge if the gloss affect akes any changes to screen quality or colours (maybe the screens more reflective?). Ive heard it makes the screen a bit more attractive to smudges but also feels more 'gripper'.

Hard to tell if its snake oil or not but Im tempted to try it rather than have nothing (though I do still have the standard protector on the back still - tempted to leave that there)

An iPhone lover's confession: I switched to the Nexus 4. Completely.

Excellent blog by a power user of iPhone who has been completely smitten by the Nexus 4 and his reasons why. Definitely worth a read. Also he lists his favourite apps which are useful, especially to first-timers on Nexus. He is co-founder of Germany's largest mobile development shop too.

Wonder how other iPhone convertors have found it - Im far more impressed with the phone itself than Android so far (though battery life is awful in comparison) - still appears to lack quite a lot of polish to aid addition of features to my mind, though Ive only used the first party apps mostly so far.

Best I can say its different and thats what I was primarily after. I do think Ill start to embrace it more once I start trying to do things I wouldnt even considered on iOS I guess...

is the battery life worse than an iPhone 4?

Its been on standby for just under 2 days as Ive been away for a bit, connected to wifi but with no SIM card and no email accounts being checked (its pretty much factory setup except for a few app downloads), so Ive not used it at all other than maybe a 5min game of temple run and its on 58% already . My iP4 has been used quite a bit in that time and has been checking a few email accounts via fetch and its on 56% and was charged just before the N4...

Not sure where those stats are (are they under the initial battery screen) or the one after when you click on the chart and it shows usage via a simple histogram?

If its the first the main ones are:

Phone idle - 23%
WIFI - 21%
Maps - 19%
Android OS - 18%
Mobile standby - 16%

Its been off charge for 1day and 17.5h

Yeah I thought that too - I dont remember using it but its the first thing in the multitasking screen so unless I used it for a while once I charged it or it still takes up CPU cycles while in the background Im a bit confused. The only things Ive definitely recall using since charge is Currents, Chrome and Temple Run.

Im sure it will get better after a few cycles but I am comparing it to a 2year old battery in the iP4 :p. It does make me wonder if it will last a day through normal usage - it did get caned when I kept trying to fix the YouTube bug Ive got since Ive had it...

That's because either google now or an app polling your location.

Ahhh I do think Ive got Google Now on so that might explain that - but the battery breakdown doesnt show much GPS activity? would that be hidden if its a non-user request for GPS localisation? Ill post a screenshot in a sec:

I've got mine up and running now (cut the sim card and butchered it a little bit but works fine so whatever) but I can't seem to find where the mobile network settings are, anyone point me in the right direction? Got the wi-fi on and like I said the phone is working.

Settings -> More... -> Mobile Networks

i dont get why everyone butchers their sims? just go into a local store and get a new one in 5mins FREE of charge. Also its good to get a new sim every now and then for various reasons.

Does google send out firmware fixes for nexus devices or will we have to wait for the next iteration of android (4.3/5.0) ?. Also has anyone tried franco's kernel ?.

I think you have wait till the next iteration, I don't remember Google just releasing a kernel update... I could be wrong.

I used most of the custom Kernels. Francos new R28 release seems to be getting good feedback. Using a custom Kernel is are pretty much guaranteed to get better battery life. But performance "might" not seem as smooth as stock because MPdecision has been turned off. Which is basically project butter (each time you touch the screen the CPU will jump to 1000mhz)
