***The Official LG Nexus 4 Thread***

Gutted.

Was sent a faulty unit, the up volume rocker is solid. It'll go down but not up.

I rang them this morning and they raised an RMA. They sent me a link to order a new one from the units put aside for this - so I won't be without a phone.

I have to say that I'm very impressed so far :)

Not sure what would happen when you're outside of the 15 day period.

So far I think its a great phone. Its a marked improvement over the Samsung Nexus. Even this issue hasn't put me off it.

Can anyone suggest a decent screen protector? I've usually just ordered cheap ones from ebay and not had a problem but i wonder how well the cheapies will fit on such a relatively new device?

Anybody who used a GS3 here switched to the nexus 4? If so how would you rate it?

Reading through reviews it doesnt seem too bad.

both phones are roughly equal imo, they have different pro's and con's. there really should be no reason to switch, unless of course your going to be keeping the phone for a very long time (2 years) and want the latest updates (nexus 4).

anyone who has a gs3 should keep it.

Well I gave up with google contacts sync from iTunes. I can't get it to work.

Here comes the joyous task of copying over all my contacts manually!

Must have worked moaning at Google, mine says out for delivery today, wait and see if Tnt deliver now???

Does it actually say "today". My tracking status is "Shipment loaded to vehicle" "Out for delivery between the hours of 09:00 - 18:00".

When I rang TNT yesterday the woman said they don't deliver Express on Saturdays, so expect it to arrive Monday...

I went from the s3 to iPhone 4s and now the Nexus. Still in the honeymoon period but I'm finding it like a breath of fresh air in comparison. The build quality of the iPhone plus the bloat free os is perfect. It's early days yet, but I think the battery life is about comparable with my old s3.

In short I'm quite pleased with it, especially as I had low expectations initially (was going to return it and get an iPhone 5 before I'd even opened the nexus box).

Appears I have bigger issues. Put orange sim card into phone and no signal. Brilliant!

Edit : borked micro sim!

Can you not export the contracts to CSV then import them into Google?

Yep this is what I did as I had the same problem, found a simple little app in the app store that saved your contacts as a CSV and mailed them to you, I then imported them into my gmail contacts.

I think the iPhone app was called 'my contacts backup'

Well, I've been using the Nexus 4 now for 24hrs and have to say i love it! My previous phone have been iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S (which is what the Nexus replaced).

I did try an Android phone about a year ago, Galaxy S3, but didn't like it. Looking back now i think it was due to Samsung's own skin and work that put me off...but the Nexus is Virgin Android so a pure experience.

Really like JB 4.2. Currently running Paranoid Android Rom and like it a lot.
I'm surprised at the level of customisation you can achieve with these phones! There really isnt anything that i dont like about it.

Heres what ive managed in 24hrs with my First Android phone....:

Minimalism- Just how i like it.
I'm only getting started...... ;)

Thanks for all the help!

Wow I'm impressed, that does look nice! :)

You seem to be right at home making Android your own, I'm sure you will find many more ways to customise the experience to meet your needs.

Wish Ive had the same experience with mine :(, it definitely does look like if you are one of those people with time on your hands to fiddle, or you wanted to say jailbreak iOS then Android suits you well.

If you just arent that way inclined or dont have the spare time, like myself, then its hard to beat iOS, especially when it comes to comparable apps where Ive found Android just buggier and less polished.

The Nexus is a lovely piece of hardware (most impressive part of the move), but it eats battery, Ive never had to consider having to manage my usage or my connections before and that bugs me. It does make me wonder if this hardware had iOS how much more efficient it would be and how much improved the resultant battery life would be (not that Im saying the final hybrid would be 'better').

I also do feel like if Google actually got a hold of Android how much better it would be, its lovely having this open platform, but it feels inefficient and is slowly moving towards MS-like bloat IMO where you have to throw hardware at it to make the successive OS do the same as the last one.

Such a shame, I guess my values of technology enhancing my life rather than endlessly tweaking it, differ from what Android wants to achieve (anything to everyone it seems).

ps3ud0

Thanks m4rk84
I have a fair few questions though...

- Any way to change the Notification Sounds? I'd likc different notifications sounds depending on sms, email, whatsapp, etc

- Is Live Wallpapers battery consuming?

- Anyway to quickly access the picture you just took on the camera app without closing it down and opening gallery app?

- Where on the phone are the pictures taken on the camera app kelp? In explorer i mean

- Anyway to monitor background processes to stop apps running in the background that dont need to be?

Solution to this is usually found within the various apps themselves, changing the default notification sound specifically for messages only involves going into the default messaging app then settings>notifications>choose ringtone

- Is Live Wallpapers battery consuming?

Not if they are programmed properly to only work when the screen is turned on.

- Anyway to quickly access the picture you just took on the camera app without closing it down and opening gallery app?

Can be awkward to do however swipe the screen from right to left from the middle somewhere to drag the gallery onto the screen. I admit sometimes even I forget I can do this! :p

DCIM\Camera

There is no need to do this in Android, the OS manages all of this effectively for you.

Rang them about 3.30pm and the lady said it will be Monday :-(
If I had rang earlier I could have collected it but seeing as the site showed out of delivery I didn't think to.

I was tempted to go collect mine, but It's about a 50 mile round trip to the depot.

Anyone know what they will do on Monday, as I will be at work and no one will be in the house? Will they leave it next door, or attempt another delivery?
