*** The Official macOS Ventura thread ***

Just reading that Ars review now. Wondering why does the M1 Mac use 28.51GB of SSD space but the Intel is half that at 14.9GB. Is there a massive amount of Intel code still in Apple Silicon macOS?

Their numbers don't make sense. I clearly recall using ~15GB of storage when I installed a fresh Monterey on an M1 mac. If you Google it you'll find similar numbers. Ars says it's 30GB. Something is wrong with their setup.

happy so far.

safari is much snappier, as is the OS in general. I had around 91gb free space left on my MBP (only 128gb storage) and now since Ventura I have around 99gb free.

not that I need the space but its impressive how a new OS and features can free up so much space, saving me the hassle of doing a clean install, which I usually like doing.

It's dropped support for quite a few slightly older Macs, all the drivers and framework for those models are no longer needed.

Is it the next MacOS that drops support for Intel? As I imagine that will be quite something in terms of responsiveness and being frugal on space.

I think my MBP 2017 will not be supported next yeah. But yeah, as intel was built unto what? 2019? It will surely be supported for a couple of iterations to come?

One thing i really don't like is that Ventura seems to a big ol' leap to blurring the lines between MacOS and iPadOS/iOS; it seems like unnecessary dumbing down when there's no real need on a desktop OS. It also appears to be another FU to corps and those that use MacOS for work rather than what Apple thinks everyone uses it for, aka Candy Crush and PH.

And items that run at login no longer have the option to hide them so I'm getting multiple apps appearing on my screen when I boot.
If they don't break it out to GUI then hopefully you'll be able to set it via preference files, although i haven't seen anything yet which is a little worrying. It is an utterly stupid idea though, especially in corp environments, likewise with IP tracking being enabled by default as it seems to really fudge with internal DNS and VPN.

Decided to go through with the upgrade last night. First thing I've noticed is how quickly I can log into my outlook work emails through safari. Previously it would be painfully slow (30-60 seconds) but now it snaps straight in.

Feels snappier overall particaulry Safari. One issue I have came across is the HDMI output now flickers every so often I upgraded my personal machine but left my work one, only does it on my personal machine following the upgrade to Ventura. It's very annoying quick Google shows this has been an issue for some M1 machines since they were introduced but I've never had it until after the upgrade.

EDIT After some testing can resolve it by using a USB-C to HDMI adaptor. Anyone aware of any USB-C hub that supports 3 4k monitors ?

I had a weird issue yesterday when I upgraded my M1 MM to Ventura.

It installed OK then booted straight into 13.0 and the screen seemed very washed out and not vibrant at all, so I restarted the machine, and it was great.

Since booting up several times since, its been a non issue.

Saw it on betas but it still seems to be the case that Ventura will preference DoT/DoH/secure DNS resolvers over unsecure and will completely ignore the primary if that's the case.
Didn't get this in previous versions of MacOS and i can't find any official documentation on it, so unsure if it's a "feature", a bug, a system issue our end (have only tested it within VM's rather than "metal") or if there's a way of disabling it.

Stage manager is definitely growing on me.
I'm not sure how to use it in my current workflow. Do you have any tips?

On my laptop, I generally have Safari open, Apple Music, Discord, an IDE and either an eBook or PDF of documentation. I need to swap between them or use Rectangle Pro to put two of them on the same screen. My desktop is pretty much the same, except I have three monitors attached.

I kind of like Stage Manager so far. I wouldn't normally have the dock hidden but with Stage Manager holding the open apps, I feel that the dock can get out of the way now.
