***The Official LG Nexus 4 Thread***

Anyone heard/know anything about the initial stock? Is there likely going to be a good number of units, or sellout in 5 mins like an iPhone launch?

This might be a fantastic phone going for a song, but remember it's had virtually no marketing and the mainstream press has barely mentioned it. Joe iPhone Bloggs won't be interested, so hopefully that'll give us techies a bit more chance of getting one :D

I've got 2 to order now, as my mate is a lightweight and won't stop up for it! (It has NOTHING to do with him being at work at 5AM!)

I'm staying up no later than 12:30 tonight, if it's not available by then I will just check before I go to work in the morning and hope they are not sold out!

What a wimp. I to have to be up at 5am, but ill be setting another alarm for 1155pm.

Tho I could ask the missus to do it, tho she'd probably order the 8 gig or one from the US.

Sorry not kept up with this - is the pricing just a launch price or something? Not sure why people are 'camping' out if its standard pricing unless you think it will be sold out for months?

Im really tempted myself, just havent had the time to work out what Ill lose moving to Android, the whole compatibility of apps just puts me off...

Well I doubt it will be sold out for months, however I expect the delivery estimate to change from days to weeks after the first day of sale.

I think it's due to the bargain it seems to be, that and the off chance it will sell out.

This worried me too, but the money I save not buying a iPhone 5 should easily cover the price of the apps I have to buy again. Not that I could get an iPhone, twice I walked into Apple Regents Street last week to be told I couldn't just walk in and buy one, and three times I tried to reserve for pickup with no luck, and then I discovered the Nexus 4.

I had a iP5 but returned it due to scuffgate and decided not to get a replacement til I knew it was gonna get sorted, now with EE being silly with 4G its an opportunity to try a more mature Android product and I wouldnt get anything but a Nexus (well anything Google 'made') so the Nexus 4 kinda has turned up at the perfect time.

The main concern I have isnt losing iOS apps but the quagmire that appears to be Android apps and which devices they support, Sky Go seesm to be a good and extreme example of this so unsure if this might become the standard in the future.

I honestly thought buying something with the Nexus brand meant complete compatability (hell if I was Google Id make sure all apps built worked on my flagship devices) but it doesnt appear to be a given - thats the main concern I really have as Im just not interested in fiddling too much just to get back to square 1.

Ill try and get one ordered tonight and have a good play around with it while its under DSR I guess - really should have spent more time getting my head around what benefits I really get.

Edit: Perhaps I need to make a new thread on this - I swear Im more confused than anything as there doesnt seem to be a middle ground for Android user (youre either a dumb one that uses it as pretty much a standard phone with smartphone benefits (ooo facebook!), or one that seemingly knows more non-standard ways about getting apps on your device. Im neither but I feel theres no real place for me as Im not interested into becoming either extreme - hell Id actively avoid that)

Feels like your reading too much into the OS based on one bad egg (SkyGo) which will have JellyBean support soon and is in testing, I can't think of any other app in this situation that is popular and delivers a service. I would hardly describe one app in this situation as a "quagmire" for the entire OS?

With the Nexus 4 you will have the compatibility you desire going forward that is for sure.

For the fact I need to ask makes it in my mind a quagmire, I just always thought its a safe assumption in life that when you go for a flagship product you end up with the one that has the most features or support - with Android though it seems thats an exception, and I just dont understand why (I get the hardware situation and tbh thats easily researched/understood).

I completely understand that Sky Go is both a good and bad example of this (Tom Toms another), but its hard to work out if thats an exception or indicative of the future (these arent one man band developers making unpopular apps), especially considering the amount of Android devices that developers now need to vaguely attempt to cater for against the fact its not as profitable as other platforms compared to effort involved with ubiquitous support.

Right now Id agree with your last statement (as I would have said with previous Nexus releases) but it seems to fall by the wayside far quicker than Id like and even your assurance isnt a guarantee - its quite a viscious circle which Google really need to fix.

Because Android does have these little niggles, some things wont work on your particular phone. It would appear this is the kind of thing that will annoy you and you can't really get away from that on Android, that's how it is.

On a related subject, what do people think a flagship phone is? I wouldn't say the Nexus 4 is a flagship device. I still don't think it's as good as the S3. Sure, it's Google's own phone which they will bring 4.2 to us with, but relating to the above, this means it is much much less likely to be compatible with everything.
