***The Official Manly Shaving Thread***

I went for my first ever cut throat shave earlier and damn I don't think my face has felt this smooth since before I hit puberty.

Think I'll have to invest in some proper shaving gear rather then the usual Gillette stuff I've currently got.

Once I get to grips with the R89, what would people recommend as the next step? I find the R89 quite light so perhaps something with some weight behind it as I find myself trying to do the work of the razor sometimes.

I went for the Merkur 38C Barberpole as it's heavier but still go back to the R89 regularly.

Bought some shaving oil from Asda for a quid today, gonna give it a whirl later

Tried the oil but not sure it was the right time as I was also trying to learn how to use the cutthroat so can't tell if it was any good or not, will try tomorrow with my DE and then I can make comparisons.

Also please don't try and learn to use a cutthroat whilst having the Foo Fighters blaring out, the end results may not be what you quite want ;-(

Can I asked a question?

I shave everyday, the skin feels smooth after shaving but problem is that it still looks unshaved, is it due to my skin colour? Anyone else have similar problem or suggestions?

My face feels smooth every morning too after a shave but you can still see that it's a slightly darker shade where the hairs used to be if I dry shave. Wet shave and no problem. Sometimes I prefer one or the other.

I travel more often nowadays so didn’t go ahead with the proper razor way in the end and instead picked up a new Panasonic ES-RF31-S based on positive reviews all over the web. Needed a wet/dry that left a clean and smooth result without the skin itchiness I found with Braun models that cost more. Seems to be very good, the 4 blades work well and battery life is still showing "High" after ~2 weeks of daily use.

... Hey guys what are those pitchforks for?

Cheers Maundie the 38c did catch my eye so glad you suggested it. Is the head heavier or just the pole (:D)

It's 2 piece as oppose to 3 which the Muhle is so hard to judge, the pole is definately heavier but it would class as the pole with the bottom bit on in relation to the Muhle.

Hope that makes sense !?!?

If you like the head, why not try matching it with a heavier handle. The UFO stuff is good but has a very long shipping time.

My favourite combo is the 89 head with an Above The Tie 'Atlas' handle.

First shave with a shavette this evening. Didn't really know what I was doing so took it slow. Quite scary really as there's no safety net if you slip. Not a bad result though, and no cuts!

As part of my final year project at University we are having to put together a business plan for a proposed idea from a client to create a website selling double edged razors.

We are currently just collecting some primary research and it would be much appreciated if you could spare a minute or two to complete the below survey.

Thanks

Just tried some LORD blades and not a fan tbh. I get a bit of red rash on the neck after shaving - any ideas how to stop this?

Usually a red rash comes from to much pressure on the blade.
Though I find poor blades usually "tug" on the hair before cutting it, pulling you skin can lead to little pin head bleeding.

Sticking with the Gilette green 7 o'clocks, very sharp comfortable shaves.
