***The Official LG Nexus 4 Thread***

i would say it is terrible tbh

I wouldn't. The auto-focus is too aggressive which usually means I feel the need to take a couple of photos so I know I've got at least one good one, but that's about it, generally the shots it takes are fine.

Could be better? Absolutely. Something to complain about? Not really; you buy a cheap phone, you expect there to be certain shortcomings.

Oh well on my 3rd back now. Dropped it hard while on the booze in Germany at a Bruce Springsteen concert. Had a hard case on but hard impact

Yeah the camera is OK. Its just not as forgiving if you are moving. A steady hand and a bit of care you get a great shot. The S3 and phones up from that are better and allow for on the fly shot. But I'm still happy with the N4 and again for the price there is no better phone

The bravia engine won't work with stock android, it is a sony software thing that only works with Sony's gallery/media app, just like the way zoe etc. won't work for the htc one nexus nor will any of the smart stuff, air gestures for the GS 4 nexus edition.

Camera might not be as good as the normal XZ either since Sony rely largely on software processing too. Software optimisation is just as important as the hardware.

Plus personally I think the nexus screen is better "overall" than the xperia Z, nexus 4 has better viewing angles and doesn't look as washed out (supposedly an update has improved those two things somewhat, however, again that update/fix might not be present on the XZ nexus edition), the 1080P res. is only noticeable for browsing/text based stuff.

Camera might be better sony have done a **** poor job with its software optimization on the XZ, remember the GS4 uses the same sony sensor.

lol nexus screen is poor to XZ, the latest firmware fixes the washed out look and the black status and nav bars make the viewing angles look better still not perfect but really not that bad either.

Indeed, same with the oppo find 5, however, Samsung are generally always much better than the other companies when it comes to the software optimisation for the camera.

The software has always let the nexus phones down, biggest difference was with the nexus S compared to the GS 1, both same hardware iirc, however, the NS looked horrible in comparison, especially the video recording.

I haven't seen the XZ with that update yet, will try to check one out that does have that update, what version is it?

That is just my opinion :p Yes it is sharper and text looks better and you have more content fitted in, but it is only really noticeable when it comes to browsing. I can't stand even slightly washed out screens where colours etc. start to go as soon as you view from a certain angle, even the smallest I found. My friends nexus 4 has much better viewing angles and doesn't appear as washed out. Also, last time I looked at it, the blacks were beyond awful, most of the screen actually turns to more or less light grey once you viewed it from a certain angle, has that been fixed/improved? EDIT: And this was in brightly lit conditions so in dim/lower light and especially dark (i.e. when in bed at night) conditions it would be more noticeable.

Screen never turned white it wasnt that bad thats just over exaggeration.

That might have been a defective model.

.253 firmware has the improved contrast.

Yeah, white is a bit too over the top :p Edited my post to say light grey instead, there are loads of photos and videos out there that show more or less the same results:

Thanks, next time I am near a phone shop, I'll stop in and have a look.

Just had shipment confirmation... should I expect it delivered tomorrow?

Edit: Looks like it might be, already has a consignment number, is expected into Darlington tonight with delivery tomorrow. Colour me impressed :p

Phone arrived today around 11am, so yeah almost bang on 24hrs.

Lovely looking phone, just need to get back into Android mode again :)

Now.... case or no case is the next decision.

I have the Ringke fusion, official Google bumper and the latest revision poetic borderline bumper (in blue).

My vote goes with the poetic bumper, while the official bumper looks nice it adds too much width to the phone in my opinion and doesn't feel great in the hand. The Fusion I really don't like, the clear back gets the inevitable dust underneath it and it scratches easily.
The Poetic fits just as well as the official bumper but doesn't add as much bulk and just feels better in the hand, everybody varies though :)

Hi,

i have had a nexus 4 since launch and had no problems, the g/f has just bought 1 and it arrived today but the wifi is running VERY slow. I have looked online and there seems to be a lot of issues regarding this.

can anyone provide any suggestions as to why 1 phone has slow wifi and both connected to the same network?

any help greatly appreciated
