***The Official LG Nexus 4 Thread***

The idea is for a more consistent feel. No matter which way you hold the phone they will always be in the same place.
I think a big issue with it is the colour of the bar. Razr i has a much more attractive semi transparent bar.

It would be nice to adjust the transparency of the bar. That may come in a custom rom. Even so in use of the on screen buttons for a month now you do not miss the little space at the bottom of screen. Also from having the physical buttons the One S and X which could blaze away regardless the on screen buttons are a step in the right direction. I don't think there's any going back to physical buttons now anyway?

Nexus asked me elsewhere would I consider a Nexus 4? Got to say I'm not keen on the glass back. I carry my phone glass towards my leg for protection having broken a screen carrying phone with screen out in pocket. Glass back looks way to fragile for me. Kevlar backs all the way for me :D

One of the reasons I am flashing Paranoid Android when it hits the Nexus 4 :p

Different colour bars etc :D

You're living in the past if you want physical buttons on the phone. ish

I don't know, plent of current high end phones ( Apple/Samsung.) are sticking with buttons.
Now that we are getting whones where the display takes up all/ most of the front surface of the phone, I too would like the whole screen to be used for more useful display and and buttons on the side or somewhere else.

Well, just sold my S2 on another forum, so let's hope I get my order in for the Nexus 4 before it sells out, and they don't take an age to deliver it, as I'm stuck with a 3 year old Blackberry until it arrives! :p

Using my Nexus7 again last night I was reminded that although I love it in many ways, Android's soft buttons at the bottom of the screen are a regular annoyance (especially when entering text). I frequently end up leaving an app unexpectedly, and on a smaller screen I suspect my finger fumbling may result in even more hassle.

On the 7 I also end up hitting the on/off button when fumbling for the volume control as well. That's not applicable to the 4, but thinking about this does remind me that I'm not totally convinced by Google's ergonomic ideas. I may just be particularly clumsy, but either way, my initial techno-lust has started to fade.

For me this is still a very expensive phone though, right at the top end of anything I'd ever consider, so I was probably always likely to find something to be put off by. So I remain interested but not committed any more.

Actually you raise a good point. I too have occasionally done this with the onscreen buttons on the Razr i when inputting text

Having second thoughts after reading Adam Outler's analysis of the innards. Not sure how careful the old man is with gadgets so don't want to buy him something that's gonna go b0rk after a few weeks. Wait and see I guess.

I think i'm pretty much set on getting one of these now since I used my Samsung Galaxy S2 as a coaster for my big glass of water in my sleep over the weekend. :o

Other than the obvious memory difference between the two, is there anything else spec wise that warrants the £50 additional price that i'm missing? I'm trying to decide which to go for.

Also, have details of any contracts been released yet other than those on the carphone warehouse (from £31 p/m)? I don't mind paying for it outright but if there are some good contract deals around then i'll just go for them instead.

Exactly the same apart from the memory. It may work out cheaper to buy the phone outright, and then get a cheap sim free contact to go with it. A lot of the contracts seem fairly expensive considering how cheap the phones actually are!

always buy em outright, hate contracts, i pay £10 per month from vodafone for 600mins, unlimited text and 1.5gig internet.

tbh if you get this on contract im damn sure you wont see the saving that google have intended, by this i mean you wont get a discounted contract over a GS3 for example.

Yeah, i'm very much leaning towards the buy outright and then get a sim only deal on top. I'm hoping to keep my next phone for a couple of years, upgrading every year is getting silly and the £35 a month contract is such a waste of money.

I think google are really onto something here. I know so many people who are on 18/24 month contracts and break their phone midway through only to go and buy a cheaper phone due to not being able to afford the £400-£500 sim-free price of the top phones.

The Nexus 4 seems a real alternative for people who break their contract phone.

Question: Anyone know of a sim-only deal that lasts 12months or less and has 1gb or more data usage, 500mins or so and not many texts (don't need them)? Cheaper the better.

Three do a sim-only 12 month plan for £12.90 with 600mins 5000txts and 1GB data. You can get £50 cashback on it as well through quidco so if you deduct the £50 it works out at about £8.75 per month over the 12 months. :)
