*** THE OFFICIAL MAX PAYNE 3 THREAD ***

It uses Steam achievements but only on Steam bought copies all other copies use RSC + TAGES Solidshield Wrapper as the online DRM with no achv system. I think it also uses the new Rockstar Social Club for MP & does not use Steam servers either (only to download the game to your HD or patch it) more & more publishers are creating their own DRM as they have more control & less piracy as Steamworks is a pretty poor DRM system unless its a Valve game.
Less Piracy :D

Yeah, no such thing as less piracy. Once ONE cracked copy appears it spreads like wildfire, so all DRM efforts are usually in vain... Need to be a hardcore pirate though to leech 35Gb - I cant believe tha size for a run of a mill linear shooter with dodgy physics and collision detection :p

Biggest thing usually taking up space in games is video files. I have been mighty irked with really really awful pixelated ingame vid, a decade ago, more like 15 years ago it was awesome, not far off same quality video in the past few years has been laughable. Was actually surprised when Diablo did a few super high quality video's throughout the game, but still very few video's total.

So won't be surprised to find it full of in game video.

Also 35gb hard core..... what century you living in. That's an hour download on infinity these days ;)

I wonder what the load times are like because I'll have to install the game on a HDD since SSD only has 30GB free :p

Unless I buy another 120Gb SSD dedicated to games only... Hmm I do like the sound of that!

If console ports are 20gb plus from now one. 120gb would run out pretty fast. Best would be to get an 250 SSD as an second instead.

Ah but once I've completed an SP game I rarely go back to it so uninstall it, my STEAM folder is very sparten at the moment with only L4D2 even though I have many games in my account!

I figure if I ever want to play one I can download it again, only takes an hour max :p

Yeah, the ingame video bloats size like nothing else... Why dont they just render it real time on game engine?...

As for broadband - I'm still in the early 2000s - 5Mb down/1mb up :p Infinity has p2p caps and I use a lot of sopcast and ice-hockey torrenting (its the best way being in UK), so still sticking with completely unlimited O2...

Sky FTTC.

I'm sick of developers forcing you to pre-purchase in order to receive the full game.

For example:

"Pill Bottle Item

This loadout item provides you with the capacity to carry extra painkillers - helping you survive longer amidst the killing fields of online multiplayer."

Imo any pre-purchase item should be merely superficial. Actual items that can give you an advantage/better experience should come with the full game, no matter when you order.

Rockstar can go f themselves

Sorry I'm not following, how is some silly item for MP mean you are not getting the full game?! As far as I'm concerned I couldn't careless that I'm getting it because I pre-ordered, I'm buying it for the SP, the MP is just a bonus afterwards.

Also how exactly do you know it isn't an unlock for those who didn't pre-order? It happens all the time, person who pre-orders gets an item/weapon from the start and then those that didn't unlock it after a level or two. Utlimately it means nothing, people really do need to get a grip and not get their panties in a twist over something so meaningless.

If you care so much, pre-order it.

On the flipside, those who pre-ordered in the first wave and got the Max Payne 1 & 2 bonus need not be disappointed, check your games list. ;)

Just a shame those who pre-order now and get LA Noire but already have Max Payne 1 & 2 don't get an extra copy to gift to someone who hasn't tried it. I know quite a few people who have pre-ordered the retail version but haven't played the first two and want to, so I could gift it to one of them.
