***The Official LG Nexus 4 Thread***

Off topic guys but where's the best place to sell my iPhone 4S 32Gb? It needs to go. Envirophone offering £240 which is kind of think is low

look on ebay, watch 5 auctions which are in the same condition (colour, locked, unlocked, scratched, etc) as your phone and wait till they all end.

once ended average the going price (add them all up and divide by 5) include postage, etc.

now take this average number minus 15% from it (multiply the going rate by 0.85), this takes care of ebay and paypal fees.

now take that number and minus £10 from it (postage and package fees).

you now have the amount you will be left over once you sell your phone on ebay. compare this to recycle places (there are recycle comparison engines out there) and make a decision.

Only thing with eBay is they will take 10%, and PayPal will take 6%. So remember to take off 16% of what you think you might get!

I'm looking to sell my iPhone 4 16GB, so going to try a CEX and cash converter shops to see how they compare to the online recycle websites...

Try this website to see how much the going rate is mobilevaluer.com/

paypal take 6%? since when, i always thought it was 3.5%-5% plus 20p

I don't see how that would work. You have no guarantee that the camera will capture the true colours of the device, nor can you ensure proper colour reproduction on most monitors. Not to mention that every nexus screen is slightly different so the results will vary (although you can't get much worse than stock gamma on nexus loll). Best to try it out yourself.

I'm sure somebody posted a comparison on xda, though. Search in the PA thread, display colours one and faux's kernel thread.

True :)

But it will give a rough idea as to the difference, especially when you see the banding test.

As long as a good camera is used :p, they would be viewed on a calibrated Dell u2331h monitor.

I would, but I don't have a nexus device :p :(

Thanks will have a look and if I come across any good comparisons, I'll post the photos here.

A quick question... if i only intend to use the stock ROM.. is there any benefit or need for me to unlock and root my phone?

If ever down the line you decide to change your mind, you will loose all data. So you could just do it now to be ready for if you ever want to change your mind...

some apps require root, therefore you should always root your phone imo, regardless of whether you want to stay stock or not.

titanium backup pro is one such app, which is essential imo, comes in useful when changing rom's or upgrading phones, etc.

there are no disadvantages of rooting, only advantages.

unless of course you are clumsy enough to click on stupid links or attachments which contain viruses.

Fair point, I'd take the pictures myself, but my compact camera is rather poor at colour reproduction.

They go for £300 ish on ebay, so it's around the same deal when you include ebay and paypal fees, and add postage on top.

I'd advise Gumtree, since you should be able to fetch £275-300 for it. Or AV Forums, but going rates over there are generally lower.

Should i use the Wug's Nexus Root Toolkit v1.6.2 or is it better to do it manually? So i just need to unlock and then root the phone correct?

Nandroid backups (who doesn't want a full backup of their phone?), Custom kernels (better battery life, faster, gamma fix, wakelock fix, etc.), Cerberus (best Android security tool ever?), Adaway (blocking ads globally), ROM Toolbox Pro or similar for full device control.

It really does *unlock* your device.

I used the tool on both my Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 several times, it's the best hassle-free solution that I've ever used.

On top of rooting, it will allow you to flash custom recovery, fastboot, flash ROMs and kernels, do a full backup of your phone, update it, and many more.

It'll still look worse than sAMOLED.

/troll :p.

Well...

SAMOLED has wider colour gamut (more saturated colours), but colour reproduction accuracy suffers. For someone used to calibrated displays, it is a PITA at times.

Whilst SAMOLED has deeper blacks, IPS panels, like the one in Nexus 4, have brighter and truer whites.

Lastly, SAMOLED's advantage is higher pixel response time, so everything might seem more fluid in motion, but N4's advantage is higher effective resolution (SAMOLED uses Pentile matrix) and higher pixel density, resulting in noticeably sharper screen.

Depending on your usage, SAMOLED can have measurably lesser strain on battery (dark colours), or the complete opposite (bright colours, especially white). LCD panels use uniform backlit so the battery drain depends on that.

This also go for when you use your phone the most. LCD IPS displays look much better in direct sunlight, whereas SAMOLED will shine the most at night.

I'd say it's swings and roundabouts, depending on your use and preference. I prefer the sharper and more accurate display on my Nexus 4 for general browsing and use. Wouldn't mind having a SAMOLED+ on my Nexus 7, though.

if I use Wug's Nexus Root Toolkit v1.6.2 tool, to unlock and then root, should i also flash a custom "recovery-clockwork-6.0.2.3-mako.img" too?

Is there anything special about the mains charger for these? Or will any micro usb mains charger do?

I need a spare one to keep at work.
