***The Official LG Nexus 4 Thread***

I'm going to the O2 Speed Rating event in Covent Garden tomorrow where I'll be able to play with one of these handsets. I will come back with a review :)

Nice one,

Can you see if you can play any games to see how hot it will get if possible.

I would also like to know how the colours are compared to the S2 if you've ever used a S2 before.

Out of everything the most important thing for me is the screen! :p

My S2 used to get hot at the back near the camera so that isn't really a biggy to me.

another good review at android police ---------- Massive ------in depth review

http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/1...premium-flagship-phone-that-android-deserves/

"Normally a Nexus device is worthy of your consideration just for the software, but this is the first Nexus where the hardware is also a huge selling point. It so thoroughly, completely outclasses every other phone design, it's kind of embarrassing.
The best-looking, best-feeling, most powerful Android phone is a Nexus. How can anyone say no to that? I'm not giving this review unit back until my personal one arrives."

The N7 is in bricks n mortar shops at same price as the Play store, or £10 cheaper depending on where you go.

How long after its initial release they got there though I don't know.

yes but the pre order was up weeks before, this time we cant order, so i imagine some delay before high street shops... however i hope im wrong

oh dear another cant justify/afford it, so put it down forum goer

Eh what, i can do both of them lol.

It would cost me nothing or little to nothing to change phone from s3 to this regardless so there is the justification. I prefer the look of it to the s3 bar the onscreen buttons.

I am just gutted at the performance issues, where else am i gonna vent that but on the thread for the device lol.

The review sure has a lot to it, but the "quality" of it, isn't great imo, although it is definitely one of the better ones so far.

Again what is up with the battery comments and screenshots

- Shows that he had no signal for most of the time and on one occasion no signal for the entire time......
- again, not fully charged to 100%

Might as well have just wrote nothing about the battery life as that is just how useless that section for that review is.

Also he says this:

Just like every other screen, it doesn't work in the sun

What exactly does he mean by that??? The one S/X and GS 3 etc. screens work superbly in direct sun shine. With my one S I don't even have to put it past the 70% brightness mark in order to easily make out what is being shown, even on dark backgrounds.

Aside from the above, every thing else about the phone sounds and looks great. Although comments on the screen are still mixed, the last review posted, stated the best screen there was, even better than the X and a few other places have said the same and we have a few sites like this one saying it is a bit washed out.

Camera is all right, nothing special and doesn't look like it can compete with the GS 3, X and S in this area and if the final software doesn't improve it then that is me out :(, even though I am getting sick with HTC and their support for updates etc.

Again though :p Taking everything with a pinch of salt until final software version and some user opinions.

...even though I am getting sick with HTC and their support for updates etc.

JB should be great on the One S.

ICS on the GNex I have just bought was very noticeable jerky (very noticeable to me as I'm use to JB on the S3 - JB Project Butter really spoils you).

However when I applied the update to JB - OMFG! Runs 99% as speedy and smooth as the S3! That's this like general UI scrolling and browser speeds. Will test more as time goes by.

I was genuinely shocked at the difference from ICS to JB. It's such an eye opener and shows that top end hardware isn't needed for great performance when the software is this good.

Just bought a sgs3 today but will still be taking one of these at launch to decide whats best for me, i have a feeling the sg3 purely because Ive bought a 64gb microsd recently

Battery seems fairly good in that review since in one of the screenshots the dude had no mobile signal the whole time, which drains battery quick.

I think those struggling to reconcile having an s3 and wanting an n4 should wait until the next version of android arrives. The s3 is phenomenal and is up to date (bar the google now revisions and swype). Enjoy the better camera and surety that LG havent manufactured the phone with a view to swapping come Key Lime Pie...

The anandtech findings have put the fear of God into me about this phone. The O2x overheated to the point of permanently fubar-ing itself on charge. Much as i love google they seem to have too many ideologues and not enough logic.

- how did they not test the benchmarking against similar phones, surely some clever bod must have realised phones are benchmarked in every review and this would stick out like a sore thumb?
- if they are aware of problems with thermal performance why have they throttled and still released? They should just fix the issue.
- i have no faith in google monitoring lg and testing the nexus 4 thoroughly. Come 2 months i genuinely could imagine a forum filled with complaints about restarting and overheating handsets.

The nexus 7 snafu with screen lift i hoped was a manufacturing hiccup but this repetition of manufacturers just being left to get on with it the production while google works with the software is clearly not working and detrimental.

Google have done so well on so many things witb this phone the main one being the price, but undercutting that with **** poor implementation (coupled with the google play store being a disaster for customer support) is massively sad. This is why people will go to apple over google.

Apologies for the disaster scenario but it is in everyone's interest thay this phone is a huge success as it could depress sim free phone prices across the boars.

It's really making my upgrade decision harder.. I am moving from IOS to Android, and want to get the very best possible phone available right now.

For me, that is really two choices, namely, Galaxy S3 (hopefully the 64gb version due soon), or HTC One X +.
The Nexus 4 looks good, and having vanilla Android sounds good, but is the phone really that much better? Would it have been so hard to have offered a 32, or 64gb version too? Storage is dirt cheap right now.
Also, put in a better camera optics?

I will certainly await for reviews on release models of the Nexus 4 before making any decisions, but based on the over heating issues, I may be leaning more towards the HTC now..

you base all this on one persons findings, all the other reviews have been postive, he could have had a dud phone... seriously calm down and wait for it to be released

Also means the review may not be entirely objective...

not always the case

The Good
The most premium-feeling Android phone in existence. It's so rigid that it feels like one solid block of glass. It's not slippery, either; the rubbery sides give a great grip. Other phones feel like Happy Meal toys in comparison.
The design is stunning. The front keeps the Galaxy Nexus' pure-black good looks, without a single logo to screw up the minimal design. The back occasionally flashes an attractive, subtle hologram design when the light hits it just right, and everything has been rounded to nicely fit into your hand. Again, it completely outclasses other Android phones.
It's really fast. Everything from complicated website scrolling to Google Earth runs effortlessly. Some software hasn't quite caught up to it, but this is the fastest phone you can buy. With its super-fast internals and 2 gigs of RAM, plus direct updates from Google, it should age very well.
Stock Android. Not only is it clean and functional, it's quickly becoming one of the most beautiful computing platforms anywhere.
It's an unlocked Nexus device. You don't have to deal with a half-baked skin, you'll be the first with updates, you can get a cheap prepaid plan, you're allowed to root it, and you won't have to deal with monopolistic carriers blocking certain apps because they plan on competing with those apps in the future.

The bad
Limited storage options. 16GB and with no SD card means you'll be keeping a lean supply of offline media.
No LTE.
The camera is serviceable, but can't compete with the sensor in other high-end phones, like the GSIII.
They could have done a better job with the buttons and the chrome rim, both feel pretty cheap and plasticy.
The battery life is decent, but the non-removable battery is a bummer."

Yes, it doesn't seem too bad when you look at the good and bad points.

I think a 30 page thread on XDA will make or break things like the battery life at least, people seem completely incapable of judging it properly (as Nexus keeps pointing out).

Still, for the money? Bargain whatever way you look at it.

This phone looks amazing having read a lot of the reviews.
Two things are consistently bad and will sting:

The camera
The screen

^both very, very important imo.
Washed our colours? Not very bright? Poor blacks? It will feel like a big downgrade from the One X screen...
