***The Official LG Nexus 4 Thread***

Always think the exact same thing!

so many mods out there that make pretty much everything better, be it the camera, sound, performance, battery life etc. etc.

Not just for mobiles but pretty much every tech. product out there especially games! SweetFX configs make every single game look 100 times better (pretty much changes the contrast, brightness etc.)

But if the comnpnaies got it right in the first place what would these "geeks" have to do? Let the companies produce servicable products and let others make them better.

I'm having a problem using the phone as a satnav while driving. It keeps stopping charging then the battery steadily drains. I have a feeling it's overheating and I imagine the perfect skins layer over the glass probably isn't helping. Has anyone had any similar problems and does anyone have any ideas how to get round this? I'm thinking about switching to a car vent mount and running the air con, but this seems a little extreme!

franco.Kernel really does make a difference, as do most of the custom kernels, I'd expect. Battery life is much improved, and performance is similar. No harm in trying IMO :)

I kept going back and forth between stock but there was an appreciable difference in battery life with franco.

But... But... I really want one. :(

No point getting it from Google if you want to return it. They hold onto your refund for like 21 working days before making a return payment.

The phone is awesome though. Just don't run any tests on it. Use it without looking for faults.

All this talk of using the Franco kernel makes me wonder if it is actually worth bothering with?

Did LG/Google happen to miss something when designing the phone that a geek in his bedroom has managed to do better? If so, they must really suck at their jobs.

Franco kernel is great (and so are most of the other custom android kernels). It has a perfectly valid place in any tinkerer's arsenal. The stock kernel is designed for consumer use, to be as stable and conservative as possible, so it stands to reason that someone with the right knowledge in the dev community could make something that performs better without the same q/a standards.

best ROM i have found is Xenon HD, and kernel is faux Kernel.

esp paired with the sound apps from faux123, and his fauxclock control app, which you can use to overclock/votlage adjust/ colour control/vibration control etc

Damn, its a micro sim card slot and my retro desire only has a normal size one.
Virgin bizarrely will send a sim out whihc takes 4 days but kills my sim now? So I'll try cutting it 1st.
Just want to play with it now.

Take it into a shop and have them cut it down for you?
