***The Official LG Nexus 4 Thread***

So basically I've been forbidden from buying this phone, so I guess I'm going to have to continue with this DHD that has duct tape on it, and a battery that lasts about half a day :(

by who? if you say the women, may i remind you that you are the MAN and a bitch slap may be in order

The problem is that the other reviews tend to just talk about aesthetics and the new version of jellybean, they dont run programs on the phones or really tax them.

Yep, this is what I was thinking. As far as performance the reviews I've read don't seem to go beyond how quickly you do basic things, and its all very nice that its swift for stuff like this but what about the rest.

I don't want to be down on the device, but its kinda put me off personally, I think I'll be waiting until its been out for a bit.

My concern on the thermal issue is that this issue was necer spotted by review of the o2x. It became evident after a month or two of use. It seems that google may be using an aggressive throttling policy to protect against this.

i hear your concerns, but 2 year warranty and one persons view is not enough to worry about for me. + the fact i will keep my galaxy nexus for a while.

JB should be great on the One S.

ICS on the GNex I have just bought was very noticeable jerky (very noticeable to me as I'm use to JB on the S3 - JB Project Butter really spoils you).

However when I applied the update to JB - OMFG! Runs 99% as speedy and smooth as the S3! That's this like general UI scrolling and browser speeds. Will test more as time goes by.

I was genuinely shocked at the difference from ICS to JB. It's such an eye opener and shows that top end hardware isn't needed for great performance when the software is this good.

Yup, really am looking forward to getting the jellybean/sense + update, from reading around, the reviews of it (the sense version), it does sound excellent, apart from project butter, I am more looking forward to all the new sense stuff :o :p

Shame it probably isn't going to hit my phone till at least December or January :(

Indeed the GN with JB is a really superb phone with jellybean now, aside from the camera and it is pretty good value these days iirc around £200?

I thought you were getting the nexus 4 as your backup phone? Or are you still going to get one anyway? :p

Not when my only sources of income are the government and my parents.

Join an agency, get work at a shop/delivery firm. It's Christmas peak. At my place we are picking up additional staff at around 10/11 a day. They will let you go after January sales, but its a fair bit of cash in your pocket. New phone!

I wish I could mate. A job would be awesome, new phone would be great. Just not got enough time on my hands. Always studying, even during christmas hols I'll be studying.

I wouldn't wan't a phone without JB now - it makes such a big difference :)

Hopefully it comes sooner that later for you (sense stuff - shame on you :o:o) - if not then root! :D

£200 new...where! I got mine from Amazon for £270 - I love the design. Screen is great too, don't know why some reviews say the new screen will be soo much better just because its RGB over Pentile. High 300+ppi pentile is fine by me. I will say the whites aren't so white - but there's colour/gamma adjustment in the PA ROM I will flash so its ok.

Only thing I really miss is the 2GB RAM :D.

Nexus 4 is still on the cards - it just needs to be excellent for me to get one now - hopefully I can talk a family member into getting one :D

ebay iirc (new), although I haven't checked on the prices for a few months now. I imagine that once the nexus 4 is out, will start seeing a lot of etailers selling the GN for £200 or less, they would have too if they want to continue to sell them! :D :p

Yup I really like the design too, it feels great in the hand

The screen is great and indeed as usual review sites blow stuff like pentile matrix way out of proportion :o :p

I personally much preferred the colours of the GN screen to the GS 2 screen, I just found the GS 2 screen to be too vibrant/saturated where as with the GN, it just felt nicer on the eyes.

:D

I'd say the screen and processing power are the main things I'm interested in from the Nexus 4. My GNex's screen is good on high brightness, but on low it's very grainy and suffers from ghosting. It's a great phone overall though, I bought it full price on release and it has been worth it. Better than either the HOX or SGS3 I had.

yeah i will take a buggy stock nexus over one any other phone..

No one has had a stock Nexus yet. The ones in reviews are running unfinished software. One (can't remember which, but it is in this thread) has said there is an update due on the 11th. Hopefully this will be final version.

I did have a good look on ebay - Best I could find for new from a shop was £250 ish. I love Amazon though - their customer service is fantastic and the phone has 24 months warranty too.

Used prices on AVForums for a mint one is still over £200 delivered. I also dislike used phones :p

No doubt price will drop come Nex4 launch - by how much? we will see.

Yep screen colours is a fair bit less saturated than the S2/S3. I prefer that too as SAMOLED is a bit too saturated at times. 110% sRGB is nice, S2 is like 130% :D

Can't wait to see and use the Nexus 4 in person though - need to sample that screen and build quality!

Would also avoid "used" phones like the plague, unless refurbished by shops like what 3 do, complete new casing, new battery and new screen too

Likewise :) Will be interesting to see how it stacks up to the one X & iphone 5 screens.

well thats even better news as most reviews are glowing even on the beta

Don't expect much difference with a software update, or any difference at all.

They'll leave major niggles for an update after that I imagine, 4.2.1.
