Anyone tried Phoenix and Beau, got some soap coming.

Yes, I've got one of their shaving soaps - Sanskrit.

It's very good. I like the scent (but obviously that's down to personal preference) and I can't fault the performance at all. Really high quality.

I ordered Baskerville, can't wait to see what it smells like.

Just looked it up and it sounds great. Kerry makes great soap. I was was lucky enough to test a pre-production scentless sample when he was starting up in the business a few years ago. Proper old-fashioned tallow soap, very slick. I'm sure you'll get on with it.

I've no doubt I'm hoping it'll be similar to razorock xxx which was a soft soap and I loved it.
For a soap it felt more like a cream.

Fake blades ?

Curious - there seems to be a wide range of ebay prices for Personna platinum double edge blades, is there a president for fake blades, and how would you identify the genuine article ?

HI,

you seem to have sent the wrong article ,not as pictured, please see attached image.

These are not personna platinum blades,
but are personna double edged blades.

[those are sold by other sellers eg

Please tell me how to proceed

Regards.

Thanks for that link - explains why I got on alright with the pack of cheap Tesco blades I got for christmas with my DE razor - they're likely the same Personnas you received - in which case they aren't actually a lot different from the platinums imo.

(although obviously doesn't help you as you bought blades advertised as platinums and they clearly aren't - still if you get the chance to keep them rather than return, it's worth giving them a go - or distributing on here :D)

Had my 3rd shave using the Rockwell 6S on plate 3 with a Gillette Nacet. Best shaves I've had! No irritation/razor burn on 2 tender areas on my neck. I almost feel like I couldn't cut myself if I tried (Ha Ha face full of red tissue spots next time). Very impressed. Solid piece of kit and feels well balanced in the hand. Shaving every 3 days atm

Somewhere in this thread or the previous one, I posted a link to the Personna Med Prep blades. I bought three boxes of 100 blades and I’m still not even half way through the second box. I think they worked out as about 3p/blade.

/edit - here you go.

Connaught Shaving, never seen that website before. Looks to have a good varied selection on there. Thanks

I was browsing the shaving section of Tesco yesterday, as you do (they had a two-for-one on Bulldog stuff so I picked some up), and I noticed they had the new Wilkinson Sword Classic razor on the shelf. £15, all metal, TTO (twist to open) like a Superspeed clone. I have more than enough razors already but I was sorely tempted. Anyone here use one?

Haven't used personally, but the Merkur 34c is still available and was frequently recommended for beginners
https://connaughtshaving.com/merkur34c.html

Mixed pack of popular blades (Personally I like the Personnas that are included, but it also includes Derby&Astra blades that are often recommended for beginners, as well as Feathers that can give an exceedingly close shave when you get experienced) - You will likely need to try different blades, and re-try them as your technique improves
https://connaughtshaving.com/popular.html

Taylors of Old Bond Street shaving cream - frequently recommended here, and my Wife bought me some for Christmas - smells great, and works well.
https://connaughtshaving.com/tayscb.html

You will also need a few other things, but I don't have any specific recommendations for these:
- Brush
- Alum Block

Optional
- Pre-Shave oil (optional but recommended imo - helps soften bristles and helps keep your face slippery)
- Shaving Bowl (Not needed with Taylors of Old Bond Street cream imo, but useful for some other Creams e.g. Proroso)

I love the Body Shop brush.

Alum block I don't use but I do have one.

Shaving Bowl, I much prefer one over the taylors tubs, you can get so much better lather. I just use a stainless one.

Pre-shave I like Proraso pre-shave cream. I also use Bulldog shave gel and then top that with lather.

I guess a few people will stop using Gillette now. :)

Interesting timing of the question ill agree but have been thinking about it for a while. Have used Gillette more recently ive tried to go stylish with a stubble trimmer but the wife has always prefered clean shaven and am thinking about going back. As I threw away most of my old cartidge stuff a few years back figured id try something different

I started with a Muhle R89 but didn't get on with it. Changed to a parker variable and find it suits me much better. Closer shave with less nicks, for me anyway.
