***The Official LG Nexus 4 Thread***

It is called resale value ;)

I guess there is that if you change your phone quite often. Myself its every 2-3 years so by then there will be little difference in the price I get for it regardless of condition as I will be lucky to get 50 quid for it. Also I'm a farmer so I would be fighting a losing battle if I tried to keep it mint, so I just admit defeat from day 1.

Tbf the nexus 4 could very well have build issues that the reviewers haven't picked up on yet I.e.

IPhone 5 and its chipping issues and how easily it scratches

The black one s and its chipping problems as well as signal issues for the majority of people and a few other problems

The nexus 7 and all the problems it had like screen lift

One x and all the issues it had like the screen flex/problems, WiFi issues etc.

Iirc no review sites mentioned any of the above issues not even gsmarena, however users noticed these problems within like 2 weeks of owning the items.

Let's not forget that before the GNex launched there was also a lot of trash-talking going on... "oh this phone isn't powerful enough" "the design is poor" "it's made of plastic"

In the end, you can't beat the feel and performance of the phone in your hand and for many of us that's going to be the dealbreaker. I don't see anything wrong with people airing their concerns right now, because the phone isn't out yet, but once it is and you can try it in a store everyone should make their own decision on whether it's right for them.

Exactly :)

Mine would have been immaculate if i didn't drop it getting out of my mates van

All I used was a Neoprene sleeve, No screen protector or anything like that. Infact I've ordered another Neoprene sleeve for this phone too :p

Where from and how much ?

I know that but a lot of people are like it with the higher priced gadgets.

This is true as well. I never put my S2 in the same pocket as anything else. I'll admit i am clumsy :p

Gorilla glass should survive sharing a pocket with keys just fine. My Lumia 710 is unscathed.

Is this still looking like a great phone for the price? Doesn't seem to be anything positive on the last few pages :p

I think it depends which of the negatives actually matter to you, I don't care about things like no 4G and no removable battery for example, but some people might. It also depends on whether you think some of the potential issues may actually be a problem or not, I think its a case of wait and see for any definitive answers. Personally I'm still keen but will be waiting a few weeks to see, but its an individual choice.

Edit - very few trolls and haters tbh, mainly just people discussing.

Of course it is, people are just paranoid about LG. Whilst LG have had their quality issues with mobiles, Google will have surely had their own quality checklist on top of LGs internal quality measures.

What you have to remember is this: For a bargain price you're getting:
  • The best SoC found in any Android smart phone
  • A high PPI screen with zero gap technology - most reviewers are saying it's washed out but are comparing it to AMOLED that over saturates colours
  • Built in wireless technology
  • Whilst it's not Motorola MAXX sized, the battery size is pretty good and also has some LG refinements
  • Runs stock Android for quick updates and no bloat (some manufacturer additions are value adding but a lot is also bloat)
  • A BSI camera sensor which appears to be capable but not best on market like the f2.0 sensor in the One series

Every phone has its downsides and the chrome bezel, built in battery and lack of expandable storage slot appear to be the downsides to the Nexus 4.

Are those excusable downsides for a phone that has clearly had to make certain sacrifices in order to hit a certain retail price? For me they are.

Yes lol, despite my thoughts on the bezel I still think it's a great device. The rest of the build quality is top notch, no creaking and I like the holographic effect on the glass. The front is good too - no logos or buttons, just the screen which is like the old Nexus.

I'm going to find a nice case for it first if I do buy it, already sent an email to joli originals :)

Hi Alex,

Thanks for your message and thanks for coming back to us!

No, we're sticking to Apple only for now. We're a really small company, only with two and we're working from home. We simply don't have the time for more devices. :-)

D'oh :(

After the Nexus 7 issues I'm not sure Google have a quality check list :p

This review seems to have the best explanation of the performance issues yet. Also it is performing about where I would expect it to perform with this. Ignore the unfair Sunspider and Octane tests though as that says more about Chrome on Android then the phone (Optimus G result is with it's own browser while the Nexus is tested using Chrome).

So it seems the Nexus 4 is going into tasks full throttle meaning more upfront speeds but faster overheating then its brother the Optimus G which has careful power restraints that limit the upfront power and temps.

Despite the issues the performance is fine, sure the CPU is restricted by heat rather then by the limits of it's own power, however it is still the fastest Android phone in existence.

Gorilla Glass wont get scratched by normal keys, ever. Because Science.

Don't take your phone to a beach or let your wife handle it (if she wears diamonds etc) then you'll be fine.

Good review.

My question is - would internet browsing, multitasking with whatsapp, occasional youtube video etc be enough to make the phone go into hyper drive and cause it to heat up to the levels it needs to be throttled? Or are these issues only when the phone is put under extreme and prolonged usage ie. benchmarks?

If i use it just for looking at the internet, whatsapp, google maps, will i avoid the phone getting too hot?
