***The Official Manly Shaving Thread***

So I'm flying on Monday and will be away for 5 days, I'm inly going Ryan Air and will only be allowed hand luggage. Therefore taking my shaving stuff will be difficult.
Getting some decent small shaving cream and shave balm isn't a problem but where do I get razor blades from? Presume I can't buy razor blades in the airport?

You can find them in most supermarkets still, normally only the 1 brand but they are there in the shaving stuff bit. Depends where you are going of course.

The last time I tried to take shaving stuff in hand luggage I got pulled aside and the blades taken out. The rest of the stuff was okay though. Edit. Was Berlin airport. Not a UK one

The adjustment clicks nicely through the numbers and the plates marry up evenly. Setting 9 is so aggressive, I doubt I'll ever set it to that! I need to give it a few more shaves to see how I get on. First impressions, very satisfied with this old razor though.

So if anyone is still interested in my travel question... I ended up taking my old electric razor just to save hassle nut I thought I'd take a look in the supermarket to see what they had anyway in DE
That had one option and it was in the same package as the Israeli mades I use the label said "Persona" which I think is the same brand? So good DE blades are available.

Just put in a shaving shack order, they're doing 10% off for April and I had cashback from quidco. I wanted to restock on shaving cream (I got this this first bowl quite fast) I was hoping to try soap as it looked like it would last longer, ideally i would have had TOBS Mr Taylors soap, but this fragrance only comes in cream and not soap so I went with cream again (only £10 a pot full price which is their cheapest scent!), also got myself a chrome bowl, 100 Isreali blades and a free sample of hair product.

Okay, I'm looking to up my shave a little bit Currently I only lather, shave and then stick on some post balm / moisturiser. I Would like some feedback on a couple of products I'm tempted to purchase. So if anyone has tried these, feedback on how they are would be appreciated.

First up is Muhle-Pinsel Chrome Shaving Bowl. Has anyone used this? I currently have Mitchell's Wool Fat Shaving Soap and Ceramic Bowl, however, I don't feel like I always get a decent lather and the small bowl always becomes messy. I've done face lathering but it's not something I'm keen on doing.

Proraso Pre and Post Shave Cream. This is something new I would like to try out. Pre-shave is something I haven't done before but it's something I'd like to experience.

I'm also thinking about trying new blades but I'm unsure which ones. I only use Feather Hi-Stainless Double Edged Razor Blades at the moment. I've tried the Derby. I also don't have a stand for my razor, so I'm thinking about getting some Muhle Blade Guard For Double Edge Razors.

Anyone got any tips for doing a cold shave? I'm finding that i shower in the gym more than home nowadays, as a result i stopped using the DE as i was cutting myself all the time without using straight after a shower. Even with the Mach 3 i'm more hacking than gliding due to it.

I tried a hot towel which didn't make much difference, perhaps i'm wringing too much water out or not using it long enough. My stubble is really thick, particularly around the chin and neck where it's pretty much turned white. Cream i use is TOBS sandalwood if that makes any difference, i just use it as i like the smell.

Any suggestions? I don't want to resort to showering twice a day as that's daft.

Try a Wilkinson Sword Hydro. I find them really, really forgiving and somehow the latest blade in mine has lasted nearly 2 months now (used perhaps twice a week), so while you're paying more for blades I find they can last forever. Obviously it sounds as though you've got thicker hair, so they won't last as long for, and if you're shaving cold then you may need to change the blades a little earlier anyway.

Depending on the cream it can take a couple of passes to get a decent shave. I find it's not working too well with my TOBS Sandlewood, but it works really well with my Truefitt & Hill West Indian Limes cream.

Oddly the TOBS works much better with my safety razor and Gillette ProGlide (both are used rarely now though - safety razor (Feathers) when off work and ProGlide usually at the start of the week only, mainly due to the small blade for under the nose).

I have been stopped every time I fly from a UK airport with mine and asked to show them that there are no blades in the razer

Hi Guys,

I haven't had a proper/wet shave for nigh on 10 years, and I've been told for our wedding in August that I should be clean shaven (at the moment I use a beard trimmer once a week to keep a permanent stubble).

Should I start shaving between now and then to avoid having a patchy rash on the day? I have quite sensitive skin and used to get a patchy rash when shaving, so want to avoid that - although I never particularly had an issue with cuts or nicks. Any advice appreciated :)

Decided to give DE shaving a whirl, didnt want to (initially) splurge a ton of cash just in case i can't get on with it. I like the idea of those subscription services where you get to try lots of different products.

Got my first package today, i have been seriously wasting my time with the mach 3, best shave of my life. No cuts and way closer than before. Im sold :D Already been eyeing up other razors, brushes etc.

Got the razor, brush, towel, two packs of blades, proraso pre shaving cream and taylor of old bond street cream in my first order, will deff give it another month to see what i get.
